The subject is worthwhile, and was certainly handled with both compassion and directness. My criticism may seem petty, in light of the topic. However, I must say that the presentation of the text, which occupies lots of space and crowds the page margins, is somewhat off-putting. Reading this book aloud will be challenging because of the line length and text placement. The illustrations are very detailed, and have a certain richness of texture. I chose to read this book to my students for some objectives I was going to teach, the story has several situations to draw conclusions about the characters' feelings, also about cause and effect and character traits. The students enjoyed this book a lot, they couldn't wait to know what was going to happen to the dog. In the end is not as sad as the title might sound and it shows a good example of good friendship.
