It has been a while since I have been thrust into a book from page one. The prologue alone drew me into the story and left me with a several haunting question? Exactly who, or should I say what is Carmine? Why would Guiliana have reason to fear him? How could Carmine have saved his wife? Moreover, what was to become of baby Amberlyn that Lenora birthed before she pasted?

In no time, I swallowed up the chapters hanging on every word on every page. And each chapter brought more and more gripping questions. Amber is gifted with the ability to see memories through a single touch. Because of this, Amber has spent eighteen years locked away in the eighteenth century estate that Carmine had purchased Lenora (her mother) as a wedding gift. Like any teenager; all Amber wants is a normal life and to venture out into the world, to live life; and attend a real college.

Amber acceptance into CFU less than thrills her father as he has given everything a teenage girl could ever want. Determined not to give into her father’s will and remain locked away she packed her bags; said her good-byes to Guiliana. She headed off to college with not even as much as a look from her father. Upon her arrival at CFU she bumps into Taye – who is a total hot dish— while looking for her dorm room. Once settled she begins to tour the campus— and meets Tristian—who is unremarkable compared to Taye. After she ditches Tristian, she heads to her room to settles in and meets her roommate Luna whose memories she could not see, thought Luna hugged her. Which begs me to question; why can’t Amber see Luna’s memories. After greetings, Luna sweeps Amber away to a bon fire party where they will be plenty of hot guys and Luna’s brother’s.

Overwhelmed with all the memories flowing all at once Amber and Luna make their way through the crowd and Luna introduces Amber to her *bf* Deacon Korey and her brother’s Locke and the *so hot* Tayelon. She is more than elated to see Taye there and the way Taye eyes her he too must feel some way. I was excited for Amber that her feeling for Taye was growing deeper as they grew closer. Amber and Taye find them self’s falling for one another all while surrounded by secrets and half- truths. And I felt bad for Tristian; it obvious he like Amber. He just has the stalker mentality that would drive even me to extra cautious around him.

I wander what Amber has managed to get herself into when Lucard entered her life. Are Taye, Tristian and Lucard supernatural? The author has left subtle hints to leave me wondering yet gripping enough to keep reading. The author has also managed to guard her words carefully and leaves me trying to figure everything out through to the end— if Taye Tristian and Lucard are sups; are they enemies or frenemies? Not to mention the importance to Luna’s *bf* Deacon Korey, if there is any. In addition, I mustn’t forget Taye reaction to Amber when the wolf howled. Yet in the back of my mind I was wondering about the wolf.— Could the wolf be Taye? Or the story behind the death of Taye’s father.

So many questions raced through my mind as I was reading. However, the plot was so well written I found I could not pull myself from the pages long enough to draw my own conclusions. I was elated to read a female lead who didn’t just accept the strange things going on around her and she questioned everything and demanded proof. Than when she did accept the truth she struggle with it as any human would.

I can’t say enough about this debut book, only do yourself a favor and pick up a copy you will not be sorry. I look forward to reading more stunning work pinned from Roxanne Kade. She is an up and coming author who has managed to bring a fresh new plot to the paranormal world of vampire’s werewolf’s and magic.

I received this book from Read 2 Review.

Overall, I really liked this book. One very positive thing about this story is that the setting of the book is college life. This is the gap that is missing in current market place. There just aren’t that many book that surround college life.

I do feel conflicted over this book, though. I really liked all the characters and felt they were believable for the most part. However, I found some of the situations and choices to be unbelievable at times.

Ok so even though I didn't get my copy from read 2 review, I learned about this book through them, so thanks for that guys!!

Now, I actually feel sorry for Amber, because everyone keeps secrets from this poor kid! But as she find out more and more, I think she handled it better than most would. I am pretty sure I would be a mess... or punching everyone who looked at me lol!

3 stars, I liked the book but there where also things that I didn't like about it. Sometimes the story went too fast, sometimes too slow. I liked the overal story, but it took me some time to enjoy it.

The story starts with a prologue, which is a bit confusing, but in chapter one we get to know the significance of it. Then the real story starts. The story is about Amber, a girl who has never been outside in her whole life and now she is going to attend college. The beginning went a bit too fast. I also didn't understand how Amber could act so normal and not be awed by the world, when she first get's outside. Then she gets to college and instantly falls in love with a boy she meets. Then the story slows down a bit and Amber get's used to college life, makes friends and falls in love. I found that she felt a bit too easy in love, she has never been outside before and not only does she instantly adapts to everything, but she also falls in love so fast. Their relationship progresses very fast too. I found it difficult to really get a sense of the character, but slowly we do get a sense of who everyone is. I also would've like to know more about the side characters and what their role is.

Also Amber is not just a normal person, but she has a gift. When she touches people she sees their memories. We don't really get to know much about this gift. Does she sees all memories or just some? And does how long she touches someone matters? And can she remember all those memories? I really found it dissapointing we didn't get to know more about her gift. I found it very interesting, but there was little attention for it in the book.

Also strange events are happening, Amber has strange dreams, she forgets some things and there are other events that give you a sign that something paranormal is up, but not until the end of the book do we get to know what is happening. I found the paranormal world and the thoughts behind it very interesting and very thought through. I really liked this part of the story, altough I think it took the author a bit too long before revealing what is happening. I won't go in too much detail, because I don't want to spoil anything.

