Recommends it for: Anybody over 15.
This was the first piece I read by Diamond. I decided to give it a try because he seems to like a lot of the same authors I do, and this looked interesting. And I enjoyed it, thought he captured the mental decline of Devane really well. Oh, and his naming of Devane was quite clever too.

It was very well written. The author has a nice steady rhythm and towards the end I pretty much figured it out how it was going to end, but I still enjoyed seeing it play out.
