Supposedly this is geared toward a younger audience (middle grade), but I really enjoyed this prequel to the Frost series. I feel that it could be read by anyone of any age. Honestly, if you enjoyed the Frost series, it's pretty likely that you'll enjoy this series.

It was really interesting to read from Rose's POV, and see her start as an alchemist. I also enjoyed seeing what Feyland was like before Breena, Kian, and Logan came into the story. Kailin Gow yet again sucks you into to a magical wo...more

This book is... fine. The story is fine, the characters are fine, the writing* is fine. It's capably structured and conceived, it just didn't stick with me or leave much of an impression at all once I was done. And it's very brief and ends with many threads open, almost as though it were merely the first episode of an ongoing animated series - fitting, as it's largely a Winx Club derivative. This is a light-hearted, quick read that ties minor characters into the Bitter Frost series. (I personally love it when authors create a new story around minor characters. I feel that I have a new depth to understanding the series.) I recommend this for someone looking for an fun, easy read with spontaneity.

Rose is a summer fairy that is waiting to receive her life's work at her 13th birthday--human years. She is not sure what she would like to do, but has noble aspirations for herself. Her olde...more

For anyone that wanted to know more about some of the minor characters in the Frost Series, well this book will give you that and more. This book is about Rose, who is waiting to find out what her life's work is going to be. Her brother comes back home from training and brings Allistare with him.(who Rose thinks is cute). They have a bit of an adventure which leads to meeting the Winter Queen. Rose then finds out what her life's work is but would rather train with Allistare which she does secret...more

I enjoyed this story but was disappointed in the length. It is more of a short story and I felt like it did not get fully developed.... I'm curious as to the rest of the series though.
Good book short though
