In THE BIG TOWN, we follow Harry Hennesey, a floundering businessman, as he muses on his moral failings and sinking place in society. He is every man, struggling to turn his moral compass around and resist his desires for a young and pretty flapper, Pearl, who seems to need him just the same as his family now living hundreds of miles away.

Harry's romance with young Pearl is both dastardly and heartbreaking, as he and the reader are torn between his love for Pearl and his obligation to his wife a...more

I just finish "the Big Town" which I won from Goodreads. As usual, I feel like the plot is covered well elsewhere, so I will just summarize it by saying that salesman Henry Henessey leaves his wife and children and moves to the big city where he hopes to make enough money to give them a comfortable life. It's wasn't bad, but then again it was a little long winded for me. It had it's moment of thrill and delight, but overall not a bad read. Thanks for the book. I'll share with people that will really enjoy this book.

I received this book as an Advanced Readers Copy from Goodreads. I had a very hard time getting into the characters in The Big Town. It took me a long time to read as well. I couldn't find anyone in the book to like, descriptions were long and tiring. There are some interesting details about history and location but not enough to keep me interested.

Not at all what I was expecting. The start was interesting enough, but once you get ot the point they start seeing each other in a regular basis it gets weird and towards the last 70 pages just doesn't make sense and I hate open ended endings. You don't know for sure which path Harry takes or anything about Pearl....

I am struggling to read this book. I can easily put it down. I keep returning because I am interested in the characters and the plot, but I can easily be distracted. I hope to finish this soon.
