OI really, really liked this story...a lot. It was so real life, so relatable, so believable in most aspects. Jason and David are RCMP officers and now I want to go to Canada and check these hotties out.

David is a divorced father with 3 small kids. Jason is his partner at work. David is straight and Jason is openly gay with friends and family but not at work. You know what I absolutely loved about this story and most M/M that I read? It has a way of pulling your heart strings and making you so emotionally invested with the characters that you are hanging on every word.

Sometimes It’s Fate is a wonderful treasure among M/M erotic stories. It is a story about ‘real’ people in actual life issues. Yes, it’s a HEA story (why read one that’s not? Seriously.) but there are some very hard hitting issues that these two men have to deal with, abandonment of children, coming out to self much less others, possible HIV issues (see Interview for excerpt that references this), etc.

Sometimes It's Fate really sets itself apart from many of the m/m books on the market today through it's extremely realistic progression of friends to lovers within the gay for you subgenre along with the emotional affects of a possible HIV diagnosis on a committed relationship. Each emotion tugged the reader further into the story and you soon became fully enmeshed in the lives of new couple Jason and David.

Each emotion tugged the reader further into the story and you soon became fully enmeshed in the lives of new couple Jason and David.

Jason's always known he was gay and while he doesn't flaunt it he doesn't make it public knowledge for fear of having to deal with homophobia in a small town. He and David have been extremely close for years with David helping him through a particularly emotional time. David's divorced with kids though and is greatly confused about the increasingly intense romantic feelings he's having when around Jason. Their progression of friends to lovers felt realistic with its slow transition that allowed for a lot of steamy sexual tension that ultimately resulted in an extremely satisfying first time scene that was both sweet and sexy. David's hesitation was gone quite quickly and their transition to outright couple seemed to happen before you could blink. The sexual interludes started out slowly building in intensity and were nicely spaced throughout the story with Jason definitely being the more dominant for obvious reasons. Jason was also the more emotional of the two and therefore I felt a deeper understanding of his character as opposed to the more subdued David.

Important issues like homophobia and the HIV virus were brought to the forefront of this story and handled in a mature, not overly preachy way. While I felt the HIV issue was handled in a sensitive and nicely incorporated manner, the fears of homophobia which were mentioned often early on, seemed to be quickly swept under the rug with everyone seeming to easily accept this new relationship. Another issue casually mentioned was postpartum depression, which was the catalyst for Jason and David getting together, but was resolved before it really even started. It's purpose was solely as a plot device which is a shame since the author dealt with the other serious issues rather well.

As this is the first book in a series, we're introduced to many secondary characters with one leaving a particularly strong impression. The former hard partying, recently diagnosed with HIV character of Craig changed dramatically from first meeting to last and I'd be intrigued to see how a relationship would progress for him considering his HIV status. With how well Ms. Stone handled things here, I have no doubt that a full-length story for Craig would be as sensitively written. No matter whose story is told next I look forward to revisiting the Great White North and am eagerly anticipating this author's next release.(less)

SOMETIMES IT'S FATE is a story about Jason and David, two police officers living in a northern New Brunswick town. Their friendship has been growing stronger for years and their job connection as partners only solidified it.

We get introduced into the story just as David finds out Jason is gay and surprisingly enough hasn't got any issues with it. Instead, gradually, their friendship turns into something more and is just as solid as their friendship.

Both men were fun characters to read about. They were strong and down to earth with a big sense of responsibility. Their relationship matched their personalities and no conflict to come between them just made everything easier. What I liked, and I'm sure a lot of other people will too, was the genuine attention to detail when it came to police work and little details like jokes and sets of rules. It felt like the story was based on men the author knows and I, for one, liked that.

More realistic rating of this book would be somewhere between three and four, a rating I cannot give, but I thought the book was nice enough to kind of smudge that and I just gave it four. Some readers will have a problem with the easy way things happened. The no-conflict thing is truly that and the ‘small-minded' comment I read in the blurb cannot apply to this story. No one had issues with the two men being together and they found support on every corner. It is unrealistic, but it was written is such a way that I couldn't genuinely mind.

Children in an m/m romance always make me smile and it is something I like to read about. David has three and all of them were a joy, but what got to me was just how great Jason was with them. They felt like a family and that you just don't see very often.

The plot moved fast, giving away just enough details about the couple to not feel lost but not enough to make you all sated and satisfied. But on a happier note, there is a sequel, one of two actually, scheduled for release next year and I am hoping more will be said about the men and their happily ever after.

Until then, this author will give you a taste of real men in real everyday situations, where her unique writing style gives a book enough of the special to make it stand out. (less)

Even though at times it seemed slow, and there were quite a few editing errors with missing words/letters I really enjoyed reading this book. The romance between Jason and David was nicely written and believable and their characters were well drawn. Though I admit at times David seemed a bit too perfect as he seemed to handle being attracted to Jason (where before he thought himself straight) and the HIV scare almost too easily. This is a nicely written story about friends to lovers. David, divorced with 3 children, and Jason, his police partner, realise that they have feelings for each other. The story centres around David, who is not gay, acknowledging his growing feelings for Jason. There are some family dramas, issues with David's ex-wife, problems with one of Jason's buddies and a bit of police action. The sex scenes are well written.

After finishing Sometimes It’s Fate, written by Angela Stone, I am left somewhat perplexed. Not perplexed about the book itself, which was very enjoyable, more so about a pivotal juncture I have reached in my own life upon reflecting on the content of this book! I read Angela S Stone’s second book in this series first, BOOTS ON THE GROUND, and it was an epic read, a highly recommended book. I didn't like either of the main characters and it seemed like the author just kept adding every possible issue you can think of for a gay couple. It was not believable at all and I had a hard time finishing it ..

I really, really liked this book, but I have to tell you that I was completely emotionally spent at the end. This author is incredibly good at painting a picture with her words, I felt almost voyeuristic while reading. Good m/m romance about two members of the RCMP (Mounties) whose friendship slowly develops into something else. I think this book had the potential to be much, much better than it was - better editing would have helped tighten it up and would have resolved problems with punctuation and the like.

This was an enjoyable story that was fairly predictible. It never actually gets too deep or too heavy, despite some aspects of the storyline where you would expect that. Everything seems to just fall into place for Jason and David, and I'm hoping the next book shakes things up a bit.
