I normally really like books by Susan Mallery, but this one seemed…busy for me.

I enjoyed the relationship between Nevada and Tucker and I didn’t mind the small parts dedicated to Nevada’s mom, but I became bored reading about Jo and Will and I had no interest in Cat.

Another wonderful visit to the “Land of Happy Endings”. This is the sixth in the Fool’s Gold series and the last of the Hendrix triplets stories. While, of course, you can read this as a stand alone I would not recommend it. This is a series that no one should miss and it is best to start in the beginning.

Love the sound of this town, close to the city and in the heart of the mountains and country and wine vineyards nearby.

Susan Mallery has done it again! While I didn't love this one as much as I loved Montana's story (Only Yours, I believe) I really did like this one a lot. Nevada's story has been a long time coming, and it was as good as I'd hoped for.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! I was so happy when this book came out and I was definately not disappointed at all! Most of my questions got answered and there was still one I had left in the end Is there going to be 3 more books for Charlie, Annabelle and Heidi?! I sure as hell hope so.

None of these Fool's Gold books get old and they don't get boring. Each one brings something new to the plate about the woman, man and town. It surprised me at every turn especially since we finally learn Jo's past! I think...more

This book was... odd. There were some great plot elements, but they went in really strange directions -- which unfortunately was not a sufficient distraction from the fact that the basic plot is the same one as the other books in this series. And the mix of serious and farcical felt uneasy and unbalanced to me.

Tucker wants Nevada to take the job, a local is always valuable on a job site, someone who knows the ropes and the rules, but to convince her he’s got to let the past go even though seeing her again is stirring up feelings he’s not happy about and the word lust comes to mind every time he sees her.
Susan Mallery has got this romance thing down to a science because I could not put this book down, plus you get more than one romance for your money as she brings us other couples tales as well in this one for the books contemporary romance. It’s a plot that’s sure to engage the true romance lover with the normal anxiety and angst with a little added bonus of that second chance at romance. Her dialogue is easy to read, easy to understand and will keep you turning those pages as fast as you can read them. Her characters are all impressive, all engaging and all imperative to the story. Her hero Tucker is a real guy’s guy and our heroine Nevada is a guy’s guy too although she has no trouble being female too. The love story is two worlds colliding impossible and super nova spectacular and you’ll be kept on the edge until the very end. The love scenes are sensual but tasteful.
Come back to Fools Gold for this last of the Hendrix triplets trilogy, reconnect with old friends from the fictional town and meet a few new ones as well. You don’t have to be an already fan to enjoy this but you will become one if this is your first visit. My suggestion is to read the trilogy in order for the best results, then if you haven’t get all the novels in the Fools Gold series.

Very good book. I liked the reunion of Tucker and Nevada. I wish she hadn't lied to him about their first encounter -- he deserved to suffer for that one. Susan Mallery consistently writes contemporary romances that I just love to read for an afternoon's escape. Her books are sweet, fun, romantic, witty, and always feature a wonderfully quirky cast of characters. The Fool's Gold series continues to delight my reader's mind. I just really love this series. This book is about Nevada, the last of the Hendrix triplets to find love. Her hero is Tucker, although it takes her a while to realize it. Tucker was one of Ethan's (Nevada's brother) friends and when she goes to college where Tucker lives, Ethan tells her to look Tucker up. That results in a friendship between Nevada, Tucker, and Tucker's girlfriend Cat. Tucker doesn't realize that Nevada actually has feelings for him, but Cat does, and in a twisted scheme, Cat "gifts" Nevada with Tucker. This results in the most horribly disappointing five minutes of Nevada's life. She hasn't seen him since until she walks into a job interview for her dream job ten years later. Needless to say, they have some issues that they need to work out.

Such a fun book. I love that the history between Nevada and Tucker is so embarrassingly horrifying for both of them. It makes it a really fun set-up for the book. But beyond that and before the romance truly starts to develop, I like that Tucker & Nevada develop a true friendship and comradery both at work and outside of it. They both have their faults and have both made mistakes in their history, but these are definitely two people that you can like and cheer for as a reader.

There are also some fabulous side stories in this one...the romance between Will & Jo, Nevada's mom & Max (OMG, I don't know if I have ever laughed as hard as I did when Nevada walked in on them), and even the addition of Cat and her mixed up sexuality. It was such a fun book to read. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments and I read this on a day where I was really sick and miserable, so that is saying something.

