Oh, I loved it! Another really funny, over-the-top, steamy HOT Neighbor From Hell romance. IMHO, this was just as good (if not a wee bit better) than Playing for Keeps.

See, Zoe’s a plump girl, and Trevor has a list of standards that his future wife needs to meet. Zoe meets none of them, but it doesn’t matter, because even though in Trevor’s head she’s not perfect, his heart has him feeling differently…only it takes him FOREVER to realize it. I cracked up as Trevor kept convincing himself that she is nothing that he wants, but being he’s such a “giver”, this is what drives him to take care of her. He also helps satisfy her sexual needs, his way of protecting her from all the evil men out there who will just take advantage of her...yeah right Trevor!!! Oh and the two of them were insatiable, and did “it” six ways to Sunday…very HOT! Zoe held her own against Trevor and as much as he played her, she played him right back. They interacted so well and made an amusing couple.

Initially I thought that since the first book ended 10 years in the future that this book would continue from that point. What a pleasant surprise, when I realized that it was only 2 years later and that Haley and Jason were expecting their second child. So, not only did we get Trevor and Zoe’s story, we got crazy Jason and the lovely Haley too. Jason hasn’t changed much and fatherhood has made him nuttier and even more arrogant, didn’t think THAT was possible, but he is. When Jason and Trevor were together it was like Laurel and Hardy on testosterone. Food is what drives this family and they ate so much I started to get a stomachache, although I think some of it was from laughing so much.

Just another fun well-written book from this talented author, with witty dialogue, crazy antics and charming loveable characters!

Shelves: contemporary, 2012, silly-lol

Don't you just lurve it when a non-conventional heroine (who was not tall, slender and willowy) bagged the hot Hero? And in this case the short and plump girl totally brought the wicked stud to his knees.

Trevor was not as bad as his cousin Jason, but a Bradford is still a Bradford, known for their love for all that is food. And Trevor's antics were equally juvenile in this book too. Love for another Bradford in the future books.

However, Trevor is mortified when he finds himself attracted to Zoe. After all, she's the complete opposite of his dream woman. She's plain, can't cook, and worst of all (to him) she's fat. Thinking it's just a phase that he'll eventually get over, if he screws her enough, Trevor proposes a friends with benefits relationship.

Its extremely rare when I have to skip over sex scenes between protagonists because the hero disgusts me so much that the last thing I want to read about is him getting an orgasm. I loathed Trevor in this book, to me, he had no redeeming qualities. The only reason why I didn't stop reading is because I enjoyed the first book in the series, Playing for Keeps, so I kept hoping that Mathewson would somehow save the book... but it never happened.

Trevor's demeanor is supposed to come off as humorous and endearing, as in "Oh ha-ha, he has no regard for other people's feelings except his own. Oh tee-hee, he thinks everyone around him should be grateful for any little thing he does while he completely ignores all the things others do for him." As you can tell, this did not work for me. Trevor thinks he's god's gift to women and that Zoe should be grateful he's even deigning to talk to her because she's not up to his normal exacting standards. For her part, Zoe does everything for him except wipe his ass and instead of acknowledging all the crap that she does, Trevor completely writes it off as his due. Yes, he's paying her to clean his apartment and get his groceries, but what she does for him extends well beyond that. Somehow this attitude is supposed to come off as endearing and cute, but it just worked to frustrate me. Especially at the end, when Trevor begins to show some character growth by thinking that maybe he's been taking Zoe for granted and that his treatment of her has been pretty shitty. Of course, it immediately gets shot to hell when two seconds after that he basically thinks, "Screw that! How dare she not believe I really want to be with her?!" Trevor is just an awful awful human being.

