I received this book to review for the ReadIt&Reap program in the ShutUp&Read group. Thanks to the mods and the author for providing this book for us to read.

Every time I start a new book/series that involves vampires I worry that I'm about to waste time reading the same story I've read so many times before. I love vampire stories, but they need to bring something fresh to the table, and be somewhat original for me to actually enjoy them. This book did that.

The first few pages of this b...more

“I’m completely crazy about you, Camille.” He moved in closer, his eyes assessed my reaction. “―I know there are details you didn’t want to mention before ... things about the guy you left back in Seattle, and your mom. But I want you to know whatever it is you’re still running from, you don‘t have to run from it anymore. You can talk to me. And I would never, ever, hurt you.”

3.5 out of 5! I’d wanted to read Amaranth for a while so I was thrilled when Rachael Wade gave me a copy to review. Firs...more

I thought I'd try something different for this review - a reading diary. I'll also add a few overall thoughts at the end.

Initial Thoughts on Cover;
I absolutely LOVE the cover. The colors & the text make it simple yet striking. A beautiful cover makes you want to read the book. Oh, and purple and blue are my favorite colors!

Initial Thoughts on Summary;
Geez. Anything on vamps means I'm game.

Amaranth is the first book in The Resistance Trilogy and Rachael Wade's début novel. What a way to kick start the trilogy, I was hooked from the first chapter. This is so far away from your typical vampire stories. Rachael Wade puts together an exciting new story which is extremely well written, while tackling serious issues like emotional and physical abuse, which she handles superbly.

The story follows Camille Hart, as she tries to escape and move on from the physical and emotional abuse she ha...more

First and foremost, congrats to the book’s designer, it’s beautiful and eye-catching…(clap..clap…:D)

The storyline is interesting… especially Gavin’s middle name, Deveraux.. I love French… the first setting of the book too is breathtaking… where else would someone plot a romance story…---Paris…:D and of course Louisiana become vibrant and alive with the author’s description.

Another thing that made me curious, as to why the boys always bring them back be...more

I read this for reviewing purposes, but found myself pulled in and really enjoyed it. Camille is a wonderful character, who is smart yet fearful. She is pulled in by Gavin, and to my dismay, they completely fall for each other in just a couple of days. As another reviewer said, I also almost stopped reading right then. But I kept going and found the story to really develop and come to life. I really like Camille, and still want to know more about her.
The story is short, which can be good, but it...more

Amaranth is the debut novel of author Rachel Wade and the first book of The Resistance trilogy. This seriously blew my mind away. I wasn’t expecting to like it at all. I read the description and was expecting some corny vampire story, but boy was I wrong. This book is so different from any other vampire stories I’ve read. The vampires in this story actually have a purpose in which they live for. This book covered a lot of...more

Overview

Amaranth (The Resistance Trilogy #1)

Camille has finally taken a step toward breaking away from her abusive relationship and dysfunctional family. A trip to Paris, where she has always longed to go, research for a book she longs to write (but has not even told her best about), and a "special" coat she spent way too much on, but it makes her feel happy and in control. It's here in Paris that she has a chance encounter with Gavin Devereaux. He somehow can tell she's searching for something...more

I really and truly loved this book! It was so different from what I usually read in the fantasy genre.

I liked the main character Camille Hart. She was insecure and vulnerable through most of the book which wasn’t a bad thing. The main reason being that Camille was a victim in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Andrew; she is trying to find herself through all the chaos. I also enjoyed the Side characters a little more to tell the truth especially Camille’s best friend Audrey. She is what...more

Really enjoyed this novel. I was in the mood for a light vampire romance and this hit the spot perfectly. I really liked how 'humanish' the vamps were in this one - not so many restrictions as usual. The premise was on making peace/living peacefully among humans sans eating/killing, but still adventurous enough as the idea was to outrule the evil Vamp Queen who promoted the evil vampire behaviors.
I liked the characters well enough, though the main character was a little 'too' courageous at time...more

I loved this book! Its your classic paranormal romance.
Camille is 21 and went off to Paris to escape, if only for a while, her abusive relationship with her now ex-boyfriend. While there she walks, literally, into Gavin. And he is gorgeous! Two years later life is as normal. While definitely getting away from her ex, states away, she found herself yet again in the break up stage from another abusive relationship. Trying to avoid Andrew, the almost ex, she runs into Gavin at the book store she w...more

Finally I can finish reading Amaranth and a bit embrassed because it was too long to read this ebook but certainly I can not wait for reading the second book and hope it will be published soonest.
Amaranth is a story a bout a girl named Camille hart who want to free herself from the mess she left back home so she decided to travel to Paris and there he met with a man named Gavin Devereaux, A tall, slender guy.

However Camille must return to her country and she feel very surprise when one day Gavin...more

3.5 Stars

Let me just say how much I appreciate the above quote, being an introvert myself I found it very refreshing that someone else understands that enjoying time alone does not make you a loner.

