I read all four of these within the past week, and as I'm writing I'm having a hard time remembering anything notable. Samantha is a vampire, and has been for six years. Her husband is avoiding her, she nearly fries every day picking up the kids, and she's left the Federal Government 's HUD division to work as a private detective. Stuff ensues.

I was SUPER excited to get to reading this omnibus. Mainly because I'm a little desperate for something different. As if vampires are something different, right? But this just sounded so neat. A vampire PI? Hell yeah I'll try that out.

Eleven pages into book one and I wanted to light it on fire. I mean we're talking so bad I actually stopped reading. I know I've had a small string of DNFs lately but you all know me; I usually give them far more of a chance than a mere eleven pages. Hell, HALO got...more I was SUPER excited to get to reading this omnibus. Mainly because I'm a little desperate for something different. As if vampires are something different, right? But this just sounded so neat. A vampire PI? Hell yeah I'll try that out.

Eleven pages into book one and I wanted to light it on fire. I mean we're talking so bad I actually stopped reading. I know I've had a small string of DNFs lately but you all know me; I usually give them far more of a chance than a mere eleven pages. Hell, HALO got more than that from me. I just couldn't do it with SAMANTHA MOON. It was too terrible.

First the writing, much like WILDE'S FIRE, was too unpolished. The sentences were just strung along together, getting me from point A to point B with no flourish and would alternate between zipping through seemingly more important moments, like backstory, and hanging out at mundane crap I didn't care about, like picking up her kids from school. I don't care. It was an underdeveloped work.

Next the MC wanted to hump every male leg that she crossed paths with. I'm okay with vamporn of the pornpire. Not a problem with it. But I HATE it when every male that crossed the MC's path is described by their varying levels of fuckability. Especially when the MC is already married. Yeah, no. Bitch, you're a trashhole. The opening scene was Samantha getting a delivery from a UPS guy and I honest to god thought it was either a porn dream or I was reading erotica with the way the dude was described. And of course he was some super awesome, super sexy guy that the MC just wanted to bang right against the door jamb. Yeah, because all of my delivery men look like that. And she constantly had to throw mental ice water on herself. I was just not cool with it. Especially since she was already married. It's okay to look but this woman might as well have just ingested a keg of Spanish Fly. Gross.

And then there was the name-dropping. Burger King, Coppertone and a few others. In eleven pages there were five that I counted, four of those within three consecutive paragraphs. Annoying. Why can't you just say you stopped for burgers? Why can't you just say you slathered on sunscreen? Do you get paid for every name you drop? Blech.

But the kicker? Samantha was viewing video footage of some dude getting gunned down. And the assassin was using a .22. NOT A CHANCE IN HELL. Did the guy sit down to pee too? But I kept reading. And then that same gun totally shredded a tree big enough to hide a guy the size of a Coke machine. And we're done. Fucking seriously? Dear authors: if you're going to write about guns, DO YOUR GODDAMN RESEARCH. I hate it when authors want to use guns but instead of actually looking into them they just watch some movies with guns in them. I'm sure this author would have people flying back after getting hit with a .22 too. Boo. Sorry, author. You've totally blown my trust. We can't be friends.

So yeah. Eleven pages into book one and done. Could I recommend this to someone? If you like mediocre writing, name-dropping and know nothing about guns and can thus swallow such fallacies, by all means take a stab at it. I won't be making it.(less)

I absolutely loved all these books. Samantha Moon is my new favorite fictional character. Right from the first sentence, of the first chapter, of the first book, I knew I was going to be a fan of this series. The romance in these books are there, but not the main topics that are brought to the forefront. Which I love. (even thought I'm a lover of everything dealing in romance) Following Samantha's journey through her vampirism, her job as a p.i. and her life as a mother, who is still trying to provide for her kids every which way she can, kept me turning the page. It helps that there are a few hunks mentioned in the books, one of them being a shaggy werewolf. The dialogue in these books kept me laughing for days! All the witty comments between the characters really brought the book to life.

What I like and didn't like about these books is the same thing. Talk about a double edged sword. I both liked and disliked the fact that the author used references to the stuff we use/talk about/hear about in our daily lives. Here's why I liked it... I liked it because it gave me a sense of time. When the author mentioned Charlie Sheen, Facebook, Lindsey Lohan, etc. It felt as if I was there in the book... or me living in LA County, I can be all... "Oh so that was that big black thing I saw soaring in the sky that night." Now, for that double edged sword. I disliked it, because I couldn't care less about those "reality" bits that were thrown in. I'd rather be so deep in the book without being pulled out by those little reminders that this is just a fictional book. That might make sense or that might not. Like I said, double edged sword and all.

