I decided to read this book after reading "Bared to You" which I loved.
SPOILER ALERT!!**

Basically you automatically get introduced to the main characters Lyssa Bates and Aiden Cross. Lyssa is a regular human "Dreamer" while Aiden is a nearly immortal "Guardian." When dreamers fall asleep, but before they enter deep sleep, they enter the "Twilight" which is another dimension which we know as the dream world. The Guardians each have certain tasks for the Dreamers. They are able to enter their drea...more

I actually found the premise of this novel very interesting, unfortunately it was just written by a amateur writer. I felt completely disconnected from the 'love' between the two main characters. Day kept writing on the page how passionate they were together but I didn't pick up on that when reading. It take more to convey passion and a depth of feeling then simply stating it in black and white. The characters have to display this through their gestures. The only love scene that caught my intere...more

I'm actually reading this book again for the second time before I start on the next book.

I love love loved reading this book again for the second time. I loved the way Aidan Cross simply adored Lyssa. They both had such a great connection and their sex scenes were hot. I found through out the book I was holding my breath through certain parts.

The first time I read this book it honestly took me by surprise with the whole dream sequences and such but as I got through it I just fell in love with h...more

This is my 1st book by Silvya Day and all I can say is oh em gee!! LOL! I was completely taken by surprise with the sex scenes in this book. I knew when I decided to give this type of book a try, based on the description that it would have some erotic scenes but was shocked when I read the 1st page! I gotta say though, I quite enjoyed it and plan to buy the next book in the series. Though I'm a bit dissapointed to find out she doesn't have plans to continue the series till later due to dissagrem...more

I enjoyed it, but there were too many unanswered questions at the end.

This is the first in a series. The second book is coming out in 2008. It was pretty good for paranormal, but I prefer other paranormal worlds. This is about humans having dreams. While dreaming, guardians join them in the dreams. The guardians are aliens who live on another plane and fight off nightmares from hurting humans. Aiden is a guardian who falls in love with Lyssa a human and he crosses over to the earth world. She al...more

This one by Sylvia Day I found quite interesting. Although erotic and quite steamy, it also had the supernatural element to it. Lyssa meets Captain Aidan Cross in her dreams, because that is where he protects her. He is a dream guardian protecting her from the nightmares, but she seems to be able to control the dream world surprisingly well for a human. When when the two meet in her dreams their attraction is so strong, neither are able to overcome their feelings; it's hot. Wanting Aidan to be i...more

I am not too sure what I thought of this book. I enjoyed "Bared to You" but I didn't find I liked this book as much. I think part of it was that I am not usually into the "fantasy type story" if that makes sense ( not that I think Bared to You took place or anything lol ) and I found it hard to get into. It was a good read to keep me busy while I waited for my newest shipment of books.

I'm trying very hard not to DNF it...I'm finding it very slow going.

EDIT: Okay, so I ended up DNFing it, speed-reading through the second half to see if it would get any better. It didn't. I just didn't believe any of it: the plot, the characters, their motives.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one day. It is hot hot HOT! The sex is amazing. I will say that I connected so with the emotional aspects brought out during sex between the two main characters too...a couple of scenes had me crying they were so touching. But most were hot. I also loved the theme of this book dealing with our dream world and supernatural beings involved therein. Very original storyline to me anyway. LOL I do wish that there had been a bit more background into the wh...more

Sylvia Day is one of my all time favourite readers and she never manages to dissapoint. She manages to mesh the genres that she has chosen whether it be historical or paranormal so well with the romance and erotica part of her books. I've never been left feeling like oh well there could have been more sex, or there could have been less of it etc.

This book is no exception.

I really enjoyed this book. I would say that the main focus is on the Hero and Heroine, Aiden and Lyssa (who are amazing by the way). There is a good storyline that runs throughout, which I am looking forward to learning more about.
One reason I didn't rate this book higher is because it was (in some parts) very confusing. The information we are learning about their world is thrown at you quite quickly and isn't explained very well. I for one don't know a lot about the dream world and the subc...more

High Hopes Lead to Disappointment...

I discovered this book after having read other books by this author and the premise of this paranormal fantasy romance sounded intriguing. As promised, there was a lot of sex. Unfortunately, this story was light on passion and story line. Though I was willing and open, I wasn't brought to feel interest or concern for the characters and the challenge they faced or delight in their finding each other in the real world. I didn't feel her “ache” for him nor his “p...more

Unfortunately I abandoned this book at 33%, not because it was particularly bad - I just couldn't get into it, as much as I tried and tried it just didn't hook me in, I could have finished to the end but my days of having to read something, because I had to, are in my distant past and now I read only for pleasure, this was not a pleasure, which was so disappointing as other works by Sylvia Day I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Without giving too much away this is the story of a young woman (Lyssa), a ve...more

I rented this book in the audiobook format. I have to say, reading Sylvia Day's books is one thing, and hearing it is a completely different experience! Listening to this book allowed my imagination to dig deeper into the story and its characters. This is a very hot and steamy take on dreams and nightmares. It totally had me dreaming of my own Aidan Cross before I even made it to the end.