This has been such a fun series. I have loved getting to know the triplets this summer. I am so glad that we get three more installments of it next summer. Whooohooo!!!

Ten years ago Nevada was away from home about to start college and feeling like a fish out of water. It was the first time in her life that she wasn’t living at home and worse, it was her first attempt at being apart from her sisters. Her brother Ethan tells her to look up his old friend Tucker Janack who lives in town so she can at least have one familiar face while she settles into her new life. The first time she meets with him is love at first sight, but only for her. Tucker is infatuated to the point of obsession with a famous artist and only sees Nevada as the little girl he used to know. When Nevada finds that the artist left Tucker, she goes to console him and what she finds is a very drunk and heartbroken Tucker who ends up taking her virginity. And just when Nevada thinks he finally loves her, Tucker calls the artist’s name in the worst possible moment. Talk about humiliation…

Fast forward to the present and the Janack’s construction company is about to embark in the very ambitious task of creating a casino and hotel complex in Fool’s Gold. Nevada wants to expand her horizons and leaves her work with her brother to apply for a job at the construction site thinking that the person in charge will be Tucker’s father, but she ends up face to face with Tucker. This makes for a very awkward job interview and even though Tucker wants to work with Nevada and is somewhat sorry for what happened (he doesn’t quite remember all the facts) she is reticent about it. She ends up agreeing but will she be able to let go of the past in order to establish a good working relationship? And what about the current attraction they are both feeling? Evidently the road to the happy ending is a rocky one.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the premise and I like stories where the main characters share a past because that way when they fall in love it’s easier for me to believe that they can have such deep feelings in such a short period of time. In this particular case that shared history was cringeworthy, we get some flashbacks that show us what happened between Nevada and Tucker and all the time I was feeling so sorry for her. She was eighteen and in love with this dreamy guy who is obsessed with someone else, and of course once the guy shows a slight interest in her, even if that interest is a drunken groping, she interprets it like love, and her naïveté was hard for me to read because it was realistic and I could actually relate to her. And then I couldn’t even be mad at Tucker because he was young and naïve as well, so in this case everyone suffers and no one is to blame. This whole situation made me feel like I was in a love/hate relationship with the book, because I loved this new take on the jilted lover trope, but I felt uncomfortable while reading it.

My biggest issue with the book was the hero. I couldn’t connect with him and the fact that he was emotionally unavailable and hell-bent on never falling in love again was ridiculous. He was old enough to realize that what happened to him wasn’t love. He was in a sick and unhealthy relationship based on obsession, and he should know that at the time he was young and inexperienced, just like Nevada, and that he was in over his head when he got involved with that person. Overall I just didn’t care for him, is not that I disliked him, is just that I wasn’t emotionally invested in his story, he lacked the charisma and personality that Mallery’s heroes usually have. Maybe I just wanted more groveling on his part even when I understand that he didn’t really have reasons to grovel.

I did love Nevada and I was happy to see her get her happy ending. Of all the three sisters she’s the one I was more interested to see happy, I was sorry for what happened to her and I felt her pain when she had to be an outsider looking into her sister’s happiness and feeling very lonely while doing it. I admired her for toughing it up and showing unconditional support to her sisters even if she was feeling sad and a little jealous. I think Mallery did a great job at creating a flawed heroine who was strong and good. I know I said I didn’t particularly liked the hero but I must admit that Tucker and Nevada made sense as a couple, one of the things I liked about the book (and there were several despite of what may seem) was that their current relationship was as uncomplicated as their past relationship was complicated. The love story has a nice steady flow and is quite drama-free considering their history, even when the evil ex returns, they deal with it quite easily.

I was happy to see that Jo the bartender, a character who’s been present ever since book one in the original trilogy and who had a mysterious past, finally gets her shot at love and we finally get to see her backstory. All the loose ends get tied up, you will see what happens to the triplet’s mom and we also get to meet the heroines for the next books, three very interesting women who couldn’t be more different from one another.

Overall it was an engaging story. Even if I had some problems with it I read it in one night because I couldn’t stop, the ending was corny but I wasn’t surprised by it and you know it’s coming because throughout the book we get clues about it. I would recommend this book only if you are a fan of the series, if this is your first introduction to Susan Mallery, then maybe you should start with a different one. I don’t think this book stands alone quite as well as the previous two, mostly because it’s the final one, and I think all the books in the series should be read in order to get the whole Fool’s Gold experience.

