The writing in this was cheesy to me....the dialogue was a little ridiculous, and told in first person in such a way that no one would really tell. The storyline was alright, but what really drew me to this book (and kept me reading it) was the familiarity of the setting--references to Bayfield, Duluth, and of course, Madeline Island. It's great when you can read a story and picture yourself in the places described--Gruenke's, Maggie's, Manypenny Ave, the marina, the University of MN Duluth....s...more
This is book two of this new series and I really have enjoyed the story and all its characters. I can't wait to read book three!
Liked the second book more than the first! Things get eerie on Madeline Island this time around. Haunted cabins, long forgotten family secrets, and same great character fun!
Take a virtual tour of the island with my book club and read my interview with the author at my blog!

I didn't like this as much as Moon over Madeline Island, but it was still quite entertaining. I felt like there were too many things going on with this book, and I had a couple "Oh, give me a break" moments, but I still enjoyed reading more about the adventures of Eve and Ruby. And I'm looking forward to the third installment that will come out this fall or next spring!
Book 2 of this fun group of folks is icing on the cake. Loved it as much as the first book. Have waited in vain for Book 3...will there be more???? A fun romp with great characters on beautiful Madeline Island in Lake Superior. I want more, so much more of this series. Where are you Jay Gilbertson????

I used to live in Ashland, WI, so I got this book from the library as a curiosity. The storyline is a bit weak, but the characters are interesting.
