Shirlene Dalton recent widow and compulsive spender, has been evicted from her home, unable to meet the repayments. Having been looked after as a child by her brother and then later by her husband, Shirlene is desperate to prove to herself, her friends and the folks of Bramble, Texas that she is no longer the self-absorbed gold-digger with a tendency towards addiction, that everyone accepts and loves. Hiding out in the trailer home of her youth, Shirlene meets up with four orphans on the run and...more

Can we get another yeehaw, cowboy, please?! Oh my. This one was just a fantastic as RC Ryan's book, and another one that I'm adding to my Western bookshelf. Again, Ms. Lane's work is incredible, filled with complex and intriguing characters, and the plot will sweep you off your feet and land you in the heart of Texas. I'm gonna warn you though.....if you read this, hand on to your boots, your hat, your seat-basically, anything you can grab onto-for Bubba and Shirlene will take you on a whirlwind...more

Catch Me a Cowboy is book three in the A Deep in the Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane, and I have to say it is my favorite so far. This one made me laugh, cry, and touched my heart in a way that you want from a good book. Like the other two the people in this book come alive. You feel like you know them.

Shirlene Dalton had it all until her much older husband died suddenly of a heart attack. Her world quickly is falling apart. She did so much retail ther...more

My Review:
I love Katie's little town of Bramble. Seriously, I laugh out loud constantly while reading these books and this one with Bubba's (aka: Billy) exploits had me rolling! (By the way, I am from West Texas and it should be noted that we really aren't this bad of hicks....I swear!)

This book features Shirlene. I'll admit, she hasn't been my favorite character of the series, but I bawled my eyes out when her husband died in book #2. In this book, we see a very different Shirlene than the ric...more
Simplemente fantástico. Un libro sencillo, sin grandes aspiraciones que se lee con una sonrisa en la boca. Personajes entrañables y un pueblo majareta, que me ha hecho reir continuamente.
El que más me ha gustado de la serie.

Hot hillbilly cowboy dumber than rocks but really has a secret identity? Check.
Sassy gold digging widow with a heart of gold? Check.
Four orphans camping out at said gold digging widow's old digs? Check.
Town full of good ol' folks who cain't seem to keep their mouth shut from gossiping about anyone and everyone even though it's probably not true? Check.

Welcome to Bramble, Texas.

Shirlene Dalton has been kicked out of her home due...more
This is book 3 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas Series. I've listened to all three books and recommend all of them. Listening to the books in order is preferable (so you can get to know the crazy people of Bramble, TX) but not necessary. This is a story about picking up the pieces of your life and starting over. It's about appreciating family and friends and realizing that truly the best things in life are free.

Although this story is very fun, there are parts that are very sad and I cried my e...more

Looking for a fun crazy kind of story?

Shirlene went from rags to riches until her husband passes and leaves her penniless; now back on the other side of the tracks she digs down to her inner strength relying on her quirky humor and the sexy hick next door. And, she has a piglet pet, Sherman.

Bubba is Billy & he and his brothers are back in town to right a wrong in an age old family feud, only the old codger died and left his sexy widow to fend for herself. Not intending to care about Shirlen...more

Book #3 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas Series

Shirlene Dalton has recently lost her husband. Now after finding out that his business was failing, she's pretty much broke & her mansion is in foreclosure. But Shirlene isn't one to curl up in a ball & cry over her problems. She goes back to her childhood trail park home after she's locked out of the mansion. And discovers there are 4 homeless runaway children living there after one of them tries to scare her away with a chainsaw. One thin...more
I'm really enjoying this series and all the crazy characters that live in the small Texas town where each book takes place. Each book stands alone but I recommend reading them in order as the characters show up book to book. This is book 3 about Shirlene Dalton who finds herself broke after the death of her wealthy older husband. She ends up living back in the rundown trailer where she grew up, which also is home to four runaway orphans who have been hiding out there. Next door lives a hot cowbo...more

Shirlene Dalton had it all. She was married to the richest guy in Bramble, TX and spent money like there was no tomorrow. But when he up and dies suddenly with his company on the verge of bankruptcy which also means the town is in jeopardy, Shirlene keeps on spending to get over her grief and pays no attention that she has no way of paying off loans and ignores warning's from the bank until she is evicted from her mansion. Shirlene didn’t start off in life with a silver spoon in her mouth. She g...more

How hard is it to dust off the demons from the past anyway?

Shirlene was a grieving widow who was offered help but she couldn't stop to get it she was busy shoe shopping. I laughed so much reading this book. I had tears in my eyes. I read the book in two days, because I could not put it down.

Shirlene Dalton was a likeable character from the beginning in Going Cowboy Crazy. A part of me thought she was a little shallow but I never fully realized that she was a true survivor, no matter what.
I read that Ms. Lane pictured Mayberry a little when she thought of Bramble, Texas. I’m not old enough to actually remember the s...more

(review originally posted on blog in April) I finished Catch Me a Cowboy by Katie Lane the other day. It's the 3rd book in the series and definitely did not disappoint. I wasn't sure how I'd like it without the main characters from the 2 other books being more front and center, but Billy (Bubba) Wilkes and Shirlene Dalton were definitely great leads.