All in all, I thought this series was great and I will be itching to get my hands on Book #5 "Vampire Dawn" If you haven't read this series or never heard of it, I suggest you do so now! You will not regret it. (less)

Samantha Moon has suffered six years of a debilitating illness - unable to go out in sunlight - unable to eat food - unable to stay awake during the day. Very difficult for a working mum of two and wife of a fairweather husband. She's also finding it difficult to accept that she is a vampire.

I have enjoyed all the books so far, but I have to say I am glad I bought the four together because of the annoying cliff hangers ending each book. I bought Moon Dance and then bought the series of 4. I have enjoyed all the books so far, but I have to say I am glad I bought the four together because of the annoying cliff hangers ending each book. I feel a book should hold a complete story - not necessarily all the threads being tied up, but the main story should be resolved for a sense of completion. As I get the stories on kindle, I can't argue about the cost, but this ploy with higher priced books would definately put me off.

The stories seem rather short, and as others have pointed out, the repetition is wearing after a while. I feel it takes space away from details that should have been added. The relationship with Fang is odd and I feel it could have been explored more fully in these books. Considering Sam is a law enforcer, she seems to have accepted Fang's history with few concerns. Personally, I would be concerned as a mother of young children to have such a character in my life, particularly as he is keen on making it an eternal bond.

I recall at the end of one book Sam telling Kingsley that her husband and his lover had split up, then the next book detailed how Sam coped with her husband moving his lover in to their marital home. I also recall the chracter describing how her huband always went to bed in his gym clothes so that he wouldnt touch her cold skin. Next he was described as always sleeping naked under the covers whilst she would sleep on top. So there are sometimes discrepancies.

I havent started on the novellas yet; I'm wondering if I have to in order to follow the story. I hope not. Regardless of these little niggles, I have enjoyed this series. It provides good entertainment and the main character is far more likeable than the emotionally retarded Lissa from the Blood Destiny series. I'll keep reading and perhaps get round to the novellas. These stories are worth reading. (less)

Samantha Moon is a mother, a wife, and a vampire. Six years ago she was working as a Federal Agent. One night she decided to go for a job and was attacked by a vampire. After that she decided to be a P.I. since she could only work nights. She tells everyone that she has a rare skin condition that cannot be exposed to sunlight.

We are introduced to a were wolf attorney who was made famous by surviving five gunshot wounds to the head. Her husband, who I hate with a passion. Then there is Fang, her internet blog friend who she has been corresponding with since she was turned. Along the way the author introduces you to many secondary characters, who even if they don't have very much storyline you can't help but love them anyways.

I love that the author makes the reader feel so much for these characters. I love the men that Samantha loves and I hate the one man that she hates.The book took me through a gauntlet of emotions; I laughed,cried, got angry; I absolutely love a book that does that.

Samantha is a great, realistic character. She's a loving mother trying to raise her kids, run a business and keep her marriage together. Her husband is absent much of the time, and she's pretty sure he's having an affair. But she's not ready to confront him, and is terrified of losing her children and her marriage. She also has the added stress of dealing with her abilities and limitations. Her enhanced strength and reflexes are great, but dragging herself out of bed to be with the kids after school is painful and difficult. Not to mention her existential worries: Is she dead? Evil? How long will she live? These things made Samantha sympathetic and relatable. Her frustration and anger are understandable.

A plot and pace that moves along nicely, a well-done mystery, interesting secondary characters, and at the end the stage is set for the further adventures of Samantha Moon - I loved this series!(less)

I wasn't sorry, albeit usually I do not seek out books about Vampires; however, the series' main focus isn't supernatural beings or happenings, but instead is a lively, easy-to-read series about the life of one "Moon Dance", as she is known by her online persona, as well as her family, work, trials and tribulations, with some of the joys of being human thrown in for good measure. Moon is a jewel even with her foibles. She is a faithful sister to Mary Lou and devoted mother of Tammy and Anthony. She is compelled to do her work as a Private Investigator with clarity, determination and often forcefulness, while providing her clients with results and sometimes desperately-needed closure. She is obviously a woman on a mission. She just happens to be a Vampire.

