A deadly influenza virus rages out of control. There is no easy-fix vaccine. No eleventh-hour containment. Only death.
With no workforce, power plants are unmanned so there’s no means of communication; police and fire departments have collapsed so no one is safe; looters are scavenging everything from big-screen TVs to canned peas.

Cornelius has created a world that while not necessarily unqiue or special, it was one that was rather compelling, due mainly to the authors polished and well formualized writing technique. The writing was pretty great and it was what kept me going through parts of the book that were not my favorite.
The first have of the book was great! It really enjoyed discovering the world and it really seemed liked the PA world filled with all the doubt and fright that one would acutally experience, but the...more

It took me a while to get into this book, I wont lie. About half way through I realized that it wasnt the book that I didnt like, it was the situation. I'm pretty sure I got this book quite a while ago as a freebie, and when I was going through my TBR I saw it and assumed it was about zombies. I like reading about the zombie apocalypse, so why wouldnt I enjoy reading about a flu pandemic that wipes out countries? I dont like something that I cant fight! You CAN fight zombies, but you CANT fight...more
From my Amazon review:
I had about a half dozen novels lurking in my Kindle, waiting for me to read. I opened them all and read the first few pages to get a sense of which would be a great read. When I got to H10N1 I found myself a dozen pages in before I even knew it. Done deal. This was the one.
There are quite a few post-apocalyptic novels out there, to be sure. Any number of these should be able to hold the interest of anyone into the genre. This book does a whole lot more than hold your inter...more

I downloaded this book quite a while ago, and I’m really happy I did. It turned out to be such a fantastic and enjoyable read!
Most of the books I’ve been reading lately had paranormal elements in the story, so reading “H10 N1” which has no supernatural creatures or beings or anything paranormal in the story line, was a welcome relief. The plot is quite original in that the virus in this story was manmade and spread by the Koreans. What made it an even more gripping and nerve-wracking read is the...more

This book grabbed me right from the start and just did not let up. I loved the style of writing. It flowed well and was easy to read. As the story opens, Dr. Taeya Sanchez, an epidemiologist with the CDC, is summarily dismissed, services no longer needed in a world of disintegrating societal structure; as society teeters on the brink of annihilation. She plans to steal transportation and make her way across the country to her friend in Arizona. The friend is a member of a scientific team living...more
Solid three-and-a-half star must read for PA fans!
I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic thrillers, especially when they're free. So when M.R. Cornelius' H10N1 popped up on Kindle's Top 100 Free Books list I snatched it up faster than you can say bird flu. Despite the snatching, it then languished on my Kindle for a while until I got in the mood for the gloom and doom of a world ravaged by disease and social collapse. Yes, I actually DO get in the mood for that occasionally -- go figure.

Dr. Taeya Sanchez doesn't think much of Rick DeAngelo at first. In fact he disgusts her. While she is working her ass off to continue to provide treatment to the ill rather than just pass out suicide pills in the only hospital operating in NYC, one of the last on the East Coast, he thinks he's above the rest. He doesn't bother to wear his uniform and he gets away with it, too, being the best the hospital has to scour the broken city and beyond for supplies in the throes of the worst virus Americ...more
When Kim first asked me to review H10N1 by M.R. Cornelius, I was definitely excited. Not only was it a book that was a post-apocalyptic thriller, which is right up my alley, but it was also about a deadly strain of the influenza virus. For those of you who don’t know, I work for a company that researches influenza and is producing a seasonal and pandemic vaccine. So, not only was I excited to read this book for its genre, but I was also excited because it’s about a subject near and dear to my he...more
BEC'S REVIEW
This book starts by jumping into the story mid infection. The disease has already ravaged much of the world and now we are left with the after effect of gangs, looting and every man for himself. As such it is not a story of disease but one of survival in a world turned upside down. The first few chapters of the book set up this world before we move into the meat of the story, Taeya’s dismissal and as a result her and Rick being thrown together as they both try to escape.

It happened. The pandemic was worse than predicted. Korean Flu killing at a rapid pace after some people went into heavily populated areas and sprayed the flu around like perfume. Fires, looting and killing became a way of life. Hugs incinerators were set up to deal with all of the dead. A suicide hotline was set up to HELP people commit suicide before the flu killed them. Taeya Sanchez was an epidemiologist with the CDC. She'd been asked to come to New York to work as a doctor sorting people. T...more

There is just no way to say how disappointing this book was. While the beginning showed promise and the idea of what would happen in the wake of a global pandemic had the makings of a good plot, this story line started getting less and less interesting about a third of a way through the book when it became clear that the pandemic was no longer the focus of the story.

I personally do not have a set genre that I will read book's from. I will admit that I like certain genre's more than others but I do not have a personal favorite. I will admit that this is book is in one of my favorite genre so the follow review may be a little bias if so please forgive me.

It was pretty much predetermined that I would like this book. It has a few key things that I really love in my books. Pandemic that kills off a huge percentage of the population? Check. A social/economical/political collapse? Yep. A fight for survival against natural and human elements? Um, yes. (That actually sounds pretty morbid that I like all that :) I am happy to say that H10N1 came through and delivered on my high hopes.

