For college student Emily Sheppard, the thought of spending a summer alone in New York is much more preferable than spending it in France with her parents. Just completing her freshman year at Callister University, Emily faces a quiet summer in the city slums, supporting herself by working at the campus library. During one of her jogs through the nearby cemetery while visi...more

Crow's Row : Uhhh...the storytelling was okay?

Yes, that's about as good as you're going to get from me. I had to find something positive to say.

What a difference a week makes, I guess. It's been several days since I left Crow's Row unfinished (see first half of review below). I finally decided to bite the bullet and finish up the last few pages today. The extreme frustration that I felt last week has since diminished, leaving me with a sense of apathy. Nothing about the book's glaring problems...more

Crows everywhere are equally black

Crow’s Row is not a solid 4 stars book but I must say that I CANNOT wait for the sequel. The end was just GREAT but I had some issues with the story. Let’s start!

Emily is a lost soul. She’s 19 years old and she is in college. She lost her brother a few years ago and since then her life changed. She is not a conventional heroine, she is lost, she’s shy and she refuses all the money that comes from her rich family. She is living in a “horrible” place close to he...more

"Whoever said that love hurts was wrong. Love is excruciating, especially when you can feel it slipping through your fingers and there is nothing you can do about it."

Why did the story have to end there?????? WHY??!?! OK, so this is all actually totally my fault. I knew what the ending was and that it was a horrible cliffhanger before I started reading this but it still punched me in the gut!! Dear. lord. *sniffle*

Frustrated by her shallow, controlling and uncaring filthy-rich parents, Emi...more

*Editing again 4th time now....I don't like to rant.... in fact I don't think I ever have so I keep trying to justify myself.

I tried to read the book again because I thought maybe I was being too harsh but I'm actually adding to my rant instead.....

DNF at 25% Spoilers and big rant ahead! You have been warned! Also I know 25% is early to give up but if the whole relationship made no sense to me there was no point investing any more tim...more

The ending was pure A-G-O-N-Y ...
Good news? I looked up Ms. Hockley's tumblr blog (Okay. Googled it.) and she does mention a few entries down that she is currently working on the next book in this series.

God bless you Ms. Hockley!

'Crow's Row' left me totally flabbergasted. That's the best word I can come up with other then A-G-O-N-Y . This is definitely a book that requires your UN-divided attention while reading in order to keep up with the twisty plot. I...more

It is impossible for me to give a traditional review for CROW'S ROW without giving everything away. Just know that pretty much NOTHING is as it seems. There were many times when I thought I had it figured out only to have what I thought was reality snatched from me... I was in a constant state o...more

Emmy & Cameron me atraparon. Cada personaje...more

Hockley has written a riveting love story. I was captivated from the very beginning and loved every minute of this novel, even the ending, though it angered me and even made me cry. Leaving my emotions raw, Hockley has created a very powerful novel, and though the male lead, Cameron, is a crime boss, making tough decisions that occasionally end in the death of someone, he’s hard not to like.

It felt like an entire lifetime passed as I read. Hockley has really fleshed out her characters, giving th...more

I liked the story even though it was a little borying sometimes..and the begging was slow.
I think the end was way the best part of the story.

Crow’s Row will leave you speech less. Let’s get this out first, you will either like or hate the book. I really enjoyed Julie Hockley’s writing style. I get it, it makes sense and it’s just so emotional, passionate, you just can’t get enough of it. Some people will find the writing slow, but I liked the pace. I really got a grasp of Emily and Cameron’s relationship.

The prologue was very confusing and I’m glad it was short and even though you finally understood the reasoning to the prolog...more

I have never EVER had a book effect me the way Crow's does!!! I wish to GOD Cameron was REAL... REAL REAL REAL!!!

Love can make us do some absurd things surely, Cameron is a point in fact.

"She's better equipped to deal with this than me, I told myself over and over again. She'll forget about me, move on, get married, have a couple of kids, and live till she's a hundred years old. No bullets w

I must admit it did take me a while to get into this book, but once I did your on a roller coaster journey that becomes addictive, the amount of emotions you are put through whilst reading this is mindblowing to say the least, at times this story is light hearted, frustrating, thought-provoking, and heart breaking..
The ending blew me for a sixer I did not see that coming, it was emotional and gut-wrenching. And definately left me thinking for hours after I had finished this book..

"Crows are mischievous-they like to play tricks on us, but they are also extremely loyal to their kind."

Okay, for starters I want to be kidnapped by Cameron, ha!, no let's get serious, so this is a well-written, wonderful read, filled with intense emotions and shocking turns you never will see coming. I could not put this book down! That said, I loved the intial love story between the two characters as well as the seamless way other characters were brought into the book. I loved how the aut...more

OH MY GOD WHERE DO I EVEN START?! I loved loved loved loved loved this book. I laughed, cried, gasped, and even, at one point exclaimed "what the fu** is going on?!" (please pardon my language-I was caught up in the heat of the moment). First of all, I love it when the good girl and bad guy fall for each other, and come on, what is more bad than a mob boss???? I loved the characters, even Spider. I thought it was awesome how Cameron had actually watched Emily for years without her knowing it. I...more

Didn't love it. The Heroine was way annoying to me. Could have been my mood but it felt like this book was redundant. We get that she wants to be a big girl and do things on her own. That would be good if she had a clue. Bless her heart she just does not get it. Her decisions are so outrageous that you find yourself wondering why she's still alive at one point.
We are told over and over about her "kind" and his "kind" (rich/poor). Yet there seems to be no bridge that would have made a relationsh...more

This book actually surprised me...
I decided to read it based on a recommendation that was given to me based on another book I liked, "Beautiful Disaster" by Jamie McGuire.

