Ren and Kyoko are busy becoming Cain and Setsu (on an unrelated note, I wonder if "Setsu" is pronounced Set-soo or Sets, since the "u" is often silent in anglicized Japanese words). Kyoko gets hit on by a bunch of scruffy looking hoodlooms who want to take her home and have a good time. Kyoko as Setsu says she doesn't have a problem with that, but they'd have to get past her big brother first.

I fell in love with this manga immediately.
It drew me in and kept me there. Sadly to say i have been reading it from the internet and hate to wait in between chapters.
I've also been watching it's anime and I've seen the first episode of the TV show extravagant challenge based on this manga.
But nothing beats the manga because it has all the extra details that are not shown elsewhere.

Uhhhhh....I don't get it? (<--she phrases this as a question). I really...don't. In regards to Ren's watch, I mean to say. I mean...it's a watch? (<--still phrasing this as a question, mind you). What is the significance of this? He essentially behaved as if the world were ending when he forgot the watch in the bathroom. Because he was reluctant to return the favor that Kyoko-chan had bestowed upon him (by which I mean walking in on her shower, heh-heh)? Do...more

I'll admit it, this whole Ren is Cain and Kyoko is Setsu thing is confusing me. I mean, is the point to get them to spend more time together? But what good is it doing when Kyoko is trying to figure out what acting lesson she is supposed to be learning, and Ren is becoming convinced that Kyoko is indifferent to him? Add to that the strangeness behind Ren losing it, beating up those guys, and I am definitely lost.

This is the most freaking amazing and hilarious manga I've ever read!!
Ren is yummilicious and Kyoko is so adorable (yet I want to shake her hard sometimes for not seeing Ren's feelings toward her). I can't wait to see them together, it sure will be one explosive love story... *dreamy sigh*

You know what's the excellent thing about Skip Beat? Nakamura knows exactly how much romance to dole out to keep things engaging. Skip Beat has romantic comedy elements but it's primarily a story about Kyoko and her growth. Because the manga never forgets that when I read a very Ren/Kyoko-centric volume like this one I'm delighted because it doesn't disappear her character at all. It's just an opportunity to laugh at Ren too! (Ren's sulking over Kyoko being seemingly unaffected at seeing him in...more
What is not to like? Girl falls for guy, guy takes advantage of her feelings, he leaves for the big city, she tags along, but as soon as he starts to become famous, he throws her out. She vows revenge on him by beating him at his own game. It's like American Idol, only Japanese and not a game show, but I do have to wonder what it is about J-Pop? There are quick a few series about girls wanting to break into show biz by becoming an idol. I think I'm getting off track, though. Anyway, Kyoko has a...more

I love these characters (Kyouko's reaction to [spoiler] = HILARITY), but sometimes the meandering plots and huge supporting cast gets confusing. Like, all the drama with Ren's watch made me pause and go "Are we supposed to know about the significance of this watch? Or is this dramatic foreshadowing?" (Is it foreshadowing if it's about the past? Whatever.) But then Kyouko didn't know anything about it, so I guess this is the first we've seen that it's important at all.

As Kyoko works to get into character as Cain Heel's younger sister, Ren struggles with getting too much into his. While it's really an episode more focused on the Ren-Kyoko relationship, which I'm sure has the various shippers (a term I wish I didn't know) all atwitter, I more enjoy Kyoko's struggles with her own career. Still, a continually enjoyable ongoing guilty pleasure.

That weird little stint as brother and sister has ended and Ren and Kyouko have gone back to their day jobs (thankfully, even if it's only temporary). Dark Moon and Box R end up filming down the street from each other and Ren gets his first glimpse of Kyouko as Natsu (and he likely ^. ~). Then there's an Incident(!), things are revealed, and stuff gets heavy. Luckily, Ren has a special talent: eating fear. Both literally and figuratively.
