Kawaii is the Japanese work for cute, adorable, or lovable. Cuteness is a large part of the Japanese culture from Hello Kitty, which emerged in the 1970s, to the cute mascots of today's banks and airlines. Kawaii arises from the need to have a little bit of child-like innocence and naivete in your life, regardless of age or gender. You'll see kawaii mascots for companies l...more

What a fun book! With 22 different patterns to choose from, there is definitely something for everyone. :) I love to make things and especially to make things for kids.
This book has six different chapters with multiple projects in each. They are:
Key Chains
Storage Accessories
Wearable Accessories
Plushies
Clothing
Home Decorations
I have to admit that I didn’t like ALL of the projects, but the ones that I did like, I LOVED.

Now that I have 2 babies at home it seems that most of the crafty things I do is something for the them. Not only that but I have been looking for things I can do with them when they are a bit older. I don't know if sewing will be among what they will like to do but I definitely liked reading this book and deciding which projects I'm going to do for them. In the introduction it is mentioned that Kaway means cute, adorable in japanese and that is certainly true of the projects you find here.

I had this book on hold at the library, but it was so popular that I was at the end of a lengthy list waiting to get it. Not wanting to be well into my dotage before I got a chance to read it, I broke down and bought a copy, and I'm thrilled that I did.
Sew Kawaii is well thought out and colorfully presented, with lots of in-progress and finished project photos (which is extremely important in a how-to book.) The projects are simple and simply adorable. The instructions are complete and comprehen...more

When I saw this on NetGalley, I knew that I had to read it! Normally I don’t review non-fiction, but with a book that is all about making things that are Kawaii, I couldn’t resist. This book is full of adorable “kawaii” projects that I can’t wait to make! Time and getting ready to move back into a dorm has prevented me from being able to make anything yet, but I hope to buy this book once it comes out and make something for Ohayocon, a convention I’m going to in January. What I liked the most ab...more
I have not been doing a lot of crafting lately, but I did get my very first sewing machine recently and I purchased a ton of fabric. This book has some really cute and fun projects that I would love to make for my sister, my baby nephew and my fiancees nieces. I'd love to try making these cute altered hoodies, hats and some scarfs - especially the zombie kitty hat, the vampire bunny scarf and the devil kitty hoodie.

This is a very fun and creative sewing book for teens and adults. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I loved the step by step pictures that accompanied the text and I feel that this book is very user friendly.
The author includes basic sewing instructions at the beginning of the book that is very helpful to novices. She also breaks down the projects into Easy, Experienced Beginner and Intermediate. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow and include the patterns at the back...more

Yes, I know, it's another craft book with a pun. I was actually drawn to this because of the word "Kawaii" in the title. I was actually planning to try the crafts out before reviewing but something stopped me. And that is, the lack of a sewing machine.
In the book, the author makes it seem like a sewing machine is so much better than hand-sewn (maybe it is). But if you haven't sewn before, I wonder how you're going to make these projects, since a sewing machine appears indispensable for most of t...more

Sew Kawaii! is an impeccably designed book with bright photographs and bits of text arranged to motivate rather than overwhelm readers.
Absolute beginners might be a little intimidated when certain steps are not described in detail, such as when you are told to sew leaves onto the strawberry keychain without step by step details. Just practice on some scrap fabric and you'll find what's best for you. Beginners should be sure to study the different types of stitches Choly describes. Choly endeavor...more

Super cute and adorable projects are contained within this book! The best part is that these seem like beginner level projects so anyone can whip up a few kawaii keychains...dumplings anyone? While the author does make heavy use of a sewing machine, I intend to try some of these by hand. Like the keychains.
I read a copy of this book via NetGalley but this is one I'm going to have to purchase! I want to make the pillows and plushies and keychains and the suishi blanket. TOO MUCH CUTENESS!

This book is exactly what you would think--super cute sewing patterns and ideas. It includes all the patterns you need to make about 20 different projects. They'd make great gifts for kids or for adults who like really cutesy things. They would also be fun projects to try with beginning sewers. The directions are all accompanied by clear colorful pictures, so you can see exactly what you're supposed to be doing. It's perfect for visual learners!
I love this book! I'm so glad I got it! There are so many projects that I want to do in here! If you love sewing, or are thinking of starting to sew, this is a great book! I have been sewing for a few months now and this book is really nice because it's not too hard, but it's not super easy boring projects. I would definitely recommend this book to any sewing lovers!
wow thought I already wrote a review on this one. Guess it didn't stick! Ok, second time around .....
Having no idea what Kawaii really was when I got the book, it did a pretty good job of showing me how to make some of my very own. These cute "Kawaii" items are fun and can be made in so many bright colors and designs. Great for gifts for kids and teens alike, even some adults would probably enjoy these cute and cuddly items.
