You know you’ve struck gold when you've found an author whose every book you experience becomes your newest favorite, and such is the case with Kristen Ashley. Every single book I've read, 21 to date, has become a keeper because the characters and their stories grab hold and just will not let go!

How is it possible that this happens time and time again, you ask?

Well, when I sit down to read a book and escape the crap that comes with real life, it's not the properly placed semi colon or comma tha...more

Okay!

I am at an utter loss how to express in writing what I think about The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley, the second book in her Fantasyland series. This book simply knocked me off my ass and once again I will repeat: KRISTEN ASHLEY IS A FREAKIN AMAZING AUTHOR !

Devastatingly beautiful! Those are the two words that come to my mind when I contemplate what I have just finished reading. Honestl...more

5.5 stars!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS BOOK!!!!

Kristen Ashley never ceases to amaze me with the beauty of the books she writes. Seriously, this story is just magical <3

Its a story about two people overcoming extreme cultural differences for the sake of love. There were parts of this book that were gruesome, brutal and sickening, parts that were swoony, heart-melting and utterly precious and ultimately it told a beautiful story about compromise, understanding and acceptance.

The story follows...more

WOW!!!

My Girl Circe had to go through a whole-lot-of shit to get to where she had to be, but MAN was it worth it!!!
... and My Dax Lahn became the Man we were all hoping he would be, and exactly how Kristen Ashley's Alpha's always are: Strong, domineering, controlling Assholes in the beginning.. and then they Get it and..BAM...SWEET-AWESOMENESS!!

What an INCREDIBLE, WONDERFUL ride this story took me on. Some of the barbaric things in the story I would have rather not...more

I did not finish this book due to personal reasons. Because there is no disclaimer at the beginning of the book, I feel the need to let potential readers know about some of the content within the story. If you are sensitive to rape and/or repeated scenes of forced seduction, which, in my opinion, is a glorified term for rape. You might want to read this book with caution.

April 18, 2012 Update: I am aware that certain readers have a profound dislike for Kristen Ashley and her work. I sincerely...more

- mut

5 GOLDEN SHIMMERING STARS

Well, well, well Kristen Ashley rocked it out yet again!!! This book was mind blowingly awesome!!!

The second book, Golden Dynasty in the fantasyland series was a fantastic addition. It was fast paced, crazy and incredible. The book starts out insanely!!! Circe is a stunningly beautiful golden haired, golden eyed girl who wakes up locked in a crate (A FREAKING CRATE :/). In this crate she is surrounded by a bunch of other beautiful women dressed in skimpy clothes that ar...more

Wow... I think I'm a bit gobsmacked from this book. There was just so much wrong with this story, yet I still ended up loving it! From culture-condoned rape to spousal abuse, Kristen Ashley provides a number of reasons to throw up your hands and say WTH?!?! At the same time, however, this book has KA's customary likable girly-girl heroine (complete with posse) and the extreme badass alpha hero who is both a huge jerk and super sweet - and you just can't help but get drawn into their incredibly e...more

Holy Cow! I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I don't even know how to begin to explain everything that i loved about it! The world that Kristen Ashley created here was crazy and brutal and barbaric and scarey but at the same time, so absolutely fantastic!

Circe is the heroine in this wild story. She goes to bed one night, safe and sound in her townhome, in Seattle, and wakes up to find herself in a corral with a bunch of women in some unknown world, where they're all speaking in a foreign language she's never...more

Kristen Ashley once again managed to captivate me. Set in the same parallel universe of Wildest Dreams, The Golden Dynasty is the story of a modern woman who wakes up among the Horde of Korwahk, right before the brutal wife hunt. Scared and confused, she befriends a couple of other lost souls minutes before running for her life. But her golden hair and eyes have captured the attention of the Dax, or king, of the Horde.

Lately it has become a habit of mine that if I’m very undecided as to what to pick next from my TBR, I pick a KA book, knowing beforehand that even if it’s just average, I will end with a smile on my face. They’re long ones, and if I can’t put them down, as it happened with this book, it becomes a problem because my native language is Spanish and I can’t read as fast in English as I’d like. This means most KA books take many hours out of my time but when one of them is great my reward doubles, a...more

ABSOLUTELY, UTTERLY SENSATIONAL. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE READ!

Just when I think I have read the best of Kristen Ashley she comes along with something completely different that just blows everything else out of the water. OMG, THIS BOOK WAS FUCKING PHENOMENAL!!! Not that I want to compare it to her other books, because this book is so different from any of the other series of hers that I have read, but it just shows the range that this woman has as an author, she’s absolutely amazing. LOVED IT!! Old Fashion Bodice Ripper Kristen Ashley Style.

There is so much I loved about The Golden Dynasty, but it isn't for everyone. It has rape, spousal abuse, brutal savagery. I just put it all in perspective of the timeframe it was written for and thought it was phenomenal. I am a sucker for the bodice ripper, but what made KA style bodice ripper so much better was the emotion and connection to the characters, so much more depth. I also love that she gives you a sneak peek o...more

F##k me Pink.... what a rollercoaster of a ride. Swore I would never read it - it is Fantasy - HATE Fantasy, hate vampires, hate time travel books - but it is KA so after I saw some of my GR buddies had given it great ratings decided to dive in - Thanks H.J. for the lend but I will probably end up getting my own copy. Freaking awesome - totally got into their world - it was so believable - Lahn - Hunt me down anytime Babe! Felt a bit for poor Pop at the end but as long as his girl was happy he w...more

"The Golden Dynasty" What can I say about this book? To sum it up, it is brutal but beautiful.

