So far the count is: Aya 2 - Death 0, but that’s a record that may be broken in the very near future.

The shy 16-year-old loner and her little brother narrowly escape being flattened by a bus when Gabriel, a classmate, is warned by a mysterious green-eyed boy of Aya’s impending demise. He races to her aid, not only saving her life but bringing with him new friends, his twin...more

Wow - go M.B, what an awesome read!

What struck me about this book the most was that it has such an interesting concept. It's not the popular supernatural stuff going around right now so it feels fresh. As it was said before the teenagers were believable and wow - they had a lot to handle. No one handled everything perfectly, another believable aspect and made me feel as if this could have happened to anybody at high school. Another thing that made me think hard about this story was adult involve...more

The thing is, that Aya reminds Christoph of his lost love. So, he tells Gabriel to save her. With the help of new friends Jackson, Gabriel's sister Marisol, and Sara, the group sets out to discover why this chain of events is happening since this isn't the first time Aya has escaped death. I read the first chapter almost a year ago and loved the concept. I especially liked the twins; they were a dynamic character coupling to be sure. Can't wait until the book is officially released and hope that MB will send me a review copy. :-)

It's about time!

The rating is more like 3.5 stars but I don't have that option. :) I also want to thank the author for giving me the opportunity to read Near Death prior to release to the public.

Near Death is MB Mulhall's first publication and it is geared towards the YA audience. I found reading Near Death to be enjoyable and appreciated the fresh take on the current supernatural trends. The back stories of the characters were interesting (a little stereotypical but with a spin) and translated to a well-thoug...more

General Comments

From the moment I read the book description I knew I would like this book and I was not disappointed. While far from perfect, Near Death was one of those books that reminded me that perfect writing, beautifully developed characters, or a kickass storyline are not the only determinants of a great story. Another equally important component is the writer’s ability to connect with their readers on an emotional level and that’s where Near Death won me over.

This review was originally posted on my blog, Ramblings of a Daydreamer. You can find it, and many more reviews at the blog.

Near Death was a story with a very unique concept. There were a varied range of characters, and I found it interesting - and a nice change from the norm - to have different ethnic groups represented.

Out of all the characters, oddly enough, I think my favorite was Sara. She was completely psychotic, and I kept wondering what insane thing she would do or say next. She made me...more

I wanted more from this book. So much more.

I wanted a bit of history about the characters. I want to know if they were popular and why Gabe chose to befriend Aya There is so much to this book, and stuff is missing I feel.

I did enjoy the story although parts of it just made me shrug my shoulder. I am interested in the next book so I will see if I pick it up.

Great first book. A book that grabs you on the first couple of pages and pull you in.

While I love vampires, it's always nice to change things up and Near Death was a nice, paranormal change. The characters were quite the typical teenagers. (Aya is an absolute sweetheart.) They all reacted to the situation they were in rawly, made mistakes, refused to discuss mistakes, and have their moody and/or impulsive teenage moments which often led to the mistakes. LOL Definitely reminded me of my teenage years... Minus the death Gods. ;) I was eager to turn the page and find out how it wou...more

Overall, I would say this is 3.5 stars, honestly, but goodreads won't let me give half a star! Full review pending, and should be up later this week. :-D

A Jersey girl, born and bred, she spends much of her time scouring the boardwalks for images to capture and conversations to overhear.