And oh my god, the body hate in this book! There are so many malicious throw-away comments about Zoe and her weight that I lost count. Even Trevor hops on this band wagon by constantly thinking Zoe is too fat to be with him. In fact, he goes out of the way to avoid associating with her in public, even in a friendly sense, all she gets is an aloof head nod when they see each other. Trevor also constantly hears people saying disparaging things about her and just shrugs it off. Like, "yup, she's fat. Its not my problem that she keeps over-hearing co-workers malicious comments about her weight and that its hurting her so much that she's starving herself in the attempt to get to a super-model size, just so they'll stop." I wanted to smack this guy so hard. I mean seriously. He can't say one thing in her defense, even as a friend because the guys might get the impression that he actually has feelings for a woman that doesn't look like a Victoria's Secret model? God, I hated this. By the end of the book I wanted to give Zoe a cookie and tell her jump ship on this relationship.(less)

R.L. Mathewson is quite a find. I'm never quite as grateful for GoodReads as when I love a book, I wouldn't have picked up if not for my friends.

Another great installment in the series! A really fun book.

So, we're back with the Bradfords and their food obsession. This time the dastardly neighbor is Trevor, Jason's cousin. His little tenant is Zoe.

Zoe has had a bad day/year/life. She's survived foster care, a shitty job and termination. She is now jobless and pissed off. And she will not let her neighbor still her food too! "You're beautiful, Zoe," he said, realizing at that moment just how beautiful she really was. From her beautiful soft brown hair to her stubborn little chin she was beautiful.
"No, I'm not," she said with a snort and an eye roll as she averted her eyes.
His eyes narrowed dangerously on her. "Are you calling me a liar?"
"More like delusional," she said with a snort.
"How dare you question my taste, woman?" he demanded. "If I say you're beautiful then you're beautiful so get the hell over it!" he snapped.
"Look, I appreciate the compliment, but-"
"Out," he said, dropping onto his back and folding his arms over his chest as he stubbornly looked away from her.
"But-"
"I said out, woman!"
"This is my apartment," Zoe pointed out, sounding close to laughing.
"Then you know where the door is. Now get out, woman, and don't you dare come back until you're ready to apologize to me," he said, waving a dismissive hand in the direction of the door.

I did like how the extreme dieting that Zoe is doing is not portrayed as ok. Trevor actually sees and comments it's wrong for her to starve herself. Other than a very, very assholish comment at the start he doesn't try to belittle her or make her feel less.

Trevor is unbelievably arrogant. Kind of like Lothaire, but without the excuse of being a millenia old vampire. He can do no wrong and the little people are around so they can feed him. For his wife he wants perfection and Zoe is not perfect, so... I had a problem with his thoughts at a certain point. Thinking she's not in his league(not pretty enough) is just wrong all around. Still, it was sweet watching him become the Adoring Disciple of Zoe. The Bradford obsession with food and Trevor's arrogance (which is a consequence of an unhappy childhood) are scary...

"Of course he could order food, except for the fact that he was still on the banned list for most of the delivery places.
Bastards."

Instead of getting mad, which under normal circumstances he probably would have done, he leaned over and pressed a kiss to the back of one of the hands that was holding her head tightly. If he didn't know that she had a head injury and was obviously out of it, he might have taken that personally, but he knew she loved him.
How could she not? He was so damn giving after all, he thought as he ducked out of the way before her blind swing could connect with his jaw."

I loved this book, but I preferred the first one. Trevor's disparaging thoughts, her low self-esteem and the friends with benefits storyline lessened my enjoyment a bit. Still, a great read.

So when she loses her job over something most bosses would probably be happy with, and her life starts going down hill from there, she doesn't expect it to get any better. She certainly didn't expect any help from the loud jerk next door, but then again she has nothing to lose, so she puts her trust in him and hopes for the best. What she didn't expect was the once in a lifetime opportunity that he offers her through an arrangement where they both benefit and no one is supposed to get hurt, but she should have known better because her luck has never been that good.

Like most Bradfords, Trevor has a soft spot for food, but that's about all. He leads a pretty straightforward life and likes to keep things simple, and that includes his relationships. He wants the perfect woman and knows exactly what she'll be like. So when he discovers much to his horror that he's thinking about his frumpy little neighbor, he decides the best way to get his head straight is by working her out of his system. He'll keep her around, but only until he finds perfection...