When I read the summary of this one, I was a bit concerned. I often find the "kidnapped/Stockholm syndrome" type stories a little too cliche and worried this one might pan out that way too.

What I found was a very well written story, full of in depth character development, a story that had a good plot, and an ending I didn't ex...more

The book was fantastic all the way through....right until I got to the last 2 chapters and epilogue...It had me sobbing my eyes out for about 15minutes, it was just so damn sad. WHY CAMERON?! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!! dammit Julie Hockley, I just wanted a happy ending for Emmy.

I hope Julie Hockley is typing with fingers of fury because I can't wait for the sequel! The suspense was great, I never predicted what was coming next. I did wish that it was a little bit more detailed and steamier in the Emily and Cameron department. The ending was gut wrenching to read but only set things up better for the sequel. (I semi hope that Emily becomes some kick ass heroine with gun and martial arts skills ready to take revenge ha ha!)

Oh thank God that ended like that! Sorry had to get that out first. I'm still in shock actually, but one thing is for sure. I cannot wait for the sequel.

Though the whole story is mostly from Emily's POV, the story actually begins and ends in Cameron's POV. Emily refuses to live a life that her rich parents wants her to live. She comes from a very privileged family and yet she chooses to go to a not-so well known college, stays in a run down house, with a closet sized bedroom and s...more

Holy Cameron Hillard! I finished this book in five hours! OH MY FREAKING GOD I loved it so much. It's as bad-ass as Young Love Murder. The characters are well developed and are so unique they could stand on their own. While reading it, I had a roller coaster ride of emotions with so many loops like a million loops. I swear at some point it drove me crazy (while reading in the middle of the night until the wee hours of the morning). I was angry one moment, crying the next. I was scared, in love,...more

What would happen if you fell in love with someone who is “wrong” for you? What are you willing to do for love? What are you willing to live with? How much would you sacrifice for love? Questions such as these kept running through my mind as I was reading Crow’s Row. Frankly, they are still running through my mind as I can not seem to stop thinking about this book.

Ok....I had high hopes for this book & honestly the story was there. It had potential, maybe if someone else wrote it:-/ Here's my problem(s): Cameron is a MOB BOSS so act like one!!!!!!! He is too nice, too calm, too not manly. I have an idea of what a mob boss is and Cam is not that man! Emmy....poor girl. Are u really that naive and why do u ask the dumbest questions???? She is 19 and acts like she's a 13 yr old girl! Has she ever watched tv or gone outside? Didn't she live in the project...more

Not really what I expected. It was kinda boring, I even considered stop reading it, but when I start a book I have to finish it, unless I give up in the first chapter (but that ones don't even enter my read list).
The love story wasn't very convincing. I'm getting tired of female characters that think that the boy they love is a god and that they are trash. I mean, the guy was a criminal, he wasn't perfect.
The end, that many people complain about, kinda saved the book a little. But I couldn't l...more

I will be honest, I was prepared to hate this. I read a bad review and it sounded like everything I hated in a book. I'm not even sure why I gave it a try, but I am so glad I did.

It took me a while to get into it, but I think it was more real life getting in the way of reading it in one sitting, than me not being interested. I loved it. It was everything that I didn't expect it to be.

I wasn't in love with Emmy from the very beginning, she seemed like such a sap and I was thinking "oh no, not ano...more

How have I survived this long without reading Crow's Row? Okay, so I'm being a tad melodramatic but I just LOVED this book! I mean, can't put it down - can't breathe - don't want to talk to anyone until I'm finished - LOVED this book! The storyline (a girl witnesses a murder and is kidnapped by the drug lord who commited the murder, only to find herself falling in love with her kidnapper) immediately made me feel like I was naughty for wanting to read it - but I just HAD to - and immediately! “How do you know when you're There, I had once wondered. Maybe you're lucky enough to notice the moment it's happening to you. Maybe you're able to block out all the other stuff that is, in the end, just background noise. But, most often, you don't know that you were There until you lose it, or until it gets taken away from you. When you look back, you clearly see that time, that place, when all the pieces of you had finally fit together to make you blissfully happy, make you your whole self. Like one of those jumbo puzzles that take up your entire kitchen table for weeks, the tiny pieces are just cardboard shapes with colors splashed on them, and they don't make any sense until you find their rightful place among the other pieces. When you put the last piece into place and the pieces now form a complete picture, that's when you're There. But while you were busy thinking about gluing the puzzle together, so that the pieces would never be apart again, someone comes from behind you, destroys the last piece and throws the rest of the pieces away. Even if you could muster up enough courage to put the pieces back together, the picture would never be complete again, because of the last missing piece...which, as it turned out, was smack in the middle, or in the heart, of the picture.” 90 people liked it
