Review by Molly: I'm all about Christmas, so getting the chance to read this novel was a treat for me. It really got me in the festive mood that's for sure! With a name like Christmas on Nutcracker Court, who WOULDN'T be ready for Christmas to come?
This is my first Judy Duarte novel but it won't be my last! This story is filled with lots of wonderful characters and a fantastic plot line. Carly's character is one I could truly identify with. Being a single mom of two boys myself, I know what it...more

“The Season of Miracles”
Welcome to Fairbrook and especially Nutcracker Court where almost all halls are decked out and almost everyone is jolly. You’ll meet Carly Westbrook; divorced, hard-working Mother of two sons; Josh and Mikey, and is a hairstylist as well. She continually worries about making ends meet with her growing family and its mountain of bills. It seems like Carly just starts to see the light at the end of a very dark tunnel when an emergency of some shape or description sets her b...more

What else would I be reading this week but a heartwarming Christmas story? I won this book from the author by commenting on a blog post and couldn't wait to start it. I've previously read "Mulberry Park" the first novel set in the fictional town of Fairbrook, and loved it.
Judy Duarte writes wonderful Christian romances. Or maybe they're women's fiction with strong romantic elements. Regardless of what genre you classify them in, they're stories of families and love and faith. They're books that,...more

Good book. I liked the main characters of Carly and Max. Carly is a single mom who is doing her best to provide for her two sons, but she just can't seem to catch a break. When she has another confrontation with Max over her boys and his dog she's not sure what to do. I love the way that she stands up to Max when she thinks her boys are in danger. I also like the way that she's able to make amends when she needs to. Max has taken a leave of absence from his job in order to work on his book. It i...more
Judy Duarte’s Christmas on Nutcracker Court is a heartwarming holiday novel that is sure to pull at your heartstrings! The characters from Fairbook range in age, sex, occupation, wealth and health. I found myself drawn to one of the main characters, Carly, and her two children, as I could relate well with them. A single mom of two boys, trying to make ends meet she isn’t looking for love. However, it seems to sizzle in the air every time she is around Max Tolliver and his dog Hemmingway. She onl...more

This was an enjoyable read, and satisfying enough for me to recommend it to others, but there were also elements that bothered me. The main characters were all delightful, well fleshed out, and had both strengths and flaws. The focus on a group of women who are friends was wonderful, as was the mystery of who one character, Maggie, actually was. Hemmingway, the dog, was a fun addition, and he definitely added some comedy and drama. A couple of things bothered me personally, however: A poker grou...more
***Though the publisher provides the free book, I offer the opinion.***
My Look:
Even during the Christmas season, these neighbors on Nutcraker Court aren't a close bunch, and when a stranger comes to town, odd things begin to happen.
This fourth book in the series illuminates more inhabitants of the town of Fairbrook. Josh, a preteen boy, strives to help his single mother as best as he could, and his mother Carly is trying to raise two boys alone. As if that isn't enough, her money problems have h...more

The residents of Fairmont are getting ready for Christmas and some have more holiday spirit than the rest and some have much more to be thankful for than the rest – take single mom and hairstylist Carly Westbrook who is more worried about keeping she and her two sons fed and under roof than Christmas buying. And now she has to worry about eccentric neighbor Max Tolliver who’s dog keeps showing up to get her boys in trouble.

As a thriller/suspense reader, this is a little out of my genre, however I have read one of Judy Duarte's books before and they are uplifting, spiritual and truly a luxury to read. Something can be learned from her books, the true love of one another, the power of faith and prayer and kindness, which in this day and age is much forgotten. Characters rich with flaws, faith and kindness learn about themselves and each other, the characters are well developed, work together well and devlop complex...more
I've got to make a list of all the publishers that specialize in Christian literature so I don't pick up something with a commercial sounding title and find out that it's faith based. Again, that's a great genre for those who enjoy it but usually, as in this case it's way too heavy handed for me.
Several of the heroines in this one also seem a little too dense and out of touch with the real world. That doesn't speak well for them even before they get the light or in this case Light turned on for...more

I enjoyed this Christmas romance enough to recommend it to others. Certain elements that were added (such as the homely dog) kept me entertained and satisfied. However, I felt that some questions were left unanswered: Did Grant end up finding a job? Was the publisher happy with Max's book? I may have increased the three-star rating if these story lines had not been left hanging.
This was a very good book. There were several different story lines going with several different characters but they all went together. I really enjoyed reading it and was involved with each of the characters lives. I do think the story wrapped up a little too quickly. I think the author should have made it a bit longer. It was almost like there was a limit to the # of pages she could have so she quick just made things happen. It was a real good book though and don't let this stop you from readi...more
A good story. Carly is rising 2 boys on her own and she is having trouble with the upcoming holidays and her bills. Josh is helping by watching out for his little brother Mikey. They are walking the trails looking for bottles and cans to recycle when they meet a big wooly dog. They return the dog to his owner Max, who thinks the boys let the dog out of the fenced yard. Max's neighbor is on a cruise and her cousin Maggie is watching the house. While Maggie is in town, mysterious things are happen...more
