Cari Quinn’s, Hot Text, is most certainly that, a very hot read. This is a story of two average, everyday normal people who meet under some unusual circumstances and then proceed to light the sheets on fire.

Cari Quinn creates very sexy novellas and this one was no exception. I understand that some people may find Karyn’s marital status objectionable in a romance, but I had no qualms about it. As far as I was concerned, she was separated and he was sleeping with another woman. This gave Karyn a clear path to do whatever the hell she wanted in my eyes. Lonny (the ex) had made her feel like she wasn’t worth anything and that she wasn’t good in the whole bedroom department. I loved the fact that she responded to the sexy text, that she took that risk. Once she experienced sex with a skilled lover, she realised that it was Lonny who was the flop in the bedroom. Jeff was attentive, skilled and seemed to enjoy the fact that he was with her; he made her feel like a sexy woman. Jeff had a slightly rougher edge which always appeals to me . He wanted her, so he pursued her. He was quite sexually aggressive (yum!) and showed her what sex should really be like. It was sexy and, quite frankly, so erotically charged it made me a little clammy 

Overall, this was a sexy little number that kept me clicking the pages till the end. The raunchy sex kept me entertained and the epilogue at the end gave me some warm and fuzzies to balance it all out. A recommended read.

The synopsis of Hot Text gives an excellent overview of the plot of this erotic novella but what it doesn’t reflect is Cari Quinn’s wonderful witty prose and dialogue which had this reader smiling and laughing on a number of occasions.

Hero Jeff isn’t a people person. He edits technical manuals for a living and prefers to use words in the written form to conversing with other human beings. He does however love his sister Daisy and wants the best for her. So when she gets mixed up with married Lonny, Jeff is less then impressed with his sister’s choice of A partner. The fact that “Lon” indicates he is separated from his wife doesn’t reassure Jeff in the least even though he is twice divorced and doesn’t have much faith in marriage as an institution. I really liked Jeff, he is honest, calls a spade-a-spade, doesn’t make excuses for his love for and use of profanity, he is just darn appealing. Jeff discovers Lon has left his cell phone behind at his sister’s, which presents the perfect opportunity to meddle. Jeff uses the cell phone to text Lon’s estranged wife asking her to meet him so it can be returned.

“Why do you have Lon’s phone?”

Again that long silence. She should have found it creepy. Odd silences, probing
stares and strange meeting circumstances added up to bad news. Especially when they
all originated from a guy who claimed to be her husband’s friend but seemed to know
little about their personal situation.

“He left it behind.”

“Behind where?”

“Why are you divorcing?” he asked, shifting only a fraction when a couple entered
the shop and attempted to sidestep him.

“Here, why don’t we sit down.” She returned to the table behind her, hoping he’d
follow.

He did, but only after what seemed to be great deliberation. He pulled a chair out
and dropped into it, spreading his long jean-clad legs wide without any thought to her
personal space. A new scent drifted over her as he settled, one more intimate than
coffee or peppermint or the wet smell of drying wool.

Him. Hot, male, potent. No aftershave or cologne, just skin and sweat. She wouldn’t
have been surprised if her nose twitched.

She’d clearly gone too long without male companionship if any brute who walked
her way made her sit up and take notice. Even one with pretty eyes and scowling lips.
And firm thighs snugly encased in nearly threadbare denim. She’d noticed that too.

“You asked why we’re divorcing,” she said, reaching for her empty cup. She
stretched her fingers around the leftover warmth and wished she hadn’t drunk it so fast. She would’ve appreciated the diversion. “You’d probably be better off asking him,
though I have my opinions. He wanted children. I didn’t produce any. Then when he
decided to make up for the lack by changing our lifestyle, he became bored with me.

Jeff’s jaw slackened for an instant before he recovered. Had she shocked him?

Good. She liked having the power to do that to someone. It had been a very long time since she’d said or done anything unexpected.

Karyn isn’t a woman who would normally agree to meet a stranger for coffee, no matter what the reason. However, without internalizing or accepting it she ready to turn the corner in her life and, as it turns out, Jeff Maddox is the catalyst. Karyn hasn’t emotionally dealt with the fact that her marriage of 10 years has ended. She is resolved to the fact that her relationship with her husband has fallen apart but is trying to be very civilized about the whole thing. Karyn hasn’t made any demands. She hasn’t grieved.

