My thoughts:
Keegan..I had so many problems with her. She was too-everything. Perfect and good at it all. The only thing she sucked at was gym at school but she got better at that too, after her training started. She was a shallow love sick teenager and I tried hard to like her but couldn't.
I liked Thaddeus' character much more. He was an awkward kid trying to shoulder the responsibility of being in a...more

Richard looked over at Rourk. "You better get used to this son. It takes two or three times longer to get anywhere with her when she has a camera in her hand." Looking amused, Rourk said, "I would wait forever for her."

Ok, I really liked this book, and as always thanks to read-2-review for giving it to me and introducing it to me... I really like Keegan, and her family. This book has a different few on the elven community and how life works for them. I REALLY like Rourk, and I really do hope that things work out this way! I've already purchased book 2 cuz now I HAVE to know what's going to happen!!! I like that there are more supernaturals than originally thought by Keegan (everyone seems to be something) and...more
"There has to be something more in this world than what the average eye sees!"
Keegan is a sixtien years old elf! Now I know you will start thinking of Santa and Christmas, but it's not that kind of elf. These elves are more human-like elves, maybe a bit shorter than an average human and with a bit sharpened ears, but overall very similar to humans.
Keegan is gifted, her mother is a healer, her brother is a seer, and her father is the chosen one, the one that will lead elves in the great battle th...more

I'm glad Coexist was only 150 pages; I was about to get a headache reading this horrifically insipid novel. Note: there are spoilers in this review.
Plot: There was no point to this story: Keegan spent 80 pages talking about her perfect, spoiled life, then spent 30 pages talking about her and Rourk's insta-love. Oh hey, this doesn't look long enough to be a novel, so let's throw in 40 pages about a random, rushed war that again succeeded to focus on Keegan. Sure, there was a tiny twist slipped in...more

I received this book from Read 2 Review.
This book was nearly 5 stars for me. I really like it. From the first page, I was drawn into the story and felt invested into it. Other than Tolkien, I haven’t really read about elves, so that was nice. The mythology was great. The story line was believable. I really felt for Keegan.
So why not five stars? Somewhere a little after halfway through, I felt cheated with Keegan and her beau. (view spoiler)...more

The first thing that came to my mind, in the middle of this book is I bet every teenage girl would fall in love with this book. I would definitely say this would be an ideal present for Christmas! Beautiful covers for each book and the ideal story you actually want younger teens to read!

Coexist by Julia Crane was a great, fast and light read. The story centers around a girl named Keegan, who is an elf. In a world where magical beings integrate well in human society, she has grown up a privileged and happy teenager. Her only care in the world is shopping for parties and hanging with friends. Yet an imminent battle between light and dark elves has escalated, with Keegan’s family in the very center of it all.

This was a great book if you're into science fiction/fantasy. There are elves, shape shifters, etc. and the inevitable battle between light and dark. It had a very unexpected ending...and the author leaves you wanting more. Fortunately, there are at least two more books in this series (Keegan's Chronicles) and I'm looking forward to reading both of them. I think this was originally intended as a book targeted to a slightly younger audience but I am quite sure that adult fans of fantasy will enjo...more
As a freebie, it wasn't bad.
Elves and other supernatural characters inhabit our world in secret. We know from the get go this is true. Keegan is a 16 or 17 year old elf. And she is pretty perfect. I mean she doesn't have many faults which I mean I guess that is ok. She isn't my favorite character. There really isn't much to say about her, I'm kind of indifferent. She knows the name of her 'chosen' the love of her life, her soul mate Rourk.

Although a nice story, it was more than too juvenile for my taste. The language and sentence structure was distorted. The vocabulary was too 'young' the whole story sounds like if it was written by an 14 year old.
The concept of chosen, was done nicely, but has been done already to death, it would have been nice to see another twist to it. These elves were very unconventional and that took away from the magic and folklore that usually surrounds them and adds a more potent level of magic to the st...more

First, I want to say "no offense" to Julia. I love the story line. I haven't read enough books on elves and in general, they are usually portrayed as little people with pointy ears. Not quite "romantic" in my eyes, and I unfortunately, I love romance in 99% of my books. So I was really psyched to read this book. I'm a little conflicted which is why I rated the book a 3. I did read others' reviews (after I read the book because I am one to write spoilers and wanted to form my opinion based on wha...more
I really enjoyed this book. It had a great story, a fantastic main character, a great love story, and Rourk was the perfect hero to the story. The build up to the action was great.
There were some slow parts (OK, most of the build up was kind of slow), but I thought the ending more than made up for it.
That said, the twist at the ending I could have done without. I have love triangles and I adored the concept in this book of the Elf elders picking mates for the elfs and how the matches made were...more

