Summary (worldcat): When her best toy mysteriously disappears, Olivia the feisty pig is determined to find out who is responsible.

Review: Olivia is hilarious and supercute. She perfectly reflects the short attention span and impatience found often, but not exclusively, in preschoolers and young children. The illustrations really make the story, and often make me laugh....out loud. I love how Olivia looks when she is so tired of waiting, and the silliness of her practicing a piano on dark and...more

Does anyone not love Olivia? Falconer's irresistible heroine is back, searching 'on a dark and stormy night' for the fiend who snatched her best toy. Nothing can keep plucky Olivia down for long, and a needle and thread can solve anything. A captivating preschool storytime book."

The love affair with Olivia grows and grows. Annabella just explodes into laughter when baby William says, "Whooshy gaga" when accused by Olivia of taking her toy. She has encountered the same cheerful babble from her own baby brother, and it just rings so true for her. We had to check this out twice from the library. Oh! And the subtext...I almost forgot mama pig's withering look when dad attempts to save the day (with a retail tourniquet) and gets all the glory. Ring! Ring! Ring!

Olivia ... an the Missing Toy is the third story that I've read to Sean and Harriet. The series by Ian Falconer continues to delight all of us.

In this story, Olivia is missing her favorite toy. She searches everywhere: under the rug, the sofa, the cat and so forth. She tries interrogating her brothers; it doesn't work.

In the end she finds the toy but finding it brings heart-break. Olivia, though, in her usual way, bounces back and the book ends on a happy note.

I was disappointed by this Olivia outing. Part of what makes an Olivia story a proper Olivia story is that the story can be very disjointed as Olivia's short attention span jumps from topic to topic. Sometimes this can be very entertaining and humorous, but in this case it just wasn't very satisfying.

Olivia is by far the most fabulous pig there is, and this is my favorite book in the series. The theme of missing toys is generally a successful one, but as with everything else Olivia carries it off with her own unique flare.

ps Don't belive anyone who says this a "girl" book. That's true hogwash. Boys love Olivia too.

Hilariously fun to read. Many children's books use fake dialouge between parents and children. The Olivia books do no such thing. As I read this book I chuckled inside to see how full of emotions a little girl could be. This book would be great for moms to read to young children to help them see how funny they are.

Laurel and I love this book. It does make her giggle to see Olivia lifting up the sofa to find her toy. And I like that it teaches her that toys can be fixed instead of just replaced. We talked about it and she wants me to show her how to sew so she can fix some of her cloth dollies that have rips in them. Yay!

I didn't get introduced to Olivia until I was 36 and in my Masters program taking a Children's book publishing class. I laughed my ass off and fell in love with her!! So, the girl children will be named the following: Katheryn, Isabella, and Olivia.

This is the most hysterical picture book ever. The best of the Olivia books. Not to mention beautifully drawn and touches of the author's usual cultural references that go way over my kids' heads (photos of Martha Graham in this one.)

I liked this book so much, I asked to have it read to me 3x in a row!

It's great for learning what's red and what's green. Most of the book is in black and white and red and green are the only other colors used!

Loved it.

I am really starting to get into Olivia books. Right before she found the lost toy, she was playing piano,on a dark and stormy night (in front of a candelabrum) how cool is that?

This is one of our favorites in our house. I have a 5 year old who can not read yet, but knows exactly what each page says. Everytime we read it they act as if its the first.

When William says, "Whooshie Gaga!" - my daughter just cracks up. I love this one. My husband is especially fond of interchange between Olivia and her dad in this one :-)

I'm not a major fan of the Olivia books. I just think they are written more for adults than children. That being said this is a great book to use for story time.

The Olivia series in general is really cute - but some of these books depict less than gentle parenting. This book avoids that while being funny for the adult.

Cute, but a definite disappointment after "Olivia" and "Olivia forms a band." 3 1/2 stars.
