A Jane Austed Devotional is a delightful little book that I have been enjoying reading. Every day I have been reading one of the devotionals, each includes a small scene from one of Austen's novels, a few paragraphs on the scene and what we can learn from it, and a short Scripture that relates to the scene from the book.

The first thing that I noticed and love about A Jane Austen Devotional is the beautiful hardbound cloth cover of this book. It's really stunning to look at. This book was an interest to me as a lover of all things Jane. The idea of combining my love for this timeless author and my faith intrigued me.
The author takes passages from each of Austen's books and then gives a short explanation as to why a particular passage is against/in agreement with what the Lord would want of us. Woolsey backs up...more

A must have if you are a lover of Jane Austen and Jesus Christ. This book is a wonderful blend of tidbits from Jane's books and Biblical passages. The lessons put forth are related to Ms. Austen's characters with a perfect blending of her writings and those from the scriptures.
I received this book as a NetGalley egalley, but I will purchase as soon as available, this is one I want to keep with me at all times.

What a lovely book – and many thanks to Kara for offering me a copy when she was pruning her bookshelves! I did/have/will most heartily enjoy it. There are probably over 100 individual devotionals, each just one spread of pages. Usually one page is a few paragraphs from a Jane Austen book (one of her primary six) – the other side has a few more paragraphs about what life lesson can be gained from the JA excerpt, neatly incorporating Biblical truths and the characters from the JA story. Titles/to...more
As the previous book of this series "A Charles Dickens devotional" this book too takes from some Austen's book excerpts over religious issues as an example to praise the lord and being a good christian. It's not for me as already said, but it was nice reading again some sentences from some of my favourite books.

Each devotional takes up two pages, with the right page featuring a passage from one of Austen’s novels, and the left page showing how the passage can teach us lessons from the scriptures. A related scripture is referenced at the bottom of the devotional.
The book succeeds in showing how these seemingly innocent passages in Austen’s novels can spur us to think about our own actions, faults, and struggles.

Its such a warm + rich devotional. I love the added clips from all of Austen's novels, plus a dialog about what was just read that really details Austen's writing. I think the actual devotion is written very wisely. Even the titles of each day are encouraging.
I have one thing negative to say about this, and its just that some of the devotions are a bit of a stretch to fit around one of Jane Austen's story lines. But most devotion days are right on.