I won't give spoilers away though, because A) I don't want to ruin it for any one of you, and B) this book is...more

I thought this story had an interesting premise, and I have enjoyed other books by this author ("Bared to You"), so I started "Pleasures of the Night" but I just can't finish it.

It is going in my DNF stack. After starting out briskly, when we meet Lyssa and Aidan Cross, the plot seems to start spinning in circles. I understand that the author has to explain her fantasy world and its rules to her readers, but surprisingly, there just seems to be waay too much smoke and mirrors to make sense of. I...more

I enjoyed this book. I have never read books about the dream world before. Not sure what subgenre of romance this falls into. But Aiden is one hell if a hunky Guardian that I would love to have enter my dream world. He is sent into the human world to enter Lyssa's dream & see if she is the "key" that his Elders want destroyed. Aiden is the only Guardian that Lyssa's allows into her dreams. A connection form between these two that shows you love is universal. Although a some of the info rega...more

Vacation read. Picked because it was cheap on Barnes and Noble for my Nook. Curious because this has been recommended (by librarians at a conference even) as a far better example of erotica than 50 Shades of Blah. I would disagree. It was a tad bit better. After several steamy scenes between the two main charactes, I couldn't quite figure out what was bugging me so much about the book. Then I read one of those scenes aloud to my husband. Through the tears (of laughter) streaming from my eyes aft...more

I had no idea this series was out there-poor me! I love Sylvia Day's writing. Her characters have a way of drawing me in and making me cheer for them. I was skeptical about this because I started ready SD with Eva and Gideon from "Bared to You" and thought no way anything could live up to them. Although this has a fantasy twist to it (like Gideon is not a fantasy in and of himself ;-)) the characters are still fantastic the concept is great and I loved it. Of course all of the guardians are beau...more

I'm torn. This is so different than what Sylvia Day, with the exception of the erotic, usually writes that it's taking me moments to come up with something to say. I liked this story. The world building was a bit weak, I kept waiting to hear more about the slipstreams and the dream world. I'm interested enough to read the next in the series. Ms. Day got caught up in reminding us how beautiful Aidan Cross was, how blonde & petite (cliche' much?) Lyssa was. There were lots of holes in the stor...more

SO bummed because her Crossfire novels were so fun to read. This honestly felt like a rough draft that one would later go back to to fill in character info. The reader would actually care about the characters and feel the passion between them if we understood the depth of their connection through more context, history and perhaps inner dialogue. The premise is so fun I am really bummed this book didn't work out. I had to give up on it. I also thought if I read them call one another 'hot stuff' o...more

Pleasures of the Night is book 1 of the Dream Guardians series by Sylvia Day. I knew this was going to be an interesting book, read this to mean VERY HAWT, gasp!! on page one of the Prologue. The “Guardian” Aidan Cross seemed to have a VERY interesting job, from a male’s point of view.

Lyssa Bates, a veterinarian, is dreamer having nightmares, and Aidan the Guardian of Dreamers is assigned to Lyssa finding it unusual that he has difficulty entering through the dream door. Because she liked the...more

This book was unusual and kinda hot but "reading" the audio version where the narrator does fake accents (poorly) and the guy's poorly executed brogue sounded super awkward... I actually "read" the second half and it was better because I didn't have to listen to the badly acted out accent. Other than the hot sex - it didn't really have that much going for it, because all the original ideas seemed to be waaaay underdeveloped. The whole book requires a major suspension of belief - which is fin...more

The concept of the story is about otherworldly giving good dreams to humans, or granting humans what they desire to dream about. The dream protectors battle the nightmares (a faction in otherworldly) from invading human minds. No humans should be able to recognize the otherworldly. If a human does, it signifies that she/he is the key to the demise of the dream protectors by unleashing nightmares into the human world. The dream warriors are tasked to kill the human who is brand...more

I always loved reading a good fantasy novel. Stretching out my imagination to include a different realm, a different race, and a different outlook on real world concepts. The idea of the dream guardians was what intrigued me and pushed me to read the book in the first place, thinking it new and had some sense of plausibility. I started out loving the Twilight world, the dream guardians, the mystery of the Key and the Elders, the idea of the enigmatic Aidan Cross and vulnerable Lisa Bates' love n...more

I loved her CrossFire series...... However this book was just too out there..... I got about 1/4 way through when I finally gave up....... She is a human, a "Dreamer"...... He is a "Guardian" who goes around fighting nightmares to protect humans...... Yep it was as out there and far fetched as it sounds...... Sorry I don't recommend

I have two minds on this book although I enjoyed it I found myself a little board at times. The characters are all great but I found myself liking Connor and Stacey so I think I may read the second book too. So like I said this was a good book to read and look forwards to reading the next book. The author is very good

This is my first two star review. I was listening to this book on audio and stopped about half way through. I have to say this genre is little out of my comfort zone so it might fit better for other people.

The story has some interesting ideas where there is Guardian who protects people from nightmares. He fights the nightmares with his sword. He also seduces women while they are dreaming and gives the best sex ever. Adian, the guardian and immortal, becomes interested in Lyssa, who is a veterina...more
