My former geology professor gave me this book when I was considering majoring in geology. Finley was an amazing man and this is the best book you could ever read if you want to know what truly shaped the world that exists beneath your feet right here in Illinois.
Wow. An incredible book! Wiggers talks knowledgeably with humor about the geology of Illinois. Main locales are state parks (hence, visitable!) and the wonders he describes make me desire very much to see them! Articles cover Chicago, Galena, Cairo, oil country, faults, and glaciation; sinkholes, karsts, ancient aquifers, Pangaea, and plate tectonics. Truly a masterpiece! One to be read and re-read!
