I read all four of these within the past week, and as I'm writing I'm having a hard time remembering anything notable. Samantha is a vampire, and has been for six years. Her husband is avoiding her, she nearly fries every day picking up the kids, and she's left the Federal Government 's HUD division to work as a private detective. Stuff ensues.

The one thing popping this series up from a 2-star review to a 3 is the ongoing interaction with her husband. That felt surprisingly realistic, and it rea...more

I was SUPER excited to get to reading this omnibus. Mainly because I'm a little desperate for something different. As if vampires are something different, right? But this just sounded so neat. A vampire PI? Hell yeah I'll try that out.

Eleven pages into book one and I wanted to light it on fire. I mean we're talking so bad I actually stopped reading. I know I've had a small string of DNFs lately but you all know me; I usually give them far more of a chance than a mere eleven pages. Hell, HALO got...more

For Samantha Moon, being a mom of two, the wife of a cheating sleazeball, and a private investigator is hard work. Not to mention the fact that she's also a vampire and can only work nights. Yepp, that's right, a mommy vampire. Who would've thought? Sam was attacked 6 years ago while out on a nightly jog when she was attacked by something much stronger than she anticipated. Before she could gather her barrings and reach for her gun, the thing attacking her had already ripped open her throat and...more

Moon dance is the first novel in this series. I liked it in fact I even cried in one part.(but that could be
because my daughter left yesterday for 18 month mission so it hit harder.)
Samantha Moon is a vampire for 6 years after attack. She is a wife, mother and a private detective.
In this case a lawyer who was shot a bunch of times and survived hired her to find his shooter. He has
his own problems and guessed hers.
A police detective was guessing her real prob...more

Samantha Moon has suffered six years of a debilitating illness - unable to go out in sunlight - unable to eat food - unable to stay awake during the day. Very difficult for a working mum of two and wife of a fairweather husband. She's also finding it difficult to accept that she is a vampire.

I bought Moon Dance and then bought the series of 4. I have enjoyed all the books so far, but I have to say I am glad I bought the four together because of the annoying cliff hangers ending each book. I feel...more

I was pleasantly surprised by this series. I had never heard of J.R. Rain before but Barnes and Noble was having a sale for all four books for $2.99 and I decided to give it a try. The books are easy to follow, it has a great storyline, and the author went a different route with the vampire and daylight superstition.

Samantha Moon is a mother, a wife, and a vampire. Six years ago she was working as a Federal Agent. One night she decided to go for a job and was attacked by a vampire. After that sh...more

This collection features the first 4 stories in the Samantha Moon series by J.R. Rain.

I have reviewed each book separately, but I wanted to review my impression of the series as a whole (well, the whole collection offered here, at any rate).

The books are fun and don't take themselves seriously. This made them quite enjoyable. They have a lot of mystery, some suspense, some urban fantasy, and just a touch of romance. Warning: this is a bit of a serial. I am not a huge fan of that type of series,...more

Perusing the Amazon store for something good to read, I came across this four-book series featuring Samantha Moon, PI extraordinaire, and downloaded it to my Kindle Fire then quickly began reading. I wasn't sorry, albeit usually I do not seek out books about Vampires; however, the series' main focus isn't supernatural beings or happenings, but instead is a lively, easy-to-read series about the life of one "Moon Dance", as she is known by her online persona, as well as her family, work, trials an...more

I received all 4 books, plus the two short stories, in one, so I am going to review all of them as one work. They are so closely tied together that I feel this is the only way to do so. The premise was good; vampire PI, wife trying to hold her marriage together, mother of two keeping a big secret from her kids, trying to figure out how to be the best PI, wife, mother, and monster she can be. I must say right away, the story was good.

This had such potential. It was just ... I had to start a word...more

I downloaded this four-book set for free and it was a great investment of my time. I usually know within a few pages if I am going to enjoy one of my free downloads. I knew in one sentence with these. "I was folding laundry in the dark and watching Judge Judy rip this guy a new asshole when the doorbell rang." I was initially attracted to the diversion from the YA formula of young love, which primarily focuses on male vampires. This kickass female vampire, who is making it on her own, is compell...more

Samantha Moon, loving mother, dedicated wife, and a Private Eye with a difference. A vampire for hire, Samantha takes on a case that threatens to shine a light on her dark secret, while her happy family life crumbles around her. This boxed set contains the first four Samantha Moon books, "Moon Dance," "Vampire Moon," "American Vampire," and "Moon Child."

While a compelling series of books, I often found that the writing was extremely repetitive. Samantha's constant use of "I didn't know," not onl...more

All four novels in Nook's #1 Bestselling Vampire Series by J.R. Rain

What would happen if a wife, mother, federal agent got turned into a vampire?
J.R. Rain's Samantha Moon series gives readers an glimpse at what might occur if this happened to someone.
Readers get a close up view of Samantha Moon as she tries to keep up appearances while claiming a allergy to sunlight and placing orders of pigs' blood at the local butcher shop. While vampirism has been glorified in novels and film readers are able...more

I picked this up when the 4-book series went on sale, thinking it might be an okay read. Instead I devoured these like a madwoman. The protagonist is an accidental vampire trying desperately to maintain her Orange County suburban housewife lifestyle, complete with the obligatory minivan and a kid to pick up from school (in the middle of broad daylight). I liked the character immediately and stayed up late many a night to find out what would happen to her next as her situation grew increasingly c...more

DNF.

The premise was kinda cool but the writing was just bad. I felt it was blunt, and at times, needlessly descriptive.

For example ~

"I drank water from a bottle."

And another one ~

"The club was geared towards women, but there were always a few men hanging around the club. These men often dressed better than the women. I suspected homosexuality."