This was a really fun book, one in which I enjoyed immensely- Even though this is the second book in the A Neighbor from Hell series, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. Initially, I actually had no idea this book was part of a series until I had already started Perfection- And of course once I got a taste of the hero Trevor, there was no stopping me from continuing to read this book. He's unbelievably arrogant, and a complete jerk. He's also a man with a strict criteria when looking for a wife that personifies perfection- Which is everything that Zoe's not. She's survived so much in her life, and suffers from low self-esteem issues. She's over-weight, and has a difficult time accepting compliments- Something that Trevor has a hard time understanding.

I can't even count the number of times that I literally laughed out loud over the banter between Zoe and Trevor! R.L. Mathewson certainly has a way with making a story entertaining and intertwined with just the right amount humor. (That's not a trait I tend to like much in the books that I read, so the fact that I enjoyed this story so much is really impressive.) I'm looking forward to reading the next installment to this series, as well as going back to book number one and reading Jason's story- I just can't get enough of these food-obsessed Bradford men! Funny, hot read, that I couldn't put down. It is my favorite so far between the two of the series and I am glad to see there will be third one. I knew soon as Trevor stated his list of what his future wife's requirements were that it was going to be fun watching him fall madly in love with his future wife's complete opposite.

The Bradford men were once again over the top with their food consumption issues, a little silly or too much at times, but some good laughs as they passed that gene to their off springs. Trevor did have some of those jerk tendencies that I love and Zoe ripped them away eventually. Trevor had a little bit of Tate Jackson from Sweet Dreams in him, especially how he belittled Zoe for her looks and weight. He demanded that she would see things his way, he thought he was a god, which I believe he had some godlike qualities and he was beyond arrogant. Trevor also channeled a little bit of Bobby Tom's personality from Heaven, Texas, thinking he was doing Zoe a favor by being with her because he was so much better than her. He tried to manipulate her and finally she cracked him.

I also loved seeing Jason and Haley. I am still laughing when Zoe first meets Jason and he is calling sexual harassment. She didn't know what to make of all the crazy Bradford men.

I like this author. She is good at making you laugh, gives some some good anticipation anxiety, makes you tingling with the heat she puts in her sex scenes, and I like that her epilogues gives glimpses years out about how wonderful life is with the characters.

Okay - non-existent cover, but loved the blurb. I found this on GR and don't even remember who turned me on to this, but it has been read recently by several people and I wanted a fast, fun read.

I have a few issues with this book, but very few. One thing that kept bothering me, but on reflection was probably necessary to the story, is Zoe's constant weight issues and Trevor's overlooking and being with her anyway. But, as said, probably necessary to this story.

This series is rapidly becoming one of my all time favorites!
I don't read a lot of adult contemporary, and only have a few that earned it's way to my favorite shelf. Shannon Stacy books, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Kiss an Angel and J. Lynn's,Tempting the Best Man are the only ones that I tend to go back to when ever I'm in need of a smile and looking for something more then what YA can provide. Sexy. Fun. Adorable. These are just some of the words that pop in mind when I think about these books.

First off, I'm gonna admit that I kinda loved Jason justatinybitmore, but I think that's because Trevor was a really asshat when we first meet him. I didn't care for his standards when it came to his ideas of the 'perfect' wife and it kinda pissed me off how he expected Zoe to be a 'beck and call' girl. But that's the beauty of this book. It takes a less then desirable guy with more then his share of issues and has him growing and maturing throughout the story, proving that love has a way of unexpectedly changing your outlook when it comes to the idea's of perfection. Perfection is only achieved when the flaws become apart of the reasons you fall in love. It takes that ridiculous list of expectations and burns it away, replacing it with something more real then you could ever hope for.

