Tobin's father was hanged for a crime he didn't commit -- the theft of some precious jewels -- largely based on the testimony of eight-year-old Lily, who saw the man riding away from the estate that fateful night. Fifteen years later, Tobin has returned as a wealthy and titled man with a grudge.

I liked the setup for this book. There was real tension between these two, because Tobin is understandably angry, and Lily is in real trouble as a result. Gradually, he starts to see how an 8-year-old mi...more

I tried to like the heroine, but every now and then she would say somethibg so vapid, or act so ignorantly that I could not help but think she, along with the other women in the book, was plain stupid at times and too naive to be considered cute.
Another issue I had was how the leading characters' romance either seemed forced or simply there. It felt like so much more could have been done with the characters past connection, or at least a more explosive confrontation between Lily and Charity.

While only a child, Lily Boudine testified that she saw Tobin Scott’s father, the wood carver, galloping away from the Ashwood estate. At about the same time, the Ashwood jewels also disappeared and the people of Hadley Green made the obvious connection. Tobin’s father was hanged as a thief and his family reviled. Death claimed the lives of some of his family and cast Tobin’s sister, Charity, into a compromising situation. Tobin struggled to survive, finally finding his way to riches on the high...more

Julia London's new book "The Revenge of Lord Eberlin" is totally awesome! I loved the storyline of an angry, vengeful man who will stop at nothing to destroy the lives of anyone who gets in his way. Tobin Scot is a man on a mission who sets out to get his due, even if his target is the lovely and desirable Lily Boudine. Tobin feels that revenge is the only way to go. You will feel Tobin's pain in loosing his family and the panic that overwhelms him at times. You will see a woman who feels his pa...more

OK, I looked forward to this one coming out so I could read the conclusion to what I assumed would be a trilogy, only to discover that there is yet another story in the series. Fortunately, that one's also out already (reading now).

Anyway, so this one begins where the last one left off, with a dark and vengeful Tobin Scott (a/k/a Lord Eberlin--long story) methodically setting out to ruin Lily Boudine, who at eight years old, testified that she saw his father ride away from her uncle's estate ju...more

Tobin, Lord Eberlin, has planned this revenge for a long time, he sees Lily as responsible for his fathers hanging fifteen years ago. The ordeal with the stealing of the Ashwood jewels, the trial and hanging of her friends father is something that still haunts Lily. Not that she thinks she testified wrongly, but that her aunt acted strange and it all ended with her move to Ireland, being orphaened for the second time in her eight yeared life.
There´s a lot of feelings between them at the same ti...more

I enjoyed this face-paced and unexpected story involving one-upmanship and seduction. Tension builds between Lily who recently inherited a title and a crumbling estate and Tobin who seeks revenge against her for the death of his father. He finds no shortage of creative ways to make her suffer and Lily rises to the challenge. London ratchets up the intensity at every turn with higher and higher stakes. There is plenty of inner turmoil as Lily and Tobin each struggle to find what they most want. T...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The thing that appealed to me was the evolution of the relationship. Tobin's feeling towards Lily were multi-layered. Once he got past some of the layers, he worried about his past effecting Lily, whereas Lily was already a piranha due to her cousin's actions in the first book. Lily's layers grew with the story due to her discovering the truth about her childhood memories. With each of these layers, we eventually saw the two of them form into a couple united again...more

Lord Eberlin's revenge unfolds wonderfully so that by the end you're left wanting more and more and more. I thought Tobin's story was touching and you wanted to give him a big old hug at the end.

Once again, Julia London leaves you desperate to find out what crazy thing will happen next in Hadley Green. How does she do that? She's not a NYT bestselling author for nothing.

The repercussions of Keira's actions in The Year of Living Scandalously have more or less been resolved and now Lily's defectio...more

Another great read from Julia London, the second book in the Secrets of Hadley Green series does not disappoint. "The Revenge of Lord Eberlin" picks up shortly after Miss Lily Boudine has returned from Europe to settle into her newly inherited title of Lady Ashwood. She finds a scandal in the making as her cousin, Kiera, has pretended to be Lily in an effort to try saving the broken estate. The estate is sinking fast, with tenants leaving for greener pastures and the money running out quickly. "...more

Having read the previous two books in this series, I was excited to return back to Hadley Glenn and the mystery of the missing necklace.

