This may come as a complete shock to you guys, but I know a thing or two about urban fantasy. Not too much, mind you, but enough to recognize a good UF novel when I read one. Here’s what I can tell you: Diana Rowland is one of the best. Whenever I get my hands on her latest novel, I’m absolutely certain that I will enjoy it immensely.

Sins of the Demon picks up just a few weeks after the great discovery at the end of the third book. Now that she finally knows what he is, Kara would like nothing...more

Really? That's the cover? WOW that's awful! The original art for the first two books was beautiful & then book 3 had that comic book cheese art & this just looks like a doodle by some 15 year-old emo perv kid! If I didn't know how amazing Diana's writing was (aka new to the series) that art work would have me running in the other direction! Still looking forward to the book but damn that's a cheesy cover!

Okay now that I've read the book, the cover art is the only bad thing about it! I wo...more

very interesting cover. i'm more curious about what it's hiding though.
come oooooooooooon more Rhyzkahl!

=( not as much Rhyzkahl as i would have liked. and that ending is just plain mean Diana Rowland!

This cover belongs in a Japanese Hentai magazine with the rest of the tentacle rape anime-porn. So wrong.

Absolutely love this series, but I hate cliffhanger endings more. -1 star

After the dramatic ending of Secrets of the Demon, Diana Rowland is back with a vengeance with her fourth Kara Gillian novel, Sins of the Demon, that serves to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

Despite all that has been thrown at her during the course of the past year, between murders with heavy demonic influence, her ties with a demon lord, and the discovery of another demon lord in hiding, Kara has managed to come out ahead. Unfortunately, someone is now trying to summ...more

Final Page Thoughts

*ahem* Excuse the language, but what the HELL kind of ending was that?! No, I’m sorry, that wasn’t an ending… that was more like a chapter ending, except my book must have been missing the subsequent pages. AHHH! What a cliffhanger. And now we have to wait a whole YEAR!? Is it available for pre-order yet?? Someone shoot me now. *Sobs*

Something that’s been ongoing in this series for a while, a bit of an issue with Kara, is resolv...more

If I had to sum up this book in one sentence, I would have to say it's fairly good, but truly never satisfies. The writing and editing is in-line with the rest of the series, and the pace was decent enough, so what went wrong? This book felt more like a filler novel. Yes, we learn a little more about a couple of the characters, but not much more than that, other than a mystery subplot that's predictable and distracting from the main series plot. My biggest gripe is with the huge cliffhanger endi...more

Ok, I have to start with WTF with that ending?! Come on! Now that thats out of the way. Kara is back to work investigating another murder of a person from a not so pleasant part of her past. Not so soon after that yet another person from her past shows up dead. Meanwhile Kara is trying to avoid being summoned to the best of her ability, with the help of her demon roommate bodyguard of course. Ryan, Zack and Jill come to help her as much as possible, while Ryan still has his head up his ass and K...more

HOLY. CLIFFHANGER. BATMAN!!!

**The only reason I'm not EXTREMELY freaking out about this ending, is because the next book in the series is being released in a couple of weeks...otherwise, I think I would be ranting**

This was by far my favorite book in the series. The Author's world, and character building has progressed wonderfully since the beginning of the series.

The writing, bantering between characters, and 'wicked' humor is what has kept me reading, and wanting more.

However, I have a confess...more

Things I should not do: review this book immediately after reading it. That sort of thing colours your perceptions and prevents objectivity.

Things I am going to do any way: review this book immediately after reading it.

Holy mother of crud on a fish cracker, but I thought the last Demons book ended on a cliff hanger. I'd go and spoil it for you but nah - you should just go read it . If you liked the first three you'll like this one too - more demons (new and old!) more secrets, some answers, but...more

This series just gets better and better even though we don't see much of Rhyzkahl, there is so much going on that he's not noticeably absent.

We learn more about Zack and Ryan, and frustratingly, information is doled out in increments leaving you wanting more. The mystery is connected to Kara's past giving us insight into the murder of her grandmother long ago.

The book is a rollercoaster from start to finish and keeps you on the edge of your seat, with the requisite cliffhanger ending, inducing...more

I should take off a star for the complete lack of demon sex. The previous book had a small amount, much less than its predecessors. This book had zero. A few token mentions, but that was it. That was one of the draws that hooked me on this series. A demon lord who has no qualms about slaughtering summoners, yet Rhyzkahl, the main demon lord in this series, is drawn to Kara, his summoner, enough that they have relations. That was an interesting aspect, but it seems like Rowland is phasing it out....more

I loved the first books in this series and I still thoroughly enjobed "Sins of the Demon". That said I am a little bit bewildered by this installment. The ending was a complete cliffhanger. It didn't feel like the previous books where there was an ending to the main plot and some threads that leave us anticipating the next book in the series. This just ended right amid the action. That was very confusing and disappointing. This felt almost like a mini book. Since I jumped right into what I didn'...more

Fourth in the Kara Gillian urban fantasy/police procedural series revolving around a demon summoner/cop in Louisiana.

My Take
DO NOT read this book unless you also have Touch of the Demon on hand to read immediately after!!

Yup. Tension and drama. All through the story along with Kara's own questions as to Rhyzkahl's purpose in coming across, the affection he shows her, the lovemaking she adores. The additional demons he says he's bringing with him!