I really love Zoe! She's the perfect gal to take on one of these Bradfords men. She has a zing and zip about her that is infectious. Totally being able to handle her own and then some. I hated what she was doing to herself and apart of me still thinks it's because of what Trevor (when he was an asshat) said to her in the very beginning. He more then makes up for it, but it was hard to see what Zoe was putting herself through.
So so awesome to see Jason and Haley again!! They were my favorite first after all;) I also loved Jared! If you've read the first book, then you'd understand the kick that these Bradfords men have about sports and their obsession when it comes to food. This provided endless entertainment and earned a few strange looks from my family, wondering if mommy did indeed finally lose it.
The romance and their 'arrangement' was freaken hawt as hell. Seriously, some of the best scenes and moments I've ever read.
But what I loved about this book the most is that it's just so incredibly squeeze-worthy. It made me feel all gushy inside sporting one those stupid ear to ear smiles, which I'm still wearing.

Bottom line. I just absolutely loved this book. R.L Mathewson has a gift when it comes to creating fun filled plots with irresistible characters and toe-curling moments that will leave you begging for more.
This is one romantic comedy that I think everyone should read.
It's simply, a total blast!

Trevor annoyed me (just look at my status update to see how much!)… he made two egregious errors before the end of the first chapter that were hard to forgive:

1. He messed with a girl’s pizza
2. After taking her pizza, he implied she was fat

Ok. Yes, it’s true that he didn’t actually say the words but that doesn’t excuse what he did say.

Luckily, his amusing food antics (pizza stealing aside) redeemed him, along with him getting Zoe a new job.

I loved this book!!! The second in the ‘Neighbour from Hell’ series, was just as fun and fluffy as the first book - Playing for Keeps.

Despite sharing the same building, Trevor and Zoe don’t have much to do with each other. The fact that she’s overweight and his friends and work buddies will make fun of him makes Trevor wary in letting anyone know what Zoe means to him. Zoe is fine with the friends with benefits thing and Trevor really makes her happy in bed. He’s a big giver and doesn’t mind her curves at all, even as she starve herself to lose weight, which to her surprise Trevor is angry about. Soon Trevor can’t stop thinking about Zoe and wants much more from her. He decides she must stay with him and make him happy until he tires of her, which may be another few decades or so.

I have a love/hate relationship with Perfection. It’s pretty much the same tone as Playing for Keeps, but Trevor is a major asshat. My dislike for him grew during one scene when his co-workers are making fun of Zoe’s weight and calling her rude names. Trevor allows it because he feels if he comes to her defense, they’ll figure out he has feelings for her and in turn make fun of him. There were many instances where Trevor would put down Zoe in his mind while wanting to have sex with her every which way. Toward the end he was somewhat redeemed, but he’s pretty much selfish until the end. Also the non-stop obsession with food for him and the amount he eats is so over the top and unrealistic. Zoe has very little backbone and I felt so bad for her, even though she has many orgasms thanks to Trevor.

I was at odds with Perfection overall because it was too zany and Trevor is just too selfish and I wanted to chuck him over a cliff. But even with my issues with Trevor, I did enjoy this one but with some reservations.(less)

After a start that had me wanting to smack Trevor multiple times for his mean and jackass-y comments and actions, he did finally turn things around at the end. Though Jason and Haley from the first novel, Playing For Keeps, makes several appearances in this story, this story involved another Bradford family member, Trevor and his shy and sweet tenant, Zoe. Once again, I could not put down this book and finished it in one sitting. I related a lot to Zoe's character and found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. I wanted nothing but good things for her. Enter Trevor. He's her landlord and never had any interest in Zoe and her frumpiness.

Trevor is determined to find his idealistic woman, his perfect woman. He has a strict criteria of what he's looking for and Zoe is far from meeting that criteria. However, after putting his foot in his mouth after Zoe has a day from hell, Trevor feels the need to help her. Soon they come to an arrangement of sorts. It starts out as an innocent arrangement, but as things progressed between them, they start a not-so-innocent arrangement. Though this new arrangement is mutually beneficial and the terms are clearly laid down in the beginning, they start to develop an unbreakable relationship. They both strongly deny it at first, but it was inevitable that they were made for each other. It made for a fantastic read.