For Samantha Moon, being a Vampire is not her life, but is a part of her life she has learned to deal with. She learns how to cope with limitations, as well as how to use extraordinary gifts for the betterment of family, friends, life and work.

J. R. Rain fleshes out the characters of the books to make them come alive in the imagination. The story plays out in rapid succession of descriptive scenes, character thoughts/conversations and frustrations that most anyone could experience. The reader is reticent to put down the series once started, and each book of this series flows evenly from one to the next. Although many of the issues discussed in the books regarding the difficulties of family, work and life itself, Rain intersperses humor that is, at times, laugh-out-loud funny! Like life, serious circumstances can have humorous interjections. Rain manages to weave an intricate story in finely-tuned detail that is extremely fast-paced without a letup in the reader's interest. The premise was kinda cool but the writing was just bad. I felt it was blunt, and at times, needlessly descriptive.

For example ~

"I drank water from a bottle."

And another one ~

"The club was geared towards women, but there were always a few men hanging around the club. These men often dressed better than the women. I suspected homosexuality."

I initially purchased this set because it was four books for two dollars and I am cheap. When I first started reading the book I was intrigued because the author creates a different vampire story. I figured I like murder mystery novels and the Samantha Moon was PI so I was interested. Also the author has a different set of rules for the vampire world which I found fascinating.

Just finished Samantha Moon! I cannot wait to read the next one. The character is extremely well developed and the continuing story line just pulled me right in. I could sense her emotions and the pain she was dealing with as well as her various other emotions (trying to not be a "spoiler"). The book was definitely one that I did not want to put down and I now will face a day of exhaustion because I forced myself to stay awake as long as possible to get through as much as possible last night.

I have tried for nearly three weeks to make it through these books and I just can't. I've read the first two and that was enough for me. I really could care less how cute she thought she was or how sexy every man she saw was. Ugh and don't get me started on the flying creature she becomes. This series really impressed me. I f your a bit tired of typical paranormal stories, then try this one. The main character Samantha Moon is not your typical vampire heroine. She's got a quirky, snappy personality that's refreshing. A private detective by night, she faces threats and fear about herself as well as from those she investigates. This is a very emotional series. You connect with the main character, suffer and laugh with her.

When you start reading a new series you plunge head first into a world building, learning about this world the author created. Worlds so wonderful or crazy that you know you're reading a fairy tale. Even though this series is about vampires it's close to the real world as possible, and you learn as Sam learns about vampires together. It feels very real.

I enjoyed the four novels books JR Rain. I found the plot different and refreshing. There were some inconsistencies, but because I was so engrossed in the plot, they didn't detract from the story. The love interests between the heroine and to male characters keep my interest through all of the novels, but her readily acceptance of one who betrays her faith and leaves her in her greatest time of need is a bit of a stretch, though I admit to rooting for him and her to hook up. I bought this series because it was a really terrific deal on Kindle and I was game to try a Vampire series with good reviews. The book is not literary gold by any means, but it is entertaining and engaging. The premise of soccer mom turns vampire and tries to "make it work" is fun. I just loved loved loved these books. I read them one after the other, and you know a boo is good when you walk around slower than normal, like a zombie with your nose stuck to a book. I wanted to take every second of my free time to read, if the Nook was waterproof, I would hae taken it to the shower with me LOL. All in all this is a great vampire series. :) She's a mom, she is a detective, and she is all fangs (if you get on her bad side, or you mess with her kids!).

Just finished Moon Child. Couldn't put it down tonight-- well, it's morning now, LOL-- and rated it four out of five stars.

I went into Moon Child with mixed feelings. Sam had turned her son to save him from a mortal death. That horrified me. It horrified her as well and she carries that weight throughout the whole story. Imagine being a child forever. We all remember what happened to Claudia. And because of that, Rain created a story that kept me turning the pages.

I throughly enjoyed this book and because they were so easy to read I read all four books at once and didnt feel I needed a break, in fact the stories ended with me needing and wanting to know more, and the fact that I only found them by accident makes it all the better. They are funny, clever and bring what I think is a whole new twist to the vampire story. I cant wait to get the next instalments and highly recommend if you like vampire stories, but also if you like mysteries.

The Samantha Moon series is really good! Sam is just a woman trying to be a good mother, wife, and private detective after becoming a vampire. Her character is realistic and likable. The author is good at making you care about Sam and the plight that she is in, and I found myself really feeling for her throughout the whole series. The books are all enjoyable and will leave you wanting more!