I knew before reading this book that I was going to love it. You ever get those feelings about certain books? And then you realize that you weren't wrong? Well that's what happened for me with this one. I could not put this book down..

The second novel in Kristen Ashley's Fantasyland series. Anyone looking for a nice safe PC (politically correct) novel should not read this one. It contains elements some readers will object to, including rape and violence. The contents didn't bother me too much maybe because I am such a fan of the 70s and 80s bodice rippers.

Circe wakes up one day to find herself in a cage and part of a bride hunt. She ends up being claimed by the King. Dax Lahn was a brutal barbarian king in a brutal and barba...more

I don't usually like heroes with long hair but Lahn's hero-groveling was cute so I'm going to let it go. The abuse of parentheses was annoying but whatever; my main complaint is Circe sounding like a teenager despite being thirty-five.

Now let's talk rape. I knew what was going to happen and yet I still felt a little squicky. Actually, a lot squicky. But I thought I'd end up hating the book and here I am giving it five stars.

This is definitely not for everybody. I liked the story but I think I'm done with my Kristen Ashley marathon. For now. Yikes.

Genre: fantasy erotic romance

Seattle babe first-person narrator is transported to an alternative universe where she is mated to the king of a brutal barbarian race. There is a crackalicious romance somewhere in here with some decent world-building, so I can see where it might appeal to some, but I couldnt get over the crude, unpolished, and repetitious writing style. Everything was f-ing this and f-ing that or golden queen or golden tigress or golden honey or golden cunt. As in "That’s it, my go...more

A-Freakin-Mazing!!

It's like there are just no words for how good this book and this series are. If you haven't read them you must! I thought Rock Chicks would be my favorite KA series but this is hands down better (my opinion of course) ... even the 3 pages I literally sobbed through were beautiful. She is a truly gifted author. This is a must read! I beg of you Kristen Ashley do not end this series anytime soon puhleaaaaaaaase!!!!

“Circe,” he called and my eyes slid back. Then he shared gently, “There has been only one moment in my life when I have been happier than I am in this one and that was sharing the beauty your magic created while you told me you loved me.”

Drumroll to my first five star read of the year! And it was fucking fantastic! This would be my second Kristen Ashley book and I must say my first experience with her wasn't very good, but I had stumbled upon this book in the Goodreads Listotopia Lists and the...more

September 2012 Update

5 months later and I think I got my thoughts on this one sorted. LOL

What to say to an author? One who makes you fall for a hero who does all of the following:

* says "bow to your king" while he is pounding away at the heroine
* makes it very difficult to escape him and has actions that border along stalkerific
* is dangerously aggressive, which means the heroine experiences some KRAZY and initially unforgivable sh*T!

This is what you say: "Mrs. Ashley,...more

I was up till 1:00 am to finish this book. Oh my god, I loved this book. I know i say the same thing about every KA book, but she is awesome!! This one again took me away to another world. I had issues with the "wife hunt" thing and Lahn would piss me off sometime, but overall he rocked! I cannot express how much i enjoyed this book. I want to see how it ended, but i also didn't want it to end.....

I will read this again sometime.

WOW! KA UN-FREAKING-PLUGGED! What a wild crazy ride!! I loved it! No holding back! Love it when an author lets go from what "the grandma's" want in their books. I complain constantly about authors not letting their imagination go and we end up with boring cookie cutter books. This is why I freaking LOVE you KA! YOU GO GIRL! I'm so impressed.....I think I might.... cry. Shit. Damn. I'm holding my martini glass in my hand and I'm raising it for you Kristen! Cheers, Honey! LET THAT CRAZY FUCKED UP...more

What can I say? Despite the hero being utterly despicable at times, rape and violence and a barbaric world, I ended up falling in love with this book and its hero. The romance and setting reminded me heavily of Khal Drogo and Daenerys from 'Game of Thrones', which isn't a bad thing at all, as I'm a great fan of those two.
Circe, our heroine, goes to bed in modern day Seattle and wakes up in a pen in a vastly different world, just in time to take part in the wife hunt of a barbaric warrior tribe....more

Oh my gosh, well reading this book just had me picturing Khal Drogo and Deny from Games of Thrones, well up until a point. Atleast this one has a happy ending. But Dax Lahn is no hero, this book certainly does not start out well for Circe. And if Rape is not something you can even think about let alone read about then don't read this book.
However for some reason I forgave Lahn, its his world, his upbringing and god help me I love him.
Every brutish, murdering ,pillaging, barbaric act this man pull...more

I enjoyed this book but maybe because I loved the Game of Thrones character Khal Drogo and his Dothraki horde so much. There were a lot of similarities with the Lahn character and Drogo, that's not bad. It's hard to find a good barbarian story out there and this was a decent one.

It was an easy read except for the translation sentences where you had to jump back and forth within the text to understand what some of the characters are saying.

Super cheesy but good characters and a decent storyline....more

would give this a hundred stars if possible! It was that good!

Anyways, I just have to say WWWWWOOOOOOWWWWW! I cannot believe how awesomely fantastic that book I just read was! I am floored! Ms. Ashley, I am now and forever will be a fan! I could never say that I LOVED your work, but now I can honestly say I will read every piece of fantasy romance you have and more! You have won me over completely! “I could not dream a better you.”

Oh my God.

Oh… my… God.

Did he just say that?

I stared into his warm eyes.

He just said that.

And that was so sweet, so unexpected but so welcome, my breath arrested and all I could do was continue staring at him.

He wasn’t done. “A better wife, a better queen. Not even in a dream could I create better than you.”