This is the first novel in the Keegan Chronicles by Julia Crane. It is also the first book Julia Crane book that I have had the pleasure of reading. Although I do have almost every one of her books, but keep getting too busy to start them, until now. And honestly, I LOVED IT!!! this is my perfect kind of read. It has Elves! Which if you follow my reviews, I believe I have only read one other book featuring these creatures. So there are rather rare to me lol. Also, I liked how the author incorpor...more
I was very disappointed in this book. I was excited about it, truly I was. But my excitement was pretty much beaten with a metal rod, doused in water then tasered. Oh and set on fire.
First off, Keegan. I could not stand this girl. She was immature and whiny. But everyone worshipped her despite her selfishness and the rude way she treated every single person that she came into contact with. But of course she had to be good at everything anyway which apparently came with being an elf. I, for one,...more

There were good things and bad things about this book.
Good:
The idea was interesting, the great battle between the sides of light and dark. The elfin society that was created was intriguing and well-developed. I liked the concept of having a chosen and it being a good match without the pair ever meeting. There was change/growth in the main character. The main climax of the battle and its relation to Keegan was decent. The relationship between Keegan and Rourk was alright, but the ending of the st...more

This book, by Julia Crane, was such a page turner! I can't tell you how much I loved it. Keegan, a 16 year old elf with the power to go invisible, has been waiting for her "Chosen" her entire life. Traditionally the elfin people have to wait until their 18th birthday to meet their future spouse, or Chosen, but things change when war interferes with your every day life. The battle against light and dark interrupts life for all supernatural beings. Spending a magical weekend with Rourk and her par...more

Ya know, Keegan is the kind of main character I desperately hate. Obviously, the MC should be one of the most likable characters, but seriously, I was kinda hoping she would just die.
She's suppose to be some mythical creature, all humble and what-not, and what I got was a bratty, whiny, spoiled, naive, ignorant, big-headed, selfish, love-sick, annoying, and compleletly unlikable teenage girl who seemed to do nothing but shop, text, and cry whenever she didn't get what she wanted. Like seriously...more

I have to give this story props for originality and keeping me interested even with all the flaws. This review will contain spoilers as I can see no other way of explaining what was wrong with this book without giving a little away. I will try to be careful. The first problem with this book was all the different points of view. A really good author can write about everything going on without putting you in everyone's heads and having to spell everything out for you. This author felt like she had...more
Let me start by saying this is a novel I feel falls into the YA Category, and is a story that will touch the heart of any teenager who has felt drawn to another, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, we have all been there at one point or another, and felt the awkward emotions of our teen years. We have all felt drawn to someone or some thing at some point in our lives, and it was an unmistakable urge.

Have to tell ya, this book wasn't super riveting. I had a number of problems with it. First of all, the perspective changed way too often...sometimes in the middle of a paragraph! I'd be reading Keegan's thoughts and then - bam! - I'd be reading Rourk's thoughts or her dad's thoughts. It was confusing. Also, Keegan drove me nuts! She was completely self-centered, and obsessed with little more than shopping and clothes. I felt nothing for her. I hated all the brand name dropping (Facebook, Tumblr...more
Keegan is a 16 year old elf girl living among other creatures of light and dark undetected in the human world. She spends her time shopping, partying, taking pictures, and daydreaming of her chosen partner for life - even though she hasn't met him yet due to elf customs. She also has a little bother who just happens to see the future and foretells that on her birthday will be a battle between light and dark that could mean the end of Keegan's family and the entire light elf race and Keegan is a...more
I like the general idea of this book, but it needs some major re-writing. Switching perspectives from sentence to sentence drove me crazy. Keegan drove me crazy; she was way too spoiled to be appealing. And her parents! Really? Take away the credit card, make her earn some of her own money,do something! An d I know that teenagers are often obsessed with shopping and clothes, (at least the beautiful, shallow ones like depicted in this book), but spare me, as a reader, the endless details of all th...more
After reading the reviews on this, I admit to being nervous about starting it. I'm so glad I did! Yes, I deplore bad editing, but most of the issues many were having must have been fixed...the grammatical errors were minor and in no way detracted from the story arc the way they tend to do. The narration, third person omniscient, was an interesting choice and given the numerous characters and their perspectives, one can see why this type of narration was used. I've read plenty of books where the...more
This book could have been so much more! The plot itself is pretty intriguing, but it gets overshadowed by the cheesy writing and the one- dimensional characters. I couldn't stand the main character Keegan. She was a self absorbed, spoiled teenager. Everyone else is preparing for war and all she can think about is going to a concert with her friends? Yeah, not very likable.

I downloaded this book because it was free on Amazon, where it had some decent reviews, and I generally enjoy the genre.
You know that saying about getting what you pay for? Yeah. Coexist just replaced Sherrilyn Kenyon's Fantasy Lover as the worst book I've ever read — and given how much I hated Fantasy Lover, that's really saying something.

“Rourk didn’t even know her name, but he knew he’d never seen anyone so magnificent in his life. Her wavy hair glistened in the sunlight. She had a delicate, round face with large, blue-green eyes and full lips. With her cheeks flushed from the cold fall air, she reminded him of a porcelain doll. He knew that her looks deceived; her bold, daring eyes gave her away. She constantly observed her surroundings. Rourk smiled to himself; soon they would be together.”