I enjoyed Nevada's story but was a little disappointed that Jo's story didn't get a separate book. It seemed a bit rushed and precipitate and Jo deserved more time and attention. So did Will. I really, really liked this installment. Tucker has unseated Josh as my favorite Fool's Gold character. He's charming, funny and at times a bit of smart ass, but someone you fall for. It was almost as if there wasn't anything you couldn't forgive him for. Even when he was determined to stay single so he didn't end up that pathetic guy begging for a woman's love, you still knew you'd give in and welcome him back with open arms.

Nevada fell under Tucker's spell. Of course, having that soul mate connection, I think she knew she wasn't going to be mad at him about anything for long (which she didn't). But she was able to stand her ground with him (and the other guys on her construction crew) when she needed to. Something that proved to both of them that while she may forgive him, he wasn't going to get away with a lot.

The secondary stories with Will / Jo and Denise / Max were great. I dare anyone not to sympathize with Nevada and the kitchen scene with Denise and Max. I believe I'm with Nevada on this one!

If you want a story where you find yourself laughing out loud, cringing or tearing up at a characters heartbreak, then this is one for you.(less)

my slight problem here is that the author wasn't able to clearly show that in the book - the back story focused more on tucker's obsession with cat, and how much nevada is so in love with tucker. we only get to find out that tucker and nevada were actually good friends when we read about tucker thinking of nevada in the current time. i also didn't feel that tucker and nevada really had much in common other than their work because most of their interactions were at work or in bed (and once at a family dinner).

their issue was resolved pretty quickly (i dont know if that's good or bad) - it wasn't too dramatic - tucker clearly was the problem and he had to resolve it on his own (well, with a little help from his dad). they spent the whole book not having that "talk" and when nevada finally put it out there, tucker just left. there weren't even arguments or discussion. then one chapter later, he came to his senses and went back.

another issue i have with this book is that there were too many side stories that distract the readers' attention from the main couple. and i think maybe this is why some parts felt rushed, like she tried to squeeze in so many stories but then she ran out of chapters.
- jo and will: their story was fine, i liked them both. i was curious with jo's secret and i felt as shocked as will when i found out. i did get annoyed a little bit at will (same as to how jo felt) when he said he loves her and he'll accept her but when he found out, he got angry and left. however, he did came back to jo to apologize and explain how he felt. instead of jo understanding will's perspective, she lashed out at him (which i also thought was so unfair of her - what she did in the past was really wrong and the fact that will even came back to accept her clearly shows how much he loves her)... then on the next page, we see jo running after will and they end up happy together. another rushed resolution.

- denise and max: didn't really care much about them, their story could have been told in another book or not at all.

- montana and dakota: i agree with heidi, annabelle and charlie, 2 of them are getting married and wants a double wedding yet they didn't even think about how nevada would have felt.

- heidi, annabelle, charlie: i was able to read charlie's story first so im guessing the three were introduced in this book for future release

- cat: how i hate her. i understand why she was back in the story. to show that tucker has no feelings for her anymore. however, they didn't even meet taht much. it was mostly about cat and nevada and her artsy weirdness and her arrogance. i didn't really see the point of her story if she wasn't there to mess up nevada and tucker's relationship. and her girl-on-girl thing with nevada seemed forced. basically really didn't care about her and i just skipped most of her parts.

- all the other characters like mayor martha, the lady archaeologist, the lady cop -- dont really care about them.

overall, if we just focus on nevada and tucker, this book was fun to read. the side stories could have been shortened or given their own novella.(less)

Okay the book's great but there wasn't anything more then the usual plot. But it managed to keep me hooked up enough that I can't put it down till I fished it . This is my favorite if the 2011 Fool’s Gold books. I fell hard for Tucker. He’s a charmer with a sense of humor and a low jerk quotient, and even when he runs from commitment, it doesn’t take him long to see his wrongheadedness. Nevada is a strong heroine, a risk-taker who excels in a male-dominated profession and addresses her relationship with Tucker with a refreshing directness. When Nevada was eighteen years old and away at college, her older brother Ethan gave her the name and number of a childhood friend who would show her around and help her if she ever needed it. Nevada wasn't really planning on using the number but when Ethans asks, she caves and gives him a call. She wasn't expecting Tucker to remember her or even be excited to see her but when she's proven wrong on that front, Nevada agrees to meet him and from then on out, she was never the same.

