Alien spirit guides, colored auras, and healing experiences - these are just a few parts of Jonathan Talat Phillips's "The Electric Jesus" that may make a skeptic raise an eyebrow. But this book isn't antithetical to skepticism, and it isn't a departure from logic or rationalism. I consider myself a skeptical person, and it has no bearing on my acceptance and love for these spiritual and mystical experiences brought on by plant medicines, most notably, ayahuasca, the "star" plant of this book.

Now that I've had a bit of time to reflect, this book seems shallower and slimmer than it did after I finished reading. In retrospect this seems like one of those books written as a career move. Hold this up side by side with a book of similar conceit (how I got where I am today, and all the weird adventures I had along the way), such as Robert Anton Wilson's Cosmic Trigger, and it is glaringly obvious.
