For my second book in the spring term I read: Dragon Bones and Dinosaur Eggs by Ann Bausum. The book is about an explorer who want's to find dragon bones and dinosaur eggs. The name of the archeologis is Roy. Roy went all around the world to find dragon bones and dinosaur eggs. Sense this book is a non-fiction book the author wrote this because he was interesting on write a story basic on archeologis so that's why he wrote it. I did like the way that Roy was because he was interesting on the bon...more
Did you know there was a real-life adventurer-archeologist who inspired the Indiana Jones stories? His name was Roy Chapman Andrews. This awesome photobiography from National Geographic uses tons of old photographs to tell his life story. He led an expedition (supplied by camel train) into the vast Gobi desert of Mongolia in the 1920s in search of what the local people called “dragon bones”—dinosaur artifacts. He and his team faced blinding sandstorms, hostile soldiers and bandits, and many othe...more
I think it must have been a wonderful life, when there was so much left to explore and discover. Roy Chapman Andrews led successful expeditions at a time when there was much infighting among scientists and explorers to be the "first". His teams seemed to get along and work happily despite physical discomfort and sometimes danger. To me, that is the sign of a good leader. It is amazing to me what explorers put up with to learn about the world.
Roy Chapman Andrews, of the breed that lead to Indiana Jones, was the man who organized the Mongolian expeditions that produced the protoceratops, and the first full nests of dinosaur eggs. I have read, and had in my collections at school, two of his books for children, all unknowing of exactly who he was.
The book follows Andrews life, but concentrates on the Mongolian expeditions. An enjoyable read for children fifth grade through 8th, although the size and format of the book might put them off...more

Although this is a book written for young audiences, I found both the photos and the biographical information about Roy Chapman Andrews to be first rate. Many people think Andrews is the model for Indiana Jones, and based on his life and accomplishments it may be true.
