I don't even know what to say about this story.
The idea of it was what drew me in, but the writing didn't hold me. Le Sigh. Kinda sad, actually.
I was really hoping for some great romance story between these two people who have been best friends since they were kids, but all I got
was an annoying heroine who was back and forth too much over her
feelings for her best guy friend in the whole entire world.
I get that she was in an abusive relationship a couple years ago that really shook he...more

Something So Right is a very relate able novel to so many ( or at least it was to me). If you have ever been in a abusive relationship you know how hard it is to get out of it, and then when you do it's even harder to mover on because you are so scared to death of getting hurt you rationalize not wanting to hurt the other person. That is just what Lily is going through, she has been terribly hurt by the man she was going to marry that when she decides that she loves her best friend Sam she tells...more

Something So Right was a cute, enjoyable, short read. And that about sums it up. It's a fast-paced romance, with a decent amount of steaminess and sexual tension. It's one of those books that is fun to read on a long, cold evening, when you're sitting in your comfy chair, wrapped up in a blanket with a hot cup of chocolate in your hand. It makes a great experience. It's nice. Not exactly a mind-blowing piece of literature, but a decent short novel with a soli...more

Something So Right is the story of best friends whose relationship develops into a romance. I thought the hero, Sam Denning, was a wonderful character. He was loving and very protective of the heroine, Lily Carver. Lily was much harder to like. She carried a lot of baggage and had been seriously damaged by her last relationship, but even with that background, her continued resistance to a romantic relationship with Sam seemed too much. I didn't feel that she cared for him nearly as much as he di...more

Something So Right is a novel that is centered around one of my all time favorite tropes in the romance genre. The stories of best friends turning into lovers, the conflict, the sexual tension and their journey towards happily ever after is a theme I would never tire of. That is one reason why I requested for a galley of this title from Netgalley and though I didn’t like some aspects of the story that unfolded, I would still consider this to be an okay read.

Something So Right is one of those typical friends-to-lovers stories that I’m a big fan of. Sam and Lily have been best friends since forever. They have been through many ups and downs together and their friendship never wavered. After Lily’s failed marriage, Sam was everything she needed, her rock to hold on to. Still, both Sam and Lily are keeping secrets from each other. Sam has kept his attraction and love from Lily and Lily didn’t...more

cute story :D
It starts off with Sam telling us about how long he's loved Lily - they've been friends for 15 years. Sam has always lived by Lake Mississing. He was raised by his mom, not rich, always had hand me down clothes, and trying hard to make money for his little sister's to have something new for the new school year.
When he goes to the new cottage at the lake, he knows a rich family lives there. A little girl, maybe 12 or 13 answers the door and he hands her a flier asking for work arou...more

From page 2, you are confronted with what is assumably some great physical attraction between these two characters. Unfortunately, it was so fast that I didn’t even have time to learn anything about the characters except that they are sex crazed. Okay, they really aren’t but when that’s the first thing you are given, it’s what stays with you through the entire thing. I think perhaps a more constructed opening would be helpful here: it’s one thing to just jump into the middle of a scene in a susp...more

SOMETHING SO RIGHT, by Elyse Mady, is a romance and passion-packed story of letting go of the past and finding a place to belong. Lily Carver grew up wealthy but her best friend in the world Sam Denning was from the poorer part of town. Through the years they stayed in touch but the romance that planted its seed all those years ago is in full bloom after Lily divorces her abusive husband and Sam makes his intentions know. Lily doesn't want the perfect relationship Sam would offer so she proposit...more

Though plot of this story believable, I didn't like Lily very much as a character and could hardly keep up with her flip-floppy emotions. I liked Sam, but not enough. There were some very hot scenes, but some of the terminology was certainly off-putting to me.
Like moist.
Ew.
It was a quick read and Elyse Mady gave some great descriptions of the small resort community that provided the setting. Her characters had some depth, but the big build up in the end seemed too little too late for me. It was...more

I liked Elyse's last book, but there was something that was missing with this one. I couldn't completely follow the story and the progression was a little off. It felt pieced together and there was an evident lack of slow.
I finished the book, longing for the promise that these two had to tell me.
Lily was someone I wanted to relate to, but she was all over the place. She wanted sex, but she didn't want a relationship. That's normal enough. But she then wanted Sam. She kept going back and forth,...more

My Review:
Overall, I enjoyed this book. This is absolutely my favorite trope- friends to lovers, but I had some issues with understanding the characters and their reactions especially at the end of the book. Up until the last 15-20% of the book, I probably would have rated this one more along the lines of a "B".
Angst....there is a TON of it in this book. Lily was in a 2 year relationship 5 years ago that left her really emotionally scarred...more

Sam Denning and Lily Carver have been best friends since the summer they met in the small resort town of Muskoka. For Sam, though, it’s much more than a friendship. He’s been in love with Lily for a while and just can’t bring himself to make a move. The timing has never been right. Lily had been engaged until that fateful day she arrived home unexpectedly and found her fiancé in bed with someone else. When Sam found out what Lily was going through he went to he...more

Sam and Lily have been friends since they were 14 years old. Sam has been in love with his best from since they first met but has never told her or acted on it in any way. He’s watched from the sidelines as Lily became engaged to another man and then was there for her as she suffered through a traumatic breakup before she tied the knot. Although Sam did not the all the details of the break up, he was there for her unconditionally.

I picked up this book because the blurb sounded cute to me. I'm a sucker for those friends to lovers storylines and this is exactly that. Sam's been in love with Lily for as long as he could remember and Lily is oblivious to his feelings for her. She's been burned and has sworn off of men and Sam is giving her space. At least, he was until a short talk with his sister tells him that maybe it's time to let Lily in on his feelings.

This book made me want to move to lake country. The setting was great and I really enjoyed reading about Sam. My problem was with Lily, I just didn't like her. I appreciate the author trying to show how Lily's history and previous relationship affected her five years later and all that but she didn't really have very many redeeming qualities IMO. Also the internal struggles of both characters were a bit repetitive and exhausting.
I spent a lot of this book pretty frustrated with Lily. She really was a train wreck. Not only a train wreck, she was a BLIND train wreck.
As a reader I've always had a problem with poor little rich girls and as the survivor of an abusive marriage I have problems with victim heroines as well. And Lily, she was both of these in spades!

Something So Right takes one of my favorite tropes (friend/love from afar) and twists it on its ear. Usually girl in love with the boy, who happily lives his life with other women, it’s Sam who is in love with Lily, and scared to confess his feelings to such a commitment-shy woman. Mady does a great job establishing the backstory – their separate histories, and their friendship – and I think this laid a solid foundation to the present problems – his confession, and her fear of being hurt (and of...more

“But as the sun slipped even further, his eyes weren’t drawn to the horizon. He watched Lily as she stood on the dock, glorying in the golden ritual, her russet hair slipping free from its ponytail to frame her face with messy abandon.
This is the view I need to be happy, she’d said.
The irony was exquisite. Because that was what he whispered to himself every time he saw her too.
And there wasn’t a damn thing he could ever do about it.”

“He drew her finger from his mouth, and they simply stood motionless, her small hand in his larger one, their eyes fixed and wide. Then, with a sound that was half grunt, half plea, he hauled her against his ragingly erect body and kissed her.
Kissed her the way he’d kissed her so many times in his dreams.
Only this time it was real. And so much better.”
