I wrote this book back in 2003. Like the first two, it has gone through substantial rewrites since then. (Substantial meaning "Completely new plot and characters") What didn't change was the mystery involved (who is trying to kill Kit's boss?) and Kit's heartache of trying to convince herself she wasn't in love with her ex.

I love the Kit Melbourne stories. She's a great character. Probably the best series to compare them with is the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries, and I like these better. The characters, even the minor ones, are more developed, the plots are denser and the atmosphere feels more "realistic". I put that in quotes because excursions to the Realm of the Faerie don't fall into one's usual definition of realism, but those excursions feel plenty real when you read them. For full disclosure, I know the author, but can honestly say I enjoyed this book.

This is the third in the Kit Melbourne series and each book is better than the last. Kit has had some setbacks but is getting her life on track and doing well. Or at least mostly well. There are still some challenges or there wouldn't be a story. These books are wonderful, imaginative reads. Very enjoyable.
