It's been two months since Pandora English left her small hometown to live with her mysterious great-aunt in a haunted mansion in Spektor – the fog-wreathed suburb of Manhattan that doesn't appear on any map. Marissa Novels On The Run
3.75 STAR RATING

In book 2 of the Pandora English Novels by Tara Moss, we continue with Pandora English - the Seventh and her journey to uncover what being the Seventh means.

Her ghostly, would-be love interest Lieutenant Luke continues to be at her beck and call and connections between the two continue to grow. Though being YA and of course Luke being a ghost (!), not a lot happens which is quite OK with me! But wait.....the discovery of Luke's civil war sword brings about a physical change that...more

This is the second in the series and a much better book than the first. However, it still lacked something. I mean the Spider Goddess was not really the central part of the story, it is almost secondary to Pandora trying to discover who and what she is and sort out her feelings for Lt Luke. It is apparent that Moss has a bigger story arc in my mind for this series and you can see some of it develop in the novel.
Pandora never really investigates the Spider Goddess happenings, it more by mere cha...more

I found New York City labyrinthine and intimidating when I went there for some TV interviews in 2010. My unease would have tripled had I found myself among the ghosts, ghouls and goddesses of Spektor, Manhattan’s undead district – but I’m not Pandora English.

The Spider Goddess is Tara Moss’ second paranormal thriller, and it sparkles with even more imagination and wit than its predecessor, The Blood Countess. As a plucky journalist with psychic tendencies, Pandora is instantly likeable, and her...more

The Spider Goddess is the second book in Tara Moss’s Pandora English series. I started reading it immediately after finishing the first book, The Blood Countess (gosh aren’t those iBooks links at the back of the book to the next in the series handy?)

The Spider Goddess is a fun, quick read in a very similar vein to The Blood Countess. Pandora English is a supernaturally gifted assistant at a New York magazine who is only starting to discover and develop her powers. She lives with her preternatura...more

We were lucky and our rep gave us a review copy of Spider Goddess, book 2 in the Pandora English series. I really enjoyed the first book and couldn’t wait to read the second. The book picks up basically just after the end of book 1. Pandora is still working for Pandora Magazine and she is still getting picked on by the trio of vampire models. The story starts off with Pandora finding a big spider, yes a big spider and she doesn’t kill it. She puts it into a cup and takes it home. This starts off...more

The Spider Goddess starts a few months after The Blood Countess. Pandora has settled into her new life in NY. She's still getting used to the secret supernatural world she's found herself in, but she's no longer afraid.

Our supermodel nemesis, Athanasia, is back causing problems for Pandora. However, Pandora has now learnt how to deal with her.

We finally meet the elusive (and turns out, quite freaky) vampire Deus. Deus was a nice surprise. He wasn't at all what I was expecting.

There were a few m...more

THE SPIDER GODDESS picks up two months after the end of ‘The Blood Countess’ ends. Pandora has settled in with her great-aunt in a creepy mansion in the fog shrouded New York suburb of Spektor. Spektor doesn’t appear on any map and no-one has heard of it. Pandora and her aunt do not live alone in the mansion, there are some creepy guests, some of whom would love to feed off Pandora and have no reason to like her and every reason to fear Pandora’s growing powers. Pandora has found out that she is...more

It's been two months since Pandora English arrived in New York. Two months since her life changed and she found herself in the world of the supernatural.
In the next part of her journey, she discovers what it means to be the 7th of the Lucasta family.

Pandora, ever since she arrived has formed some connection with Lieutenant Luke, but there is one problem: He is a ghost, who she can only see. They have a complicated relationship, but he seems to be the only one that understands her. Whether that's...more

Second book in this YA supernatural series by 'adopted' Australian/Canadian model-turned-author Tara Moss. As enjoyable as the first and we get to know a few of the characters from the first book, a bit better. Have to say though, Pandora's great aunt is a tad annoying, though and I think the author needs to do more with this character than having her lounging around reading books and looking fashionable. I do like the dynamic between Pandora and Lt Luke. I dare say (hope?) there will be more in...more

There are plenty of eight-legged beasties running around in this novel that follows Pandora on another adventure in exciting New York. Pandora is trying to live a normal-ish life after discovering the plethora of supernatural forces that surround her, but she’s finding it hard because designers keep going missing!