Not only did poor Shirlene lose her husband but due to some bad financial management, she loses her house as well. Now, part of me didn't feel sorr...more
Review from Backchatting Books

This is probably my favourite in this series because Shirlene is such a genuine and generous creature. Life seemed to be easy for her in the first two books as her wealthy husband indulged her every whim. At the end of the last novel, "Make Mine a Bad Boy", he passed away though and the company he worked for went bust. Shirlene is kicked out of her beautiful mansion and with no other options, moves into a tacky trailer on the wrong side of the tracks. Her redneck ne...more

Catch Me A Cowboy is the 3rd book in the Deep In The Heart of Texas series by Katie Lane. I honestly didn’t think I could enjoy a book in this series more than the last one, but I was wrong. I loved, loved, loved it!

Shirlene Dalton grew up rough. She escaped it all when she married a very wealthy, older man. Most people assume she married Lyle for money and many would be surprised to find out she loved him. Now, he’s died of a heart attack and she’s all alone and back to square one. She’s been s...more
Shirlene Dalton has it all and than her husband ups and dies on her. She loses everything. She doesn't want the people in town to know. She ends up moving into the run down trailer she grew up. She finds some homeless kids living in her trailer and takes them under wing. Shirlene always wanted to have a baby but never did. Living next door is Billy Wilkes who is trying to wipe the town of Bramble off of the map. Can Shirlene stop him? Sparks fly between the two of them and will Shirlene learn hi...more

A fun book filled with zany characters that reminded me slightly of Carl Hiassan's early stories. In other words if you don't take it too seriously you will find it humorous. There was good development of the main characters and in the end left you happy that this couple overcame the obstacles and made it work together. This is my first book in the series but I will definitely be reading the sequels and probably the first couple of books too.
Another 5 star for Katie Lane.

Hilarity continues in the 3rd book about the Texas town of crazy and wonderful people. I feel in love with them all in book one of this series and I wish it really existed because the people are funny, caring and I know I said it already, but crazy.

I would love to go to the diner and sit and talk with them all and watch the chaos swirl around.

This book picks up with the story of a group of kids who have escaped from an abusive foster family, a rich hunky cowboy who...more
I couldn’t stop laughing at some of the passages in Catch Me a Cowboy! Katie Lane’s heroine Shirlene is full of spunk and attitude, even with a heart softer than a marshmallow. She’s widowed, then turned out of her mansion so she returns to the trailer she grew up in – and finds new “tenants” in it.

Trying to keep up appearances isn’t easy, but she sure tries her darnedest – and the tenants and her neighbor really don’t know what to make of her, never mind figuring out how to get rid of her. They...more
This third book is Shirlene's story, the twins' best friend. Shirlene had a strong supporting role in the first two books, and with a tragedy that happened to her in the second book, she deserves, I believe, a happy ending.

As usual, I like the promotion of familial relationships, despite the NIL blood relations.

And as with any other series, it's all happy endings, which leaves you wanting more.... And more.

I completely enjoyed this book. The third in this series, we meet back up with Shirlene Dalton. Her wealthy husband has passed away leaving her in a bit of a mess...mostly of her own making from her spending habits. She now is back where she grew up, evicted from her mansion and in a run down trailer. The trailer just happens to be inhabited by 4 kids and the neighbor is the biggest redneck ever, Bubba.
I loved that the old characters were still around and their families had grown! Shirlene is a...more
Jo (My House of Books)
Ms. Lane picks up directly where she left off in Bramble, Texas, with Catch Me a Cowboy. Shirlene Dalton rose high from her trailer-park childhood only to fall back to it when her husband unexpectedly dies and his company is threatened by creditors. William Cates, known as Bubba Wilkes by the townspeople, came to Bramble with revenge on his mind. He plans the town's demise by buying Dalton Oil, but living next to Shirlene's trailer he sees a different side to the woman he calls a gold digger.

Mary (BookHounds)
This is a very wonderful and humorous read about Branble, Texas filled with characters that are so believably wacky that they are believable. Shirlene has spunk and the need to survive which will make you proud of her. I want a Bubba for my own since he is just so darn hunky and down to earth. As with any small town, there are the typical types like the ancient Moses, who knows everything that is happening much like my neighbor growing up but appears to be asleep. Don't let an...more

Ugh!!! I hate dead spouse themes. Such a shame because this sounded good. Seriously, couldn't the author think of a better plot to get the h & H living next door of one another without somebody having to die?
I was surprised by this book. I didn’t expect to like Shirlene as much as I did, although if the whole book had been the Shirlene that was at the start of the book it would have gotten old fast. I also really liked how Shirlene didn’t let her situation get her down, in some ways her actions were realistic, yet they fit her. I loved how Shirlene rambled around town with the pig and how she took to the kids even though they scared her. The town, like normal put in their two cents. I loved the end...more

I am so torn about this book! I won it, so I wanted to read and review it right away. It started very slow for me. I wasn't getting enough background information at the beginning, which I guess is because this is actually the third book in the series - something I did not realize until I looked up the author.

It wasn't a book that I was dying to get back into and yet, by the end, I couldn't put it down. I actually teared up during the climactic scene in town, but the beginning really left a bad...more

Katie Lane's interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a '65 mustang-okay, so maybe it wasn't romance as much as raging teenage hormones. Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail. Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the owner of that mustang and would love...more
