I bought this the day it came out. For a while, since I had a big 'ol stack of library books to get through, plus a massive deadline on a personal project, I tried to put off reading this, even though I was ecstatic about returning to Meg and Calen's world.
I did not even last a week before throwing aside the book I was currently reading (No offense, book) and tearing into this one.
I hadn't realized just how much I missed Meg and Calen (and, most surprisingly of all, Serek) until I began reading....more

I've been waiting for a sequel to The Dragon of Trelian since 2009. And The Princess of Trelian is an excellent one, keeping all of the elements I loved from the first novel but developing the characters and conflicts that propel the trilogy's story arc. This is a sadly under-appreciated traditional fantasy series with two engaging leads -- Calen, an apprentice mage with a rare ability, and Meg, the princess-heir who has a magical link with a dragon -- and a saving-the-...more

If it weren't for the interesting magic or Jakl the dragon, I'm not sure if I could have made it through this book. All right, to be fair, I might have a better review to write if I actually had the 3rd book in the series in my hands to help resolve the messy cliff-hanger.
This book picks up pretty much where Dragon of Trelian left off. Trelian is at a lull in the storm. They know the evil sorceress Sen Eva is out there somewhere trying to bring back the even eviler Mage Krelig and that to do so...more

3.5 stars. I liked The Dragon of Trelian a bit better than this one. But, man, did this ending hurt. Where is book 3!? I need it as soon as the publishing company gets their act together. Meg has to deal with her demons that carry over, increased, from book 1.
" There was something wrong with her. The way she was feeling lately, the anger, the slipping away from herself...The link kept changing her, making her feel so out of control, so different, changing her thoughts and feelings and influenci...more

I went to the recent ALA Mid-Winter event and picked up quite a few ARCs. The one that I was most excited to start reading was this one. Why...you might ask? Because I read The Dragon of Trelian back in 2009 and absolutely loved it. Of course I was gleefully surprise that a sequel was coming this year. Then when it was there at ALA, of course I was tremendously eager to read further adventures of Meg and Calen. I can see that this series fits more of the middle aged reader but I have to say in t...more

This was a great sequel to the dragon of trelian. The only downer being that it turned out to be a middle of a trilogy/series and the last one hasn't been written yet!!!!
I liked the character development, they have matured a lot since we last met them although they still make foolish decisions and disobey direct orders which leads to their getting into more trouble than they should but I guess we need these clumsy plot devices or else we wouldn't end up with much of a story would we? :)

A solid sequel. I really like Meg and Calen and the mages (especially our new mage friend with the odd sense of humor). I never really believe the characters of the king and queen, but they are rather secondary, so that's not a big deal. The first book stood well enough on its own, but this second book indicates that a third is quite necessary.
Sometimes there's a comfort in seeing familiar tropes done well, which is how I feel about this series.
Nothing groundbreaking here: evil wizards, impetuous apprentices in magic, brave princesses, telepathic bonds with dragons.
However, all the characters are well-realized in a way that takes them beyond their types and makes them feel real.
I _hate_ the new covers though--this one isn't so bad, but the new cover of Dragons of Trelian, where Meg is partially hiding behind Calen and peeking out fr...more