To conclude I liked this story, and it has a lot of potential, but it just isn't great. I liked the paranormal twist and world in this story. The story sometimes moved too fast and soemtimes too slow. I will be reading the next book, becasue the ending makes me really curious about the next book.(less)

WOAAAHHH!! How do I put such an AMAZING book into a review that can do it justice??

I really did not expect to love this book as much as I did.. The only reason I wanted to read this and sign up for the R2R was because Roxanne wrote this and she's a fellow South African, Durbanite ;)

But this book was unfathomable, it was so amazing! And highly unpredictable most of the time :O

At first I thought maybe she's a werewolf but she wasn't and I'm really happy about that!!

There is quite a lot to like about this book. The characters are exciting and interesting. The mythology behind the storyline is great and makes me hope that we will learn more in subsequent books. The prologue sets up an amazing mystery that gives the reader a list of questions before the current story even begins. I loved this book!

Roxanne Kade is an amazing writer, her book drew me in, and then kept me reading up all night to finish this book! I literally couldn't put it down.

Therian is about a girl, Amber whose mother dies during childbirth,she is confined to and raised on her family's estate with only her father and Guiliana, housekeeper/mother figure. The book did not start out well for me. The prologue was too reminiscent of a very popular scene from a similar story in this genre, and I felt it lacked imagination. However, what kept me reading was the desire to know more about Amber, who proved to be an interesting character. The story itself was unique in several ways, and I enjoyed how the author developed several different types of characters that led us guessing as to who could be trusted and who was truly evil. The ending was another positive for the book. I actually felt Amber’s confusion and loss, and wanted to know more about what her future holds!

There were several aspects of the book however, that I felt were slightly unbelievable, even for a paranormal romance. Most of these probably could have been fixed with more description from the author, because at some points in the book I was left confused. For example, (view spoiler) Probably another round of editing would manage to fill some holes.

Overall, the book was a page-turner. I enjoyed following Amber though the normal joys and hurts of college life, and the storyline was interesting. I gave it 3 stars only because there were too many loose ends and hard to believe events. But I would read the second book!

First, as always the cover. The cover doesn't really do it for me. The moon is creepy looking, but the title being all lower case blends into the background, along with the series name. I did really enjoy the fact that the bloody crescent was on the beginning of each chapter of the e-book. Onto the novel, there was a certain Twilight-ism to it. This made it very predictable to me. (view spoiler) The characters are eerily similar, with the edition of a secondary creep/physco named Lucard. I found it almost impossible to like any of the characters. There was Amberlynn, naive, whiny, complainer, and SO weak. There was Tayelon, instantly possessive, overbearing, darkly hot and immature even though he's a Senior in college, he acts like a Freshmen in high school. There was this Tristian character, who I don't even know why he was there, other than for Amber to say was immature, even when she was acting like a complete toolbox herself. Then there was Lucard, the biggest toolbox of them all. This guy was creepy , crazy, possessive, always showing up at the oddest moments and saying odd things. I still don't get why his butt was there, but he reminded me of Larant from Twilight. Then there was dream vampire, who Amber has never met, only in her dreams, and when he's real she acts like a complete mush pile. He's just as creepy with his quiet, supposedly caring, but totally possessive and phsyco-ness. There was one character I did like--Luna. She was funny, cute and a good friend. She seemed to have a brain, which made me even happier.(view spoiler) The ending was also kind of what the, but it saved the whole thing for me because now I have to know what happens in the next one. So I'll pick it up because it ended so strangely.
As for the writing--I found it overly descriptive,describing things that I didn't care about (like what she chooses to eat each time she eats). Then again, I am known to really live by and read by the "show don't tell" tenant. The sentences were also at times choppy, and it caused the pacing to go from slow to fast, back to slow. Then there was the huge lecture that Taye gives about the wolves, which Amber just listens to without questioning for four pages. I understand that some things can't be drawn out and shown through the length of the book, but I would have rather skipped the descriptions about food, looks and needless things and learned about the wolves slowly instead of all at once. Overall, this book held my attention and the ending makes it so I must read the next one. I highly suggest this book for those that loved Twilight and were on Team Jacob--this book is Twilight in reverse.

I just finished reading Therian: The Bloody Crescent. Kade certainly has a firm grasp of what young adults love to read these days. The story rivals and eclipses the Twilight series in my opinion, and is reminiscent of the popular television series, True Blood. It's not difficult to imagine Therian being scooped up by a producer and converted to the big screen.

When I first started reading this, it seemed like it was going to be set in the past (Keep in mind I don’t usually remember what is in the book summary by the time I read a book). I think the beginning was a little slower for me because of that…and because my hubby was home and kept talking to me, lol. I was glad when the story moved to and stayed in more modern times.

Amberlyn Darsky leaves her father's home with a hope for freedom by going to college. She has never been in the real world due to her father's secrets. It was a bit unrealistic, but it didn't bother me. There were reasons behind her being hidden from the world. Her father didn't even want her to go to college and later in the story you begin to understand why. And not to give too much away, but his reasonings are due to do a vampiric past..:)

Great read with lots going on. Werewolves and vampires...love it. Amberlyn is extremely sheltered and finally gets to experience the world when she leaves for college, against her fathers wishes. This book tried so hard to be good but in the end, it failed miserably. I could not for the life of me get into this book. I couldn't connect to the characters and I did not feel invested in the story line. And frankly, Amberlyn was on my nerves with her reverse species(ism). You're not normal either lady, get over yourself!

Overall, this book was unconvincing and uninsipiring. Not one I'd reccommend to my friends.:(
