This book is the fourth (4th) installment of “the Real Duchesses of London” series by Lavinia Kent. In it she relates the tumultuous tale of Elizabeth, the Countess of Westhampton, and her husband William, the Earl of Westhampton. On their wedding night William left his young bride alone at home with no suitable explanation and set off on a trip to travel the world. Elizabeth survived the taunts and whispers of London society, including and especially the cruel sketches drawn by the mysterious a ...more
Episode 4: How to Succeed in Marriage without Really Trying

In the last installment of The Real Duchesses of London, Elizabeth, Countess of Westhampton, is rattled when her husband, William, finally returns home after deserting her days after their marriage by just appearing at a ball out of the blue. Elizabeth has had to deal with backlash that one would receive after such a public desertion and has developed a very thick, tough skin. The ton of London has assumed that she could not satisfy her
This was a good book how ever I do wish the author would have done more to make it more interesting. I look forward to reading more of this author's work.

Elizabeth, the Countess of Westhampton, has found her husband. Unfortunately, she’d have preferred it if he’d stayed lost! "Elizabeth the Enchantress" is the fourth novella in Lavinia Kent’s Real Duchesses of London ebook series from Avon Impulse.

Elizabeth was abandoned by her husband William Beckonridge, the Earl of Westhampton, shortly after he rescued her from the aging swarm of suitors her uncle had gathered and married her. Once she saw him as her Prince Charming, but after he left her for four years to travel the Americas, Elizabeth is determined never to need or trust him again. William is enchanted with the

Honestly, who comes up with these titles??? Elizabeth is no enchantress. What she is, is less wishy-washy than her peers. When her husband 'rescues' her from an unhappy home, marries her, and then immediately leaves on a trip that he has always dreamed of going, she is subjected to a lot of ridicule. Men make salacious comments and offer to bring her up to speed because it is assumed that her husband wouldn't have left if he had been completely satisfied. She takes them on with attitude and coun ...more
This is part of an ongoing series, but Elizabeth, the Enchantress is my introduction to the "Real Duchesses of London" series.

It's a nice, light, easy read, with simple plot twists to keep things interesting, warmth, love and some darn nice sexy sex.

The character development is better than you normally get in a novella, but we don't get true in-depth understanding.

I do have a issue with the use of American spelling, as someone who spells predominately using British English I find it quite jar

A series of prints depicting Elizabeth and her longtime gone husband now recently returned husband, William, in opposing styles. There is a print Elizabeth favors -- William on his knees before her, seeming to beg for her attention and/or forgiveness -- and a second print which purports her as the beggar. We learn a little bit about what happened between Elizabeth and William and why he left London so quickly after their marriage.

This reformation of the "bad girl" fell a little flat in my opini
You may have heard me mention before that while I like the novellas I've read lately, I always have this feeling that if it was a full-length novel, it would be better. Well, maybe I was just not reading the right novella! This one didn't feel like it lacked depth at all!

There were some real problems between Elizabeth and William and I loved that! I mean, CONFLICT! YAY! I teared up a couple of times and it was wonderful!

The thing is with novellas, you HAVE to get sucked into the story right away
There is one more book in the series- I will likely try to read it but I'm probably not going to search out her other books.
Another one where the husband returns but by this book I was a bit over Elizabeth. She is MEAN. And what happens with Annie?

I live in Washington, DC with my husband, kids, two cats and a changing menagerie of other small beasts.

I worked in both the arts and in the business world before giving into my love of story telling after the birth of my oldest -- although it wasn't until after the birth of my youngest when I suddenly had full-time childcare that it all came together for me.

I love discussing books -- almost any b