Oh, what a crack up! Seem Eilahn is the very prou...more

Kara Gillian has a new roommate, Eilahn, a demon left there by the Demon Lord Rhyzkahl to protect her. Their interaction is one of the things that I truly enjoyed from this book. They even have a cat now, Fuzzykins, who of course hates Kara but loves the demon.
Kara's life is complicated. She is a demon summoner who is trying to stay on this side of the earth. Unfortunately someone is trying to summon her to the demon realm where she will become a servant. And in her current realm someone is murd...more
Fangs for the Fantasy
People are dying around Kara Gillian again… though apparently from natural causes. Except, they all died the same improbable way, and they all have one connection – Kara. People Kara had every reason to want dead.

Then we have portals, hidden portals around the city, all of them linked both to each other, and to the mysterious deaths. There is something big behind them – but who and what that is a long and confusing mystery.

Along the way we learn so much about Ryan, about Kara herself, about the...more

More answers and more questions pretty much sums up this series for me. I really enjoy reading the Kara Gillian series. There's just something compelling about Kara and the system of summoning that always leaves me waiting for more. That said, I really do not appreciate the giant cliffhanger in the end of the book. I know they serve as hooks for the next read, but come on already.

In any case! This was a fun read. Kara trucks along, doing her detective thing, summoning demons and whatnot. I real...more

I was really looking forward to reading this book and it didn't disappoint. This series just gets better and better. I love the Urban Fantasy/Police Procedural crossover vibe that the stories have, and I do enjoy the humour in them. Kara is such a likeable heroine. She isn't one of those super tough, kill-everything-in-her-path type of UF women, and she seems far more believable because of it.

There are plenty of mysteries throughout the book, as Kara and her friends try to figure out who appears...more

OK, W T F ??? It was a great story and loved the plots and subplots but I HATE CLIFFHANGER ENDINGS!!!!!!!!! Took a book I would have rated 5 stars and held my nose to make it 4 stars at best with the ending that sux. I have read all the books and consider this a real kick in the teeth to the readers not only because of the ending but the next book (I am told) is at least a year away. In my case with about a hundred(s) of books read each year I never consider it a good plan to leave leave your re...more

What was that?? I was reading this book and I thought that it was just another nice book in the series but not anything special and then…

Kara isn’t in her best period in this story. People from her past end up dead and that doesn’t help her career at all, she’s trying to understand what Ryan is exactly without his knowledge because if he doesn’t know what he is and almost everyone it the realm of the demons want her as a slave. Yes, as you can understand her life isn’t good right now.

Slowly, Ka...more

I though book 3 was where this series hit its stride, and book 4 was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Kara solves a mystery, as per the earlier books, but the police work starts to take a back seat to finding out more about Kara's demon summoning powers and uncovering some new info - and new mysteries - about her friends and family. The mystery part was always the weakest part of the books to me (though I like Kara's policeman personality - I like that part of her identity, I just don't get that eng...more

I really don't WANT to give this 5 stars because I hate cliffhanger endings and this one was exceptionally bad. But it was too good not to. If it's a good book, don't worry, I won't forget to be looking for the next one and picking it up the day it comes out. Believe me, I have a running wish/preorder list at Powell's 19 books long. But there is nothing that drives me nuts like a long wait for a sequel to a book I really liked (I'm looking particularly at YOU Mr. Butcher). It leads to my seeking...more

What the hell was that ending!? I'm tempted to knock a star off the rating just for the freakin' cliffhanger ending. I utterly loathe cliffhangers. (Especially when the next book is not due out until the end of the year. >:( )

With that being said, this series has moved to the top of my favorite UF/PR list. It's even threatening to dethrone the Night Huntress series and take over the top spot. I love it that much.

Ms. Rowland has created an complex, intriguing world, with richly drawn character...more

4.5 Stars. One of the better UF series going. Excellent book, I just can't get over how much I enjoyed this story. This series is getting better by the book, and this entry really kicked the storyline into high gear. Rowland's gift for wordbuilding and storytelling has gone from really good to absolutely amazing. I couldn't read this one fast enough.

This book was less police procedural and very definitely more demon oriented. I wonder if Rowland is about to kick the police story aspect out of th...more

I'm scared. .. . . can anyone hold me? What is this!??!!?!?! Who is this demonic lord? Why why why, I liked Tracy! Eilahn, I love you, miss you already! IM SO STRESSED OUT!!!! ***

After reading all four books, I can't believe I ever wanted Ryan to be written off this books. OMG, harmatia! HE is a very intriguing character, and even though he has his random angry outburst, I can't really blame him now. He must be extremely confused about every single aspect of his life. I love him, but I still wan...more

Diana Rowland is a big ol' meanie. I can't believe she did that. Not only did she leave it on a huge cliffhanger, so left on THAT cliffhanger. Seriously?! If I had read this in January of this year, I'd be pissed that I had to wait an entire year for the next book. That was just so messed up.

I've been suspecting a certain thing about Kara ever since that scene where she was dying at the end of book 1 and Rhyzkahl took her to the demon realm so that she could die there and hopefully reform in the...more

Diana Rowland worked as a bartender, a blackjack dealer, a pit boss, a street cop, a detective, a computer forensics specialist, a crime scene investigator, and a morgue assistant, which means that she's seen a lot of weird crap. She won the marksmanship award in her Police Academy class, has a black belt in Hapkido, has handled numerous dead bodies in various states of decomposition, and can't ro...more