There were SEVERAL times I laughed out loud and felt heartache. The buffet scene had me laughing. Bradfords and buffets is a recipe for disaster. When they get word that a new buffet was opening in town, they all gathered together, but none of them sit together. Why? "Because if one of them is going to get banned today and if we're not careful he'll take us all down with him". So fabulously funny.

Love, love, LOVED this story. The author is brilliant and I can't wait until the next Neighbor from Hell installment comes out. I can't get enough of these Bradford men. =)(less)

This was my first book by this author but most definitely will not be my last. To say this book is funny, sexy and sweet all rolled into one would be selling it short. I laughed so hard at times I had tears running down my face. It's not an incredibly deep or thought provoking book, but if you're looking for something entertaining and light I highly recommend this book!

Yep, I read both books in this series in one day. And it was one of the best days in recent memory. Barring the Luke Bryan concert I went to last week. But that goes without saying. Anyway.

This book was so good. I liked it a bit more in certain places than the first book (mostly because there wasn't a Big Mis late in Trevor and Zoe's relationship), but it was also a more emotional read for me. This book was so good. I liked it a bit more in certain places than the first book (mostly because there wasn't a Big Mis late in Trevor and Zoe's relationship), but it was also a more emotional read for me. Playing for Keeps had me laughing out loud more than this book did, but I was able to relate to Zoe much more than I was Haley. I love all the characters in these books, but Zoe's voice and struggles with her weight made her much more real to me.

Trevor was an unapologetic ass (as all Bradford men are it seems), but he was just as lovable as Jason was. I also appreciated that he wanted more from Zoe before it all went tits up and that he took it all in stride and his determination to keep Zoe never flagged.

There were so many great lines in this too. I went a little wild with the highlighting function on my Kindle. A few of my favourites:

"Why wouldn't I be in here?" he asked as he washed his body. "You and I have an agreement."

"To save water by sharing showers?" She asked, confused and wondering just how much she'd drank last night.

"You burned my shirt?" she practically shrieked. She'd loved that shirt. It was really cute with this bubbled lettering and cartoony baseball.

"Uh huh, we even took a vote."

"You voted to burn my shirt?"

"Yup."

"Seriously?"she asked, wondering if he was kidding.

"It was a real family bonding moment. There were tears and hugs and everything."

(and finally)

"I may have let you have your naughty little way with me for the past of months, but that doesn't mean I'm going to allow you to keep treating me like some dirty little boy toy. If you want to live with me then I expect you to put a ring on my finger," he said, holding up his left and an wiggling his ring finger to punctuate his words.

I really wish I could write a more eloquent review. If this book blew hair monkey balls I'd be writing a dissertation on my hate for it. But since I loved it so much, I can only say that both books in this series are going on both my Favourite Contemporary Romance and my Favourite Books Ever lists. I can't wait for the third book!(less)

As such, any woman he’s gonna get serious about will have to meet a certain criteria- chief among them, knowing how to cook and having a perfect body to make every other man jealous he’s got her. His plain little tenant of course doesn’t fit that bill- on both counts- but he feels bad for some things he did and said, so he’s gonna have to make it up to her. Graciously (insert sarcasm) offering her a job to take care of him- as well as leading her to a new position at his uncle’s construction company, he’s pretty satisfied with the results. Until she tries to ruin it by talk of finding a man to satisfy her sexual urges.

The story starts with Zoe having a crappy day, losing a job for doing the right thing and that day had went downhill from there. The only thing she had wanted to do was drown her sorrows in takeout food and forget for the evening she will have to start looking for a new place to live. That all changes when her jerk of neighbor and, unbeknownst to her, landlord, takes her food. The row that ensues ends up making her nothing but frustrated- but also forging a tentative bond between them for some reason.

Thanks to his help she does get a good job and is able to make some extra spending money by helping him out around the house. When she decides it’s time to step up her sex life as well- the jerk ruins it again but not without making a tempting offer.