I feel like there was a lot going on the novel: Pandora’s powers and the continuing eccentricity of her great-aunt, her rivalry with Athanasia and the resulting attacks on her life by v...more

This is the second book in the Pandora English series. It continues from the previous book and clearly the books in this series are all part of the same story and should therefore be read in order for it all to make sense. That said, I enjoyed this read.

Pandora continues to learn the truth about herself and that unfortunately she has new and more evil foes than the average new arrival in New York city.

I look forward to the next in the series, The Skeleton Key.

This is the 2nd book in the Pandora English series and I must say it was wonderful to return to Spector, to Great Aunt Celia, Lt Luke, the fashion industry and of course, Pandora. The writing style is fun and well paced but not superficial. There is depth running underneath the witty dialog and prose and more than a few 'grains of truth.' Tara knows how to write suspense and shiver-creepy scenes that make this a true paranormal read. I loved it!

As with the first book, The Blood Countess , TSG is...more

A bit of a disappointing read. The first book in the series was interesting enough to make me want to read the second but now I feel a bit cheated. Pandora English, the protagonist of the series was quite likeable in the first book but started to frustrate me in the second. Something about The Spider Goddess felt a bit off. I will still read the 3rd book when it comes out later this year to see if Moss manages to make me believe in Pandora again.

Many sequels leave the audience wondering why anyone even bothered to make the sequel. This is generally because the sequel was rubbish, or had nothing to do with the first except for a theme or location.
Don't stress. This is not one of those of those sequels.

Like all good sequels The Spider Goddess steps it up a few notches to keep the reader turning the pages. Tara Moss's heroine, Pandora English, is thrown deeper into the dark & mysterious world of the supernatural in nightmarishly skin...more

It really lacks depth. It's like the author was trying too hard to make everything more mysterious. The ending was especially unsatisfactory. There were so many things unanswered. It might be an attempt to prolong the suspension for the next book, but it is really not worth it.

I am disappointed considering the high rating for the ebook.

I think I enjoyed this book more than the first, which is actually surprising as normally the first of the series is the best. Someone told me this series was based on greek mythology and although there are the mentions of it throughout the play, I don't think it can really be classified under that section.

I really enjoyed this. The Spider Goddess is the second novel in the Pandora English series and is terribly addictive. I honestly didn't expect to like The Blood Countess as much as I did but Moss has created a world that completely draws you in. I'm glad I didn't overlook the first book. It is a light-hearted and often funny novel and yet still has heart. It is also quite dark and the mystery behind Spektor is intriguing. I also love that Moss can poke fun of the fashion world and supermodel st...more

Another great addition to the Pandora English series with more fashion and paranormal romance. In this book, a string of designers go missing and Pandora has to discover the cause. I really liked the revelation with Luke as this allowed their relationship to develop further, but I won't tell you what it is. You'll have to read it to find out.

Very similar to the last "Pandora English" book. I love Tara Moss for holiday reading. She's perfect. The continues on, some of the blanks are filled, and some more are opened up for us to find out. Can't wait to read the next installment.

What can I say? Read the book in an hour, the text is in a larger size to fluff out the story line.

The book felt rushed with lack of depth to the stories and characters.

I expected more from the author.

Again Tara Moss has produced an amazing and captivating book. The Blood Countess was great, but the Spider Goddess was defiantly a stand out :) i cannot wait for The Skeleton Key to be published!

Really awesome. I don't normally read books like this but I was pleasantly surprised. Now I have to wait for the new book in the series to come out, my least favourite part!

Just beautiful. This is the first of Ms. Moss's books I read. I find myself utterly charmed by Pandora. Am hooked on this series.

Overall, THE SPIDER GODDESS was another great follow-up to the paranormal series of Tara Moss's and even though it is only part of a series I think this book can really stand alone just as well. Plotted with very strong female characters, interesting story turn-points, and some pretty cool mythology in the works, I'm sure many readers will enjoy this sequel as much as they enjoyed the first book in the series and I would definitely recommend it!
