REBELLION is the turning point in the great interstellar war between all living creatures and the machines. Star Force is on the side of the machines—but for how long?

In the third book of the Star Force series, Kyle Riggs learns just what kind of war Earth is caught up in. At the mercy of the Macros, his marines fight against new alien races, big and small. They battle the...more

I would say more of the same with this book compared to the other 2 in the series, but that wouldn't be quite true. In my "review" of Extinction, book 2, I mentioned that the characters were quite static and that there wasn't much in the way of discussions on morality, etc. There's definitely much more of that in this book, though those types of thoughts don't stop Colonel Riggs from doing the things he feels he needs to do.

To me, this was definitely a stronger book than Extinction, and like Swa...more

This is the 3rd book in the series and it doesn't stop for a breather. Colonel Kyle Riggs and his Star Force are now fighting for the Macros and they're not happy doing it. But, if they want to live, Colonel Riggs and his Marines had better fight very, very well. After a quick trip through a "star gate" and then to a planet completely devoid of human life. In fact, the predominate life form here are worms. Small, large, big, and very, very big worms that are highly intelligent and armed! It's Ri...more

It's like eating steak with a clogged nostril. Annoying as Hell but not so much you stop.

It's tough to describe my feelings about this author. His prose is the opposite of economical. He writes like a 10th grader. Too many damn words man!

However, the story is a damn fun one. The concept is just cool.

So I'm of two minds:

1. Every time I start one of Larson's books, I have to fight through the terrible prose for several pages.
2. I eventually get sucked in anyway and enjoy it on the whole.

So I...more

Marvin walking toward us. His four wiry legs churned. His camera panned and zoomed in on Sarin. “What is that?” Sarin asked. “That’s my dog, Marvin,” I said, “I built him, sort of…actually, he pretty much built himself.”

Rebellion is better balanced than the previous two books in the series, there's an enjoyable blend of action, survival, intrigue, alien politics and comic relief provided by Marvin. The ethical conundrum the protagonist finds himself in is also a nice touch. A solid improvement...more

Yet another volume in the Star Force series. I'm kept interested because of the author's great pacing, but there isn't a lot of real development here; the stakes are continually upped but you can only get away with that for so long.

Again, it's a worthwhile series for action Sci-Fi buffs. I think you could make a really interesting board game based on the technology and tactics this series.

Rebellion is the third in the series, and it's getting better and better! This is a sci-fi novel with humor, and easy read with a good story, save the Earth, kill the Macro's (machines), control Marvin (the egosentric and weird brain box), keep your moral and the girl. Yep! Larson did it again, and I have already bought the fourth one in the series - Conquest :-)

Pretty decent, some of the initial intrigue from the first book is gone now and it's basically just an action movie novel. It's still fun though, I haven't been dissuaded from finishing the series.

3.5 stars. The series is getting better - this book was the best so far. However, the main characters remain sadly two dimensional and dialogue seems to take a backseat to battles.
Mike Scalora
Good time killing book but not great. Characters are a bit too one dimensional and the smart people don't think of a lot of obvious solutions. The author puts in enough twists to keep it entertaining but not very memorable.

Good fun space combat reading. The whole series has been fun, but I really enjoyed this book. I think Marvin the crazy robot is a great addition to the crew.
Dennis Daniels
Pretty decent military sci-fi. Just enough character development to keep the vector of conflict and humanity interesting.
Brad Smith
Not as "fun" as first two. But still very strong and answers a lot of needed questions.
Daniel Lemire
Really enjoyable. Good light reading for those who enjoy military scifi.
Sean
full of holes...but still enjoyable.
Will
Better than Book 2.
Vince Miller
Awesome series

Better than book 2 but not as good as book 1. Still, enough meat to bring me back for book 4 after a break.

The series is good, but growing stagnate and predictable. That is pretty sad because conceptually it is brilliant. But tired.
Paul
A worthy entry in the Star Force series.
