The historical side of it was extremely interesting. I love the detail, and interweaving the economy, social standards, and small town lifestyles of the time period, as well as mixing in facts of known historical figures of the time. Very interesting storyline. This is why I did not rate this as 2 stars.

I was expecting historical fiction not two people lusting after each other. There are historical aspects to it, but there was a lot of sexual scenes. I know it was down in the late 1800s but I don't think it was done like in today's society. It would have been better if that romance was suttle not the main attraction of the story.

I just couldn't get into this. Writing was too ....I dunno...high school? Just couldn't get the feel that the characters were real.