This was my pick for the WorldLitCafe review this month and I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this book. The story opens with doctor Taeya Sanchez, who is working with the CDC to try to stop a new flu pandemic. This particular flu has been biologically engineered to wipe out most of the human race. After she loses her position at the hospital, she decides to sneak away in the middle of the night. While trying to steal a van, she unexpectedly meets a rogue supply runner with plans to s...more
I love these types of stories. This one was no exception. It was a really interesting read, and was original enough that I didn't think at any point 'I've read this before!'
The author quite successfully takes the subject matter and makes it new and fresh. It was believable in the way it was written, and although we all hope that nothing like this will ever happen, we are all too ready to believe it might.

This was a well written fast paced book. I enjoyed the characters who were all well developed as well as the plot. I didn't quite believe the romance portion of it because the author spent too much time try to convince us how much Taeya and Rob hated each other and then all of a sudden they were in love...yeah, right. Besides that though, I was glad they ended up together and that he protected her. I loved that they went to pick up their hippie friends and lived in a biodome and their quest to f...more
In H10N1, synthetic plagues rip the world apart, resulting in the hopeless, gradual implosion of America. As the nation collapses and the elites bunker down in well-stocked medical facilities, a female epidemiologist who loses her job connects with a “guy who get things done” type who has his own plans for riding things out. The result is an unlikely collaboration and road trip across what’s left of America, fighting bandits and crazies in an effort to find a safe place. The guy who gets things...more

When Dr. Taeya Sanchez mouths off a few too many times to her boss, she knows she is getting ready to be fired. Unfortunately, the entire population is infected with a deadly virus and she doesn't have very many options. Just one, actually. Fill up a stolen truck with as many supplies and food as she can get and hope to make it somewhere safe before either getting caught, killed or catching the disease herself. The only problem with her plan? She is now stuck road tripping with the ego-maniac Ri...more
Ever wonder what all the fuss was about when bird-flu/swine-flu first made the rounds? Was it paranoia? Or pharmaceutical companies trying to make a quick buck? Did you watch Contagion and think ‘what if they didn’t develop a vaccine in time?’ or ‘what if it were more transferable?’ The saving grace for most pandemics is that they often start at a single spot and can be controlled to some extent by quarantine methods and this novel deals with the consequences when this isn’t the case.

Fairly run-of-the-mill dystopian tale. The world succumbs to a deadly virus attack and our heroes have to survive in a naughty world. This is nothing special. Plot is average and character development is minimal. Neither Rick nor Taeya have enough depth (or indeed width) to make you wish there was a sequel. The writing is perfectly competent and decently edited.
One thing about this is that it is not all plain sailing for the good guys. Too many stories fail to put decent obstacles in the way of...more

H10N1 is the first novel by M.R. Cornelius. Cornelius had first tried her hand at romance novels and using her own words, was a "dismal failure". But she did, "increase her repertoire of adjectives such as throbbing, pulsing, thrumming, vibrating, hammering, pumping". H10N1 is a post-apocalyptic thriller about a flu pandemic. If you've seen Contagion then you have an idea of what you are in for. I have not so that may not be a fair comparison. But I did watch Carriers. It can be streamed from Ne...more
Another free novel for kindle, but excellently written; this story definitely satisfied my latest desire for post-apocalyptic novels. After a deadly flu virus spreads through the world, killing people by the millions, Dr Sanchez decides to cut her losses and run from the medical centre she is about to be dismissed from, to the relative safety of ‘the Biosphere’, a self-sufficiency project her friend is working within. Rick DeAngelo, a driver for the hospital, is also making a run for it, and tog...more
(No Major Spoilers) I caught this book while it was free on Amazon.com through pixel of ink. I’m really into end of the world apocalyptic thrillers (No, I’m not a doomsday prepper!) so I downloaded it ASAP after reading the summary.

I downloaded this book for free following a recommendation. My attention was grabbed immediately from the beginning. How the few overcome adversity. H10N1 is a deadly flu virus, with no vaccine to counteract it. People either died horribly from the virus, or they never became sick in the first place. There was no in-between, no eventual recovery. The story follows two people who escape the city and are living through the catastrophe and how they manage to survive. They meet up with looters and g...more
This post-apocalyptic book started with a really great first chapter that absolutely grabbed me. Unfortunately, reading further and seeing the state of civilization, that first chapter made no sense. Clearly the author had this idea for a great hook and was determined to use it.
The book started out fairly strong but then it fizzled. The romance between the main characters moved way too fast and seemed very unrealistic. The part set in Biosphere II didn't ring true to me. I visited the site a few...more

Taeya fights her way to safety in a world devastated by the Korean flu. The outlines of this story were the tried-and-true elements of any survival plot, which is great because the details were crap. The crap details included horrible dialogue and exposition, casual racism (yes, you can write racist characters without writing a racist book, but that was not accomplished successfully here), a weird pacing where I kept missing things (like characters dying!), factual inaccuracies (including my pet...more