Nevada fell hard for Tucker but he had a girlfriend. He had a girlfriend named Cat who was everything Nevada wasn't and he was obsessed with her. He had no eyes for Nevada and even though hanging out with him hurt like hell, she couldn't stop herself from seeing him. When Cat and Tucker break up, Nevada goes to him and Tucker dicks her over and that was the last she saw of him until ten years later when he comes storming back into Fool's Gold, heading up a job that has Nevada salivating at the mouth for.

The romance between Tucker and Nevada was my absolute favorite part of this book. It was so easy to fall into their story and to be anxious for more from these two. Whether we're learning about their past or watching them in the present, I enjoyed that part of the book. I loved seeing Tucker going soft on Nevada and seeing Nevada fight her attraction for Tucker. I loved how up front Tucker was about his attraction to Nevada and the way that he went after her was so freaking sexy.

My issues with this book was all of the corniness from the other people in this book. Will and Jo's secondary romance left a lot to be desired from me. I wanted to like it but it was just okay. Will's reaction to Jo's confession had me rolling my eyes down the street. I thought it was so dumb and then every time they talked to each other, I could see the cheese oozing from their mouths. It was like that with everyone in this series and it makes me sad because I think I'm done with this series after this one. I don't think I can take anymore of this happy, happy, joy, joy crap that's going around Fool's Gold.

The whole Cat and the giant vagina thing was another thing that I didn't feel added anything to the story. It could have been left out and I probably would have enjoyed the story more. Cat's part in this book should have been small and making her have lesbian feelings for Nevada did nothing but make me think, "WTF?" over and over again.

My issues weren't with the main romance between Tucker and Nevada. I adored the two of them and watching them grow to love each other. It was all the other stuff going on around that made me want to throw up because there was just too much. All these pregnancies, all of these engagements and then the triple wedding? It was just too freaking much and even though I knew the triple wedding was coming (because how could you not?), I knew that I was done with this series. I know that there are more books in the work because there's Charlie, Annabelle and Heidi wanting their own men and I don't think I can sit through more cheesiness.

I think I enjoy my small town romances in threes. This series hooked me with six but I think I'm done with this series for now. I spent most of this book, rolling my eyes and complaining to Ames and Izzy. I mean, I know that eventually everyone gets married and what not but why can't a happy for now ending be okay from time to time? Especially if the couple isn't even the main couple. I know that we got that with Denise and Max but still, it didn't feel the same.

The romance between Tucker and Nevada was great, it was everything I hoped for Nevada and Tucker was everything I was excited for and I'm glad that I got to know him. He was one of those sexy heroes that I adore and while he made some bonehead moves at the end, I still loved him.

Overall, the romance was great but the rest that came with it- I could have done without so for the romance alone, I'm giving this book the grade that I'm giving it.

3.5 stars. I liked this one ok, but I'm wondering if I need a break from Fool's Gold for a bit. The whole Denise/Max thing was a little anticlimactic. The big surprise was Jo, and I was glad for her that she got her life back on track and found real love. I did want to smack Will, even after he justified his reasons for walking away from her.

Likewise with the Cat plot - I couldn't figure out why Nevada would consider her a friend, knowing what she did 10 years before, let alone in the present. I did like that Tucker was taking care of Mayor Marsha's statue problem at the end, though, LOL. I also liked when he said, "She told me she loves me. What the hell am I doing here with you?"

Like I said, I'm sort of starting to feel like it's been Fool's Gold overload, because the plots are starting to feel thin. The other ones might have been too, but I noticed it less before. Or maybe it is that the characters are getting weaker and the scene is too familiar so those details aren't feeling fresh and exciting.

I think the thing that bugs me most about the Fool's Gold stories is that all the heroines fall for guys with lots of money (or the means to get it)...Tour de France winner, Josh; construction company owner, Ethan; former Pro Quarterback, Raoul (haven't read it, but I know the basic story and it's up next); pilot/cargo company owner, Finn (the least wealthy and most normal); renowned plastic surgeon, Simon; and now billionheir, Tucker. Don't get me wrong; I know it's supposedly the dream, to marry a 'prince' and live 'happily ever after', which means in comfort, and money brings that. But despite the character flaws of these people, there is never any current hardship. All the women are pretty successful on their own and their prince results in making their lives even better, the one piece that was missing being their true love. So, if you're not into that sort of story, skip this. I can only hope that Charlie, Annabelle and Heidi's stories result in more average, normal guys like Will (you picked up that they were the next full-length stories, right?)

