I had no idea what to expect, but a friend of mine recently reviewed this on her blog and recommended it to me. She does love her indie authors, but she was right about this one.
TORRODIL is basically about a girl called Anna Gray who discovers she's a daeva (elemental witch) and has to cross the world of Torrodil to find the same witches who've got her power. Okay, the whole "teenager discovers they've got a magical power" premise has been done to death but Geraghty made it feel new, mainly bec...more

My one comment on this book:
The writing style in this book is bizarre. The story is interesting, the characters are good, the world-building is excellent, the dialogue is fun, and even the spelling is (mostly) fine, but the grammar and sentence structure is appalling. There are sentence fragments everywhere -- and not in the usual "oh, this is just a casual narrative voice" but more like "oh dear, where was the editor?" Verb tenses -- and narrative voice -- change frequently and without warning,...more

An exciting story of growth and learning to make the best of what you are given, Torrodil is a magnificent book with memorable characters and is a spellbinding new world for readers to get lost in. The descriptive imagery and lyrical sentences made for a highly captivating read. The most alluring part of the book was the characters strong need for adventure. This is because most of us at one point or another long for some adventure in our lives and because of this it is easier to relate to the f...more
This is one of the less than ten books I couldn’t finish in my life, and I read a lot. It might be the most badly written book I have ever attempted to read. I suppose Geraghty is trying for original and playful language, but his choice of words repeatedly made me frown and shake my head in disgust. The dialogues sound like it’s from a bad sitcom, where every line is supposed to be a joke. You can almost hear the canned laughter. His writing doesn’t hang together. I had to reread pages to figure...more
After killing a man with lightning, Anna embarks on a journey through dangerous territory and harsh terrains to find the people who tried to collect her as a baby. The Deava consist of powerful women who hold similar powers to Anna. I think the synopsis does a better job then I could at summarising all the different elements incorporated in the novel, I'll try no more.

This was a pretty good book I got for free from Amozon. Thanks Amozon. It is the story of Anna and her unnatural abilities, that she doesn't really understand. It follows her through a vast journey to find the answers she thinks can be found with finding a group of women. I won't spoil the story by telling anymore than that. I found it to be a quick read and found it hard to put down at times.