So of course after reading that quote I felt a strong connection to the main character, Camille has had a troubled past and is still having a pretty rough life. She had the unfortunate luck to date abusive men. She sets out to have a holiday in Paris to clear her he...more

I will be honest, I was pretty skeptical at first. I haven’t had much luck lately with Indie authored books. But, when I found out that Rachael was giving away copies of the book in e-book form to bloggers, I couldn’t resist the indulgence. The following is my review of Amaranth by Rachael Wade, the first installment in the Resistance Trilogy.

Rachael Wade captured me from the start with the wonderful dialog and chemistry of the two main characters of this book, Gavin & Camille. After the first chapter, I was very excited to experience the development of their relationship. I was disappointed to find out they didn’t have any other contact or, it seemed, not even any other thoughts of each other for two years after their first meeting. Then, when they run into each other again and make a date, we are only allowed a short glimpse of...more

The story starts off in beautiful Paris where Camille meets Gavin for the first time. Their first meeting is sweet and cute but much too short.

Camille returns tot he U.S. and moves to Louisiana to start a new life. Gavin comes back into her life by chance and a very sweet contemporary romance seems to be taking place.

Out of nowhere --- the sweet contemporary romance turns into a gritty paranormal romance. We soon discover some of Camille's very good friends are vampires. And it seems they a...more

Are journey starts with Camille Hart and her struggle to leave behind an abusive past and dysfunctional family to start anew in Louisiana. Camille’s character she so easy to relate to. So many woman go through what Camille goes through on a daily basis (of course minus the supernatural aspects) and you can’t help but feel the pain and fears that she faces. Camille is very passionate and loving to a fault because when she falls she falls full force which is her weakness, but she is stronger than...more

My review:
Drawn in hopelessly by the already beautiful cover of this soon-to-be-released book, I knew the story would be something that would catch my attention and it did indeed ;) After seeing a lot of people on blogs around me reading and reviewing this kindle version novel with great reviews, I was over the moon when I got in touch with Rachael and she generously provided me with the PDF to this as well as offering her time for an interview and a giveaway! I couldn’t believe it, and with tha...more

3.5 out of 4 stars

I enjoyed this book. If I say that with a slight note of surprise, it's because that, indeed, I was pleasantly surprised.

It's a story of vampire meets girl and they both fall in love, and they both face challenges to be together. With so much out there with the same type of plot, it is really difficult not to make comparisons.

This book was shorter that I thought it would be....more

Camille has pretty bad taste in men. She fled her Seattle home for a Paris vacation, in order to escape an abusive boyfriend. And she followed him up with another winner once she moved to Louisiana. She is trying to turn her life around and break ties with Jerk #2 when Gavin shows up. He is a charming guy she met during that trip to Paris and she feels an undeniable attraction to him that seems to be mutual.

But there is much more to Gavin than meets the eye. He's actually a vampire, though it ta...more

This book is not for me. The only reason I tried to read was because it was free on Kindle. Amaranth is filled with line after line of overused cliches. The characters are either annoying, unbelievable, or underdeveloped. I couldn't care less about any of them. The way some of them reacted to certain circumstances was completely ridiculous. Not to mention the insta-love. There were just too many things about this book that I couldn't stand, and if I try to get through them all then I'll be writi...more

The Resistance Trilogy #1

Wow is my first and continued reaction. I literally could not put this book down, it is so intense, so endearing, so inspiring of empathy. What the protagonist Camille endures-and her exquisite talent at self-analysis-is riveting. Absolutely impossible to break away from this book. Without need for a spoiler, I can express this: Camille has a major crack in the foundation of her psyche. For whatever reasons, her inner strength and her intuition don’t seem to match up. Wh...more

It was very Twilight-esque which made it for a boring read at first. And the main character didn't seem like her age, I thought she was much younger when I first started reading the book. Overall it was an enjoyable read that got more interesting near the end. There's a lot going on in the book and the reader is only given minimal information. At times the dialogue seems a bit forced and awkward but I look forward to reading the rest of this series because the ending is a real cliff hanger. I th...more

well this book was ok.....
I liked the story line so that is why i give it two stars.. it was interesting how vampires got to get their curse removed and live in Amaranth and how they had a queen.
So now i ran out of good things to say about this book. I am the kind of reader who likes her characters to be likable... if they dont then I will not enjoy the book.. this was the case. I got annoyed with Camille and I thought she was selfish and irration and lacked the minimum amount of logic!! this wa...more

I received this book to review for the Read It & Reap program in the Shut Up & Read group here on goodreads.

This is the first book in the Resistance trilogy, and it was a great way to kick it off. Camille Hart is fleeing an abusive relationship back home in Seattle by taking a vacation to Paris. While there, she literally bumps into charming Gavin. They share a brief conversation/walk, and then go their separate ways.

I love a good vampire story and Amaranth didn’t disappoint. It gave a fresh new twist on a time old tale of love, death, and ever after. I was captured by the grace of the opening chapters in Paris where we find our young heroine reinventing herself, falling for the beauty of Paris and of a handsome gentleman who stumbles across her literally in the café.

Her return to the states was a bit disjointed for me. The character development was good and I enjoyed the lovely description Louisiana, howev...more
