I just finished reading the book Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks. The main problem in this book is having a relationship split by war. The setting in this book shows the difference between war life and every day life. The main charachter is John and his homestate is North Carolina, but he is often on the batte field preforming his army duties. Savanah is the girl john falls madly in love with, and she falls in love with him in return. Tim is Savanah's best friend, who John becomes friends with.

Dear John, is and amazing story about two young people falling in love. It starts off your typical love story, but then it goes bad. Savanah leaves John because he is always gone due to dutys in the military. She falls inlove while he is deployed and gets married. John is heart broken, and the eneding was so sad. I didnt really like the end, but what he dose to help Savanh after she already broke his heart is amazing.

This book is about two people who fall in love. They fall in love during the summer while he is on leave from the U.S. army. He has to go back to Iraq while Savannah Curtis gets married to her neighbor who becomes very ill. John finds out by getting a letter from Savannah telling him that she is getting married.

DEAR JOHN, wow! This is only the second book I've read by Nicholas Sparks, the first being A WALK TO REMEMBER. And thought A WALK TO REMEMBER was good and one of my favorite movies, it was nothing compared to DEAR JOHN. Then again I imagine it didn't help that I watched A WALK TO REMEMBER several times before I read the book, and that the book was very different, yet the same if that makes sense, then the movie.

"Dear John" was not a good book overall. I do not recommend this book for people who don't like love stories, or people who like exciting plots and adventures. This book went through the toughness of people separating and going their own ways, and how to deal with it. The book Dear John has to be one of my favorite story. This story Is mostly about A rebel son named John, and a educated daughter named Savannah. John has had a very terrible life because he lives with his dad in Wilmington, North Carolina. His dad sadly suffers of a terrible syndrome which is called asperger's syndrome. I found it a beautiful love story, that is not mushy but realistic. It was predictable, but it didn't matter because you want to experience everything. I found it had many realistic relationship situations, specially with over-seas soldiers. I think that it is truly sad, but it does happen. Everything that happens to the John I want to cry and go kick some peoples butts. Very emotional book, be ready, but beautiful.
At first I was very disappointed how the book only focused on one scene and I was scared it would be a short ending. As I got to read more I started to compare it with the movie and found that the movie focuses more on John's relationship with Savannah and not much with his dad. I saw the relationship with his father grow stronger in the book. Many might say that the ending of the book is disappointing because it's not what people want to read and hear. I chose this book because I love Nicholas Sparks and this book happen to be in my sister closet. The book is about a young man named John that falls in love with a girl Savannah. Savannah was in town temporary helping charities. They both ended up loving each other and wanted to end their loves together. You will have to read the book to see if they actually did. In the book Dear John by Nicholas Sparks introduces a love story that ends with an unsatisfied ending. John and Savannah are the two characters who fall for eachother in such a short amount of time. The book provides alot of description of how these two characters feel about eachother. I found this book on a freebie table and decided to give it a shot since I loved the Notebook. If love is truly about sacrifice then this book is about true love. I'm not sure if I would have been as noble as the main character was when it came to his final choice. It gave me a few moments to think about the relationships presented. I loved this book. It is one of my all time favorite books. It takes you on a emotional train ride of love and hate towards the couple and on the relationship. How they meet and he leaves her for 2 years and how they try there best to hold things together. Then he gets to come home but only for a short time, just to turn around and leave again. This book was sad to me. In the beginning when they fell in love it made my heart drop knowing that he was leaving to go to war soon. Then when she broke up with him over a letter i wanted to throw the book across the room. that had to have been the worst part of the book. Then when he extended his tour i couldn't believe it because his dad still needed him. When his dad died i had to put the book down because i was crying from the letter that he wrote for his father.
I read the book before I saw the movie. The book was mediocre at best, but the movie ruined the mediocre book. Don't expect it to give you a warm fuzzy feeling at the end.
I'm usually not a huge Nicholas Sparks fan due to the fact he waits until about halfway through the book to decribe his characters in main detail. It frustrates me because then I have to change the image I have of them.
My suggestion? Read the book and skip the movie.

I Love this book,Nicholas Sparks would never fail in love stories.Nicholas Sparks is like the new William Shakespeare he comes up with new love stories us hopeless romantics.I love how Savannah and John met and their conversations.I like that they brought up really current events into this story and the struggles of it.I just hate how they never got back to together its such a heartbreaker.
It took me six months to read this book which is pretty bad since i normally read a book sometimes two a week. I found it very boring at times and certain things were drug out that i didn't think were necessary. Even though it was it was tough to get through i dont like not finishing a book so i read the whole thing. Ironically i really liked the movie.
if anything this book makes you yern for a love from a man like john tyree. a love story that almost every one wants..except for the ending. noone likes a sad ending, but unfortunately thats the reality of everyday life. you dont love could be possible after 2 weeks until you read this book. it really comes to life for you. good book
I liked this book because I like books about romance. I saw the movie and decided I just had to read the book. The book was better than the movie, as expected. The book really caught my attention when Savanna got married and I thought for sure her and John would get back together at the end of the book when he finally came back.
Every time this book crosses my mind, I feel sad not only because of the bittersweet relationship of Savannah and John but also to what happened to John’s father. :<

I never cry at books and have never cried at a film but this book nearly bought me to tears. Love Nicolas Sparks books. I must mention I hated the ending. So glad they changed the ending in the movie, but even so I still believe the book is better then the film :)
I really liked the movie so I thought I would give the book a try. I have to say that I wish I read the book first because it is much better then the movie! Still like the movie but like must books-turned-into-movies, the book explains so much and it really grabs you.
Loved this book. I read the entire book in one sitting and then immediately went out to rent the movie. The book was so much better. The movie did not do it justice. Thank goodness for Channing Tatum's hot body though! ;)

I enjoyed my first Nicholas Sparks book. I read it before seeing the movie and have to say that they did an excellent job following the book. Channing Tatum presented a perfect choice for the role of John.