Because somehow they’ve managed to become friends, and he was one gorgeous hunka hunka, she agrees to his proposal. So friends with benies it is, until he realizes it’s not enough. Can he convince her she really is the woman of his dreams, despite his earlier protestations otherwise?

Okay, Trevor really comes off like an ass in the beginning of this book, unless you happen to realize much of his arrogance and overweening confidence has to do with his overcompensation for being abandoned by a dick of a father and only getting a GED in a family of smarties. I got him right way- so he never really bothered me. In fact I found it all humorous. (Big jerk.) Sure he doesn’t stick up for her like he should’ve in the beginning, but he makes up for it later- and that folks is what is called character development.

The Bradfords’ and their over the top eating habits are, of course, ridiculous but it makes me laugh too. I come from a family whom love to show love with food and whom also love to eat, so yeah I get it.

Although I ended up liking Zoe, the heroine, a lot even, I didn’t like how she just seemed to roll over for everyone- I was all choked up over all those people calling her fat and was a bit frustrated she never leaned out the window and said, “Hello- right here!” when she overheard the construction guys talking about her. PLUS I wish the author would have shown her getting justice for the shitty way she was fired from her other job. However, the author did a sufficient enough job explaining why she never kicked up a fuss, so I was okay with it. (Doesn’t mean I liked it.)

The best part however were these two humping all of the place. Funny- and yes very sexy.

So I’m giving Perfection a 4 out of 5. Whereas I thoroughly enjoyed the story, a toning down a bit of the Bradford personality would go a long way in making this series even better.

A really fun book! This book was just as hilarious as the first one. A perfect read for a Sunday afternoon. While I was reading it I had this biiiiig grin plasted on my face :)

Witty, cute, funny, with no damaged or tortured characters, with an expected HEA book. I enjoyed it!

How can I not with a such unusual heroine, Zoe- not that amaziangly beautiful girl everybody want, but a short and plump girl, with a great sense of humor. Zoe is a totally sweetheart, with a little problem - low self esteem...more

At some point I got a little direction in my life and tried my hand at emergency medicine, since I am, or at least was, deathly afraid of needles I opted for the fun job in EMS, an EMT. It was a fun job, a bit stressful, but I learned a great deal and had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. I learned a great deal from my patients and have never forgotten the wisdom they imparted on me. After a short stint as a Residential Home worker I decided to try the stay-at-home mom job and found out something very important.

I can't just sit around with nothing to do while I try to be deathly silent so that I don't wake up one of my children and send them into a blood curdling screaming fit. So, to fill the time I started to read again. When I was in school I was a bookworm, but got away from it as I grew older. I was drawn back into my love of reading by Julia Quinn's What Happens In London. It was a wonderful, witty book and I fell instantly in love with romance novels.

Some of the romance novels that I read were great and I couldn't get enough, I started to play with the idea of writing a book. Several months later I finally gave in and tried. For four months straight I worked day and night until finally I finished my first book. Then of course I re-read what I wrote, cringed and deleted the entire book and started over again. I started working on other projects and soon had two finished books, Tall, Dark & Lonely: A Pyte Series Novel and A Humble Heart: A Hollywood Heart's Novel. It was a very exciting time except for one little problem......

I had absolutely no idea what to do with the books now that they were done. So, of course I put the books aside and forgot about them for a little while I worked on other books. Months later I decided that maybe I should do something with them. I looked into getting published, admittedly not very hard since what I read about the publishing process wasn't exactly making me jump and down with excitement.

After reading an article about self-publishing I knew that was the way I wanted to go. I like the freedom to write what I want, when I want and publish a story that I hope others will enjoy reading. It gives me a great deal of freedom and allows me to retain full control over my work, which of course allows me to set the prices of my books and make them affordable for everyone :) Which of course is the reasoning behind the $0.99 price tag for my books.

That's how I became a writer and why I self-publish. Well, that and I'm pretty laid back and don't want to be hassled with contractual obligations. That would just cut into my writing time, time with my kids, reading time and my hot cocoa addiction.