After working through initial discomfort and some surliness on Jeff’s part, he and Karyn find they are comfortable conversing and enjoy each other’s company. Moreover, there is a magnetic sexual attraction and explosive chemistry. I thought these two were perfect together, while Jeff has by choice lead a pretty solitary existence he proves to be a passionate, sexually experienced man who is exactly what Karyn needs to set her leashed sexuality free. Over a short 12 hours Jeff develops respect and admiration for a woman who he finds is extremely strong and amazingly responsive. They just fit..

However, the timing is bad and Karyn has significant emotional fallout to deal with following their tryst. Jeff recognizes Karyn’s need to work out her many issues before they can pursue any sort of relationship. In an emotional scene they say goodbye, and I along with Jeff so hoped Karyn would want to see him again.

I thoroughly enjoyed Hot Text, finding it to be a clever, very sensual erotic romance. The love scenes in Hot Text are sexually explicit. Never fear, Cari Quinn does provide a special, heartwarming HEA for this hero and heroine who met under such unusual circumstances. Oh and BTW the text messages in Hot Text are full of fun innuendo and HOT!

I’ll admit that I was a little worried about this book. I am not a fan of cheaters. Never have been, never will be, and every time I’ve read it I get annoyed and frustrated. With this novella, it’s obvious that neither Lonny or Karyn has any hope of this relationship going further. The divorce papers are in the works, but not filed yet.

That made me feel a little better. But I’ll admit that the one thing that really had me being on board with this was the way that Quinn handled the “morning after.” Yes, Lonny stopped by. Yes, Jeff got jealous and annoyed. Yes, Karyn became confused as to what she wanted and where she was at in life. But instead of Karyn and Jeff settling, they both did what they wanted, despite the consequence at that exact moment. I liked that, I liked that they thought about the future and not just in the moment. It really did make the book that much better for me.

The sexy times in this book were pretty hot. Jeff isn’t afraid to get a little down and dirty, and he is more than willing to show Karyn the ropes. But despite the fact that they got down and dirty they also had a really sweet moment together too. I loved how caring they were to each other while doing the painting, and how erotic it was in all it’s simplicity. I think I might have to go out and buy some nontoxic body paints now….

All in all I thought this was a well done novella. It is short, but it also is sexy, emotional and does not rush anything. I was happy with the choices that Quinn made and the direction of the story.
I give Hot Text a B-(less)

Simple overview: One incredibly hot, sexy night after a chance encounter where two soul mates meet, but the timing is just not where it needs to be.

Whoa, this book was good and so powerful. There was something about these two characters that I simply connected with...both of them. Jeff & Karyn are two people that have that instant connection that everyone dreams about. They just mesh perfectly.

My first read of Cari Quinn's books and I am very happy I took the opportunity to do so. I truly enjoyed her writing and boy, can she write smexy, hot scenes.

Jeff Maddox, twice divorced, is a book editor and big brother to Daisy who is dating a recently separated man (Lon). As a big brother, he steps in to interfere in his sister affair hoping to end it. After Jeff found Lon's phone, he thought to call his wife to inform her of his activities. Eeeeevil right? But the plot to end that affair backfired. Instead, it leads him to an affair of his own, an affair to remember and one never to regret.

Karyn, who is in a middle of a divorce, receives a text from a stranger wanting to return her husbands' phone. Willing and very curious she meets him for coffee. However, Karyn is already aware of Lon's activity and not a bit bothered by it. They had fallen out of love a while back. Funny how things work out that way. =D

It started out with a single text, a cup of coffee together, smexy texts then a "booty call". Their texts and conversations were full of sexual innuendos, which was fun to read. I love a good flirty couple. And in spite of just having met, both Karyn and Maddox were comfortable exploring each other.

Divorce is never easy and finding someone new is hard to do. This sounds like a very plausible story as we live in a world were divorce is a rising status, not always a bad thing, But I do want to say that I applaud anyone who can survive a divorce and rise up to cont. to believe love is still a possibility for them.