We pick shortly where the last book leaves off and our introduction to Lily Boudine. I was a bit disappointed in Lily. She's a selfish creature whom steps into the mess she jointly made with her cousin, but unable to understand how her inability to take control over her own life led to this problem. She is a reactionary character who needs someone else to do som...more

Julia is bringing out the continuation of a story previously started in the series, Secrets of Hadley Green. Lily has inherited the Estate of Ashwood and finds it more than she can handle, especially since the neighbouring estate, Tiber Park, owned by none other than Count Eberlin, is doing anything and everything to make it impossible for her to save Ashwood. Tough choices are ahead of her. Which is hampered by the devilish rogue who is out to seek revenge on Lily for a past she had no control...more

I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if the author didn’t spend the first third of it rehashing the first book in the series. I always enjoy when the author gives me reminders of who characters are from previous books but I wasn’t expecting a full synopsis. By the time the story took off I thought it was a bit boring. I didn’t really see any romantic connection between Lily and Tobin. I felt he just wanted her for her looks and she had no choice but to give in to his whims to save her estat...more

I should have liked this book more than I did. Julia was at her usual witty best, but the characters and the story didn't really do anything for me. I felt that Tobin was unlikeable, and when you wish she would instead fall for the Duke's brother instead of the hero, you know there's a problem. It was all a bit ho hum. Then there's the whole storyline of blaming an 8 year old for something she had little or no control over. Oh well. The next book in the series sounds good!

This has been the most intriguing series. There is a mystery to be solved and you, as the reader, get to follow along. So far, at the end of each installment (read 'book') you are left hanging. I don't know where I got the impression that is was a quartet of books? However, I am now waiting for my next installment: "The Seduction of Lady X". This could go on ad infinitum or ad nauseum...we shall see. I think you might like it...try it to see! Maybe you can solve the mystery before the H/H does!

We met the heroine of this book Lily, in the last adventure with her cousin Kierra. Lily is trying to build her inheritance, Ashwood, up to its old glory but her nemisis, Tobin Scott, the newly minted Lord Eberlin, has other ideas namely revenge. When Lily was 8 she was asked to testify at Tobin's fathers trial for theft. Lily's testimony placed Tobin's father at the scene of the crime and that was enough to condemn him to the hangman. Tobin now wants to destroy Ashwood and everything that Lily...more

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the meanness of Lord Eberlin and the fact that he had what's known as panic attacks today. I liked that Lily was no shrinking violet and decided to fight back.

I listened to the audio version narrated by Justine Eyre and you can count on her to deliver a great narration.

I recommend this book and know that I'll be listening to this book again in the near future.

Julia London is fab with Historical Romance books!!!! The hero wants revenge on the herione......Tobin Scott returns to Hadley Green, where Lily Boudine's childhood testimony helped to send his father to the gallows for stealing the Ashwood jewels. Tobin is now a very rich man with a title and wants only revenge on Lily, he intends to ruin her........but will he? Or will he fall in love with her? A must read!

I liked this book a lot. I didn't realize it was a second in a series, and I don't think I'll read the first one since you find out everything in this one making it unnecessary to go back.

I thought Lord Eberlin was a classic sad and tragic hero, and I was interested in him. Some of the events were an obvious ploy to move the plot here or there, but I really enjoyed it.

So far so good, I'm at about 20%. My only nit and it's kinda a biggie is the hero, he' supposed to be super cold and wicked, but he just seems like a shrewd businessman who has spells (I think these are panic attacks). Also, the heroine seems to think her past is just as tragic as his and there is just no comparison.

Back to reading . . .

The initial conflict between Tobin and Lily carries vestiges of their childhood emotions, unyielding and vehement. As time passes, desire grows between them, followed by forgiveness, and finally love.

I felt the ending was rushed and abrupt, leaving the resolution a bit trite.

Back blurb was misleading. H was wishi washi, and the h plain dumb. She was a witness who caused his father to hang. He wants revenge, but she was telling the truth. His plans fall thru as he fights his love for her. She does a lot of hand wringing.
Karen
I've really been enjoying the series, and I adored the love-hate war between Lily and Tobin. Tobin's gradual thaw matched with Lily's growing understanding of what was *actually* going on that fateful year when she was 8 was exceedingly well done.
Marsha
I really enjoyed the story of Lily and Tobin even more than the first of the series (I found Keira too much like Scarlett, selfish, and those who know me know that is so not a good thing). Lively writing and good characters - a great read.

I think my expectations were a bit too high with this book. I loved "Year of Living Scandalously" and I was expecting a lot of tension; while the tension was there it wasn't up to my unbelievable expectations.

This, the second in the Hadley Green trilogy was a good read, albeit a bit disappointing.

After reading the teaser at the end of book #1, I expected danger and a lot more intrigue than was apparent. Still a good read.

One of my all time favorite covers. The plot however is one of my least favorites. Revenge stories are usually depressing but this one against an eight year old is particularly drawn out too long.
