The historical side of it was extremely interesting. I love the detail, and interweaving the economy, social standards, and small town lifestyles of the time period, as well as mixing in facts of known historical figures of the time. I was expecting historical fiction not two people lusting after each other. There are historical aspects to it, but there was a lot of sexual scenes. I know it was down in the late 1800s but I don't think it was done like in today's society. It would have been better if that romance was suttle not the main attraction of the story.

I just couldn't get into this. Writing was too ....I dunno...high school? Just couldn't get the feel that the characters were real.
