This book is a summary of the author's year in California when he attempted a big year in the state. It summarized all of the birds that were seen, told where they were to be found and when to look for them. His format was one that I would personally use for all of my personal big year attempts over the following thirty years. Don Roberson was able in 1977 to see 444 species of birds in the state and this book documents that effort. An excellent book to gain insight to the birds of California.