Personally, I think that I love contemporaries most when the main characters are ordinary people or at least ones that seem like they could really exist. I suppose I've come to realize that if I want to read Susan Mallery stories, I have to be willing to forgo the 'real' people. While reading them in shorter bursts (say, at the time they were published) might help me not to feel like the stories are hard to believe or shallow, that doesn't change the fact that it's true. I did like the story and it was a quick read. But reading her stuff makes me feel like I'm reading grown up versions of the Sweet Valley High books I read as a teen...mostly fluff. That's ok, and since I'm filling the time until Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner is available from the library (I'm next on the list! YAY!), I'm perfectly willing to read fluffy stuff. This was the quickest read of all the Fool's Gold stories for me, but maybe it's because I've read so many lately that I was skimming bits that I knew were not crucial.(less)

Fans of the Fool's gold series will be happy to know this book does not disappoint. It is in the same fashion as the other books, so no surprise in style or happenings, but that's the beauty of Fool's Gold. Fans read to have a nice romance with tension and obstacles to the main characters falling in love.

When I read my first Susan Mallery book Only Mine just a while back I was fascinated. It was an awesome read and I couldn’t believe I’d never tried Mallery before. She’s more of a romance author than a Chick Lit author, but since I’m a sucker for a good love story and Mallery is very contemporary, it was the perfect combination. It was an awesome read and I couldn’t believe I’d never tried Mallery before. She’s more of a romance author than a Chick Lit author, but since I’m a sucker for a good love story and Mallery is very contemporary, it was the perfect combination. Only His is the latest novel in the Fool’s Gold series (and the third of three to feature the Hendrix triplets Nevada, Dakota and Montana) and I couldn’t wait to dive in, despite having to put it aside for a week due to illness.

Only His is somewhat similar to its predecessor Only Mine. I presume Mallery uses the same formula for each novel, where there are obstacles to overcome before the heroine can get her guy and where the entire town continue to band together (I’m totally heading to Fool’s Gold to live). In this instance, Dakota Hendrix is our heroine, and she’s much pluckier than her sisters, working on a construction site. She hasn’t seen Tucker Janack for years, so when she ends up being interviewed by him for a job at Janack Constructions, she isn’t entirely sure it’s the job for her any more. However Tucker and Nevada decide on a business only relationship. But as they say, all the best decisions never really come to fruition…

As well as focusing on Nevada, as she’s the central character, there’s also a lovely smaller plotline featuring Jo, who runs the female-only bar in Fool’s Gold. I loved Jo, and I really really enjoyed her storyline and I wish it had had more to it. I’d quite happily read an entire novel dedicated to Jo, as she’s such an awesome character. I really loved the storylines in the book, though I still think Montana’s story is the best (Only Mine, if you want to read it). I liked the banter between Nevada and Tucker, liked the friendships between the residents of Fool’s Gold and I loved the sisterly bond Nevada, Montana and Dakota share. I also liked the addition of Cat, I thought she was going to screw the novel up, but she wasn’t so bad.

Mallery has really tapped in to Fool’s Gold. She’s made it sound like such a wonderful place, somewhere you’d want to live. The way all the residents band together, the way Mayor Marsha knows EVERYTHING about EVERYONE, it’s just so cosy. I mean, not only has she given a lot of the residents stories, but they all follow each other on and it’s so good to catch up with previous characters even if I’ve not read their stories yet. Obviously the core story is that of Nevada and Tucker and it was thoroughly enjoyable. I like that Mallery doesn’t waste time getting her characters together and it doesn’t just happen at the end of the novel. It’s so appealing and refreshing.

I loved Only His. It rounded off the Hendrix trio stories perfectly (even if I haven’t read Dakota’s story…). Mallery even set up a new Fool’s Gold trilogy for Heidi, Annabelle and Charlie (I sooooooo hope those three will get stories, I loved them in Only His). Only His was warm, romantic, enjoyable, immensely readable and it was also funny. (Oh God, when Nevada walks in on Denise and Max…) Mallery is an excellent writer, thoroughly skilled at making us love her characters and believe in her stories and at making me want to move to California. I can’t wait for what Mallery writes next and I really hope this isn’t the end of Fool’s Gold. Like I said, there are at least three more stories in it! At least, I tell you! Mallery’s well worth reading, you won’t regret it in the slightest.(less)

I found this to be very boring and predictable. The author kept repeating an incident that happened 10 years before the story takes place. While it's an important incident to the story, bringing it up once or twice would have been sufficient, but it has to be rehashed multiple times, thus creating boredom.
