In THE BIG TOWN, we follow Harry Hennesey, a floundering businessman, as he muses on his moral failings and sinking place in society. He is every man, struggling to turn his moral compass around and resist his desires for a young and pretty flapper, Pearl, who seems to need him just the same as his family now living hundreds of miles away.

I just finish "the Big Town" which I won from Goodreads. As usual, I feel like the plot is covered well elsewhere, so I will just summarize it by saying that salesman Henry Henessey leaves his wife and children and moves to the big city where he hopes to make enough money to give them a comfortable life. Henry is a bit of a philanderer, and while in the city he meets a young girl named Pearl he falls for. He is later asked to assist with tracking down a different girl, named Olive. I got this book free through Goodreads.
Set at the end of the roaring 20's the book revolves around two main character.

While there he meets Pearl. A streetwise yet naive girl who just needs someone to love her. Only after Pearl disapp...more

I received this book as an Advanced Readers Copy from Goodreads. I had a very hard time getting into the characters in The Big Town. It took me a long time to read as well. I couldn't find anyone in the book to like, descriptions were long and tiring. There are some interesting details about history and location but not enough to keep me interested.
Not at all what I was expecting. The start was interesting enough, but once you get ot the point they start seeing each other in a regular basis it gets weird and towards the last 70 pages just doesn't make sense and I hate open ended endings. You don't know for sure which path Harry takes or anything about Pearl....

I am struggling to read this book. I can easily put it down. I keep returning because I am interested in the characters and the plot, but I can easily be distracted. I hope to finish this soon.