This quote is from a scene at a boxing club. That last sentence just seems to be thrown in out of nowhere. I'm not sure what the author was getting at w...more

I initially purchased this set because it was four books for two dollars and I am cheap. When I first started reading the book I was intrigued because the author creates a different vampire story. I figured I like murder mystery novels and the Samantha Moon was PI so I was interested. Also the author has a different set of rules for the vampire world which I found fascinating.

All of the books were engaging and you wanted to find out what was happening next. I couldn't put the nook down! I will...more

Just finished Samantha Moon! I cannot wait to read the next one. The character is extremely well developed and the continuing story line just pulled me right in. I could sense her emotions and the pain she was dealing with as well as her various other emotions (trying to not be a "spoiler"). The book was definitely one that I did not want to put down and I now will face a day of exhaustion because I forced myself to stay awake as long as possible to get through as much as possible last night.

I have tried for nearly three weeks to make it through these books and I just can't. I've read the first two and that was enough for me. I really could care less how cute she thought she was or how sexy every man she saw was. Ugh and don't get me started on the flying creature she becomes. Some of the chapters were so random and seemed to just be fillers for the book to be longer. One of these days I will try to finish the last two books, but not right now.

Okay, so I finally finished this set of...more

I liked these books. The story line was good and descriptions were very well described. As I was reading, something about Sam kept bothering me...a certain way she did something or a descision she made or some little thing that didn't seem right. I let it go that it was the newbie vampire that made her that way. When I finished reading the books, I read about the author. Then it hit me!!! This is exactly how a man would write about a woman! I think the author being a man, writing a main characte...more

I love vampire books and one of my favorite series of all time is the Dresden files, so a series that is about a vampire private detective sounded amazing, and I was not disappointed. At first I was not sure I was going to enjoy this series since Samantha Moon’s husband was a cheating jerk head and it appeared that she was just going to take his demands lying down, I was thoroughly annoyed, but I continued reading, and I am super glad I did, because Samantha does get a backbone eventually, and t...more

This series really impressed me. I f your a bit tired of typical paranormal stories, then try this one. The main character Samantha Moon is not your typical vampire heroine. She's got a quirky, snappy personality that's refreshing. A private detective by night, she faces threats and fear about herself as well as from those she investigates. This series is very well written. It's got interesting secondary characters that are just as interesting as Samantha Moon. The stories are standalone on one...more

This is a very emotional series. You connect with the main character, suffer and laugh with her.

When you start reading a new series you plunge head first into a world building, learning about this world the author created. Worlds so wonderful or crazy that you know you're reading a fairy tale. Even though this series is about vampires it's close to the real world as possible, and you learn as Sam learns about vampires together. It feels very real.

I can count on my fingers how many male authors...more

I enjoyed the four novels books JR Rain. I found the plot different and refreshing. There were some inconsistencies, but because I was so engrossed in the plot, they didn't detract from the story. The love interests between the heroine and to male characters keep my interest through all of the novels, but her readily acceptance of one who betrays her faith and leaves her in her greatest time of need is a bit of a stretch, though I admit to rooting for him and her to hook up. Overall, the novels...more

I bought this series because it was a really terrific deal on Kindle and I was game to try a Vampire series with good reviews. The book is not literary gold by any means, but it is entertaining and engaging. The premise of soccer mom turns vampire and tries to "make it work" is fun. I enjoyed the reading and went through the entire series surprisingly quickly. I didn't bother with the 5th book because the reviews were pretty negative. I have yet to find any series that can maintain its quality p...more

I just loved loved loved these books. I read them one after the other, and you know a boo is good when you walk around slower than normal, like a zombie with your nose stuck to a book. I wanted to take every second of my free time to read, if the Nook was waterproof, I would hae taken it to the shower with me LOL. All in all this is a great vampire series. :) She's a mom, she is a detective, and she is all fangs (if you get on her bad side, or you mess with her kids!).

A tongue-in-cheek rendering and reworking of the traditional vampire concept, the Samantha Moon stories are campily humorous. I mean, vampire as mother, homemaker, wife? Engrossing and with an easy and immediate suspension of disbelief (it seems natural here that vampires and other mythical creatures not only exist, but live among us, just like us-with marital troubles, children, stalkers, and all the other wonderful associations of contemporary society), these novels are great fun and enjoyment...more

Just finished Moon Child. Couldn't put it down tonight-- well, it's morning now, LOL-- and rated it four out of five stars.

I went into Moon Child with mixed feelings. Sam had turned her son to save him from a mortal death. That horrified me. It horrified her as well and she carries that weight throughout the whole story. Imagine being a child forever. We all remember what happened to Claudia. And because of that, Rain created a story that kept me turning the pages.

In between her frantic search...more

I throughly enjoyed this book and because they were so easy to read I read all four books at once and didnt feel I needed a break, in fact the stories ended with me needing and wanting to know more, and the fact that I only found them by accident makes it all the better. They are funny, clever and bring what I think is a whole new twist to the vampire story. I cant wait to get the next instalments and highly recommend if you like vampire stories, but also if you like mysteries.

4 and a half stars I really like this series! First books I actually bought on iphone kindle ap. I had read the first one( free) and it intrigued me

spoiler alert

Samantha is a soccer mom who is turned into a vampire. She has to deal with being a mom, living with a jerk (ex)husband( who vomited when he tried to make love to her)and various creatures of the night while trying to maintain a "normal " life.

can't wait for #5 to come out

The Samantha Moon series is really good! Sam is just a woman trying to be a good mother, wife, and private detective after becoming a vampire. Her character is realistic and likable. The author is good at making you care about Sam and the plight that she is in, and I found myself really feeling for her throughout the whole series. The books are all enjoyable and will leave you wanting more!