Just like our H/h, without taking a chance, they wouldn't have found their HEA. And in spite of this book being too short, Ms. Quinn leaves us with a very satisfying ending.
No doubt that I will continue to read more of Ms Quinn's work!

Hot Text by Cari Quinn is an erotic novella about two people who don’t know each other, but learn a lot about the other in one night of very hot sex. Although Jeff’s profession sounds a little more on the nerdy side, and he is not a people person, he has quite an edge to him. A little rough and dirty. He doesn’t really bring warm fuzzies to the relationship (or at least to the one night of sex) but I kind of liked that about him. His harder edge definitely appealed to me.

Karyn is absolutely sure she wants to get divorced, but it is still a big step for her. She hasn’t worked out all of the details quite yet and so I’m glad that the author puts in a big jump forward at the end. Karyn is definitely not ready to just jump into another relationship to start. I do wish maybe this book had been a bit longer to analyze Karyn’s issues more. I also think these two feel very familiar with each other quite quick. Especially when they first meet in the coffee shop, their dialogue felt a little off. They bring up vibrators and orgasms – topics that just seemed abrupt for strangers. Although, I suppose it set the mood for subsequent sexin’

Overall though I liked this novella. I think Jeff’s edgy demeanor made it work for me.

First let me say that I love the cover! It is so freaking hot! Second, I love that Jeff isn't your typical hero. He doesn't have smooth moves, he has a potty mouth (and is downright crude at times) and he'd rather be surrounded by books than be around a bunch of people.

I have loved some of Cari Quinn's stories, and while I liked this one, I didn't love it. I liked the premise, but it seemed to move too fast for me. With Jeff, Karyn gets what she wanted in the form of a hot and steamy one night stand. One night where she can let go of her inhibitions and be the woman she has caged inside. And it all started with a little hot text….

I have never been a lover of the one night stands. Sure, back in my younger days I may (or may NOT if my mother or my husband is reading this) have had my share of flings. Erotic nights of passion? Probably more like nights of drunken bliss. But yeah, you get me. The one night stand has never appealed to me in the long run. I find it highly doubtful that the person you wake up next to the next morning with a raging hangover, is meant to be “the one”. More like “OMG what the hell is that THING over there and did I sleep with it”.

In Hot Text we meet Karyn and Jeff, two dysfunctional people that crave some attention. Karyn has a horrible self esteem problem brought on by years of a loveless marriage and a cheating husband. Jeff, a moody guy that is way to involved in his sister’s love life and not paying attention to why he’s been racking up his own broken marriages. When Jeff finds Lonny’s (Karyns hubby) cell phone he thinks he will get back at the guy balling his baby sister by informing the wife of her husbands charades. When they meet though, the sparks fly and later that night he is sending her naughty texts and asking for a booty call. Which she agrees to because she is so blown away that Jeff finds her attractive. What follows is some seriously smoking hot sex scenes involving paint and wine amongst other things. The problem for me lies in the connection. I just didn’t feel any. The sex was hot. The prop usage was WOWIE. The writing was good. I just didn’t get why they were so into each other. The mystery maybe…the spontaneity perhaps. I felt superficial heat between them but nothing that would cement their involvement with each other. Then the next morning Jeff starts wanting more. While I found it a bit funny that the guy was wanting more it did give him brownie point in my eyes. What blew me away is that he said he’d give her time and he actually did. Not just a few days, a week, until her divorce was finalized. Nope, he gives her a YEAR. What? Say again? I’m saying to myself, I don’t care how great that sex was, I’m not waiting a year for anyone to get their act together. Kinda made him seem sad that he’d be able to give her a year. That he has nothing else to do but wait for her to get her life together.

While I did love the heat associated with this novella, I think, in this case, the length hurt it. It wasn’t long enough for me to get invested or to care about the characters emotions.

For the heat infused storyline I am giving Hot Text by Cari Quinn 3 stars! (less)

I loved that Karyn, the heroine in this book, was a strong female character and she stood up to her soon-to-be ex-husband. She also took time to make sure she and Jeff had a future together after their quick, initial get together. This was a fun and sexy story and I would recommend it to readers.

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this short story. I love the idea of a big brother over stepping his bounds only to find himself in way over his head. A woman learning to move on and finding that with the right timing and the right guy anything is possible.
