Ok...I'll say it's a 3.5...but then, considering Till is filling the shoes of one of the most read authors, to come up with what she did, makes her deserve a 4...

I can't say it's a page turner...there are few places, where you just want to leave it...n then moments when you can't stop yourself from stealing 2 more minutes n go through yet another page...

Truely an Angel of the Dark

The last Sydney Sheldon I read was almost 6 years ago. Seemed that I had exhausted all he had to offer, and with no new titles coming up, I moved on to other authors.

Tilly has done justice to Sheldon's story, to a certain extent. Disappointed! This is how i sum up this book. In my opinion, i have more questions than answers after i read this book. The storyline is very predictable and i could figure out the whole story including the MPD stuff halfway through the book.

A lots of stuff goes unanswered:

1) What happened to the Victorian Era Paintings that were stolen from the Jakes place? The detective follows it up to a certain extent and then lets go and we never know what happened.

2) Why were they funneling the money into...more

I was never a huge Sheldon fan even in high school but considering he's dead I thought I'd pick this book up and see if my opinion has changed. After billing I looked at the book closely and realised it was completed by a bagshawe. I was actually not biased and I really wish I'd been.

The book was only worth a few dollars, but the title attracted my attention and it had been published by Harper Collins, so I thought it couldn’t be that bad. The book was only worth a few dollars, but the title attracted my attention and it had been published by Harper Collins, so I thought it couldn’t be that bad. The title of the book was created and written in a way to deceive people and make them believe they were buying a book from Sidney Sheldon, the well-known writer. If you went below the title however (Sidney Sheldon’s Angel of the Dark) you could see another name, Tilly Bagshawe, the real author. Everything about that method is cheap. Never mind, I started reading the book, supposed to be based on notes left by Sheldon when he died in 2007. The plot is good and the story starts well enough. In a nutshell, this is about a series of weird murders in which en elderly man is savagely murdered while his young wife is raped and left alive by his side. The murders take place around the world, and a number of individuals, one from Interpol and a useless comedy writer, set on a search for the killer. As I said, the plot is okay, until the end that is. The last part of the book is boring – a trial – and the ending so preposterous it made me cringe. You very quickly can’t stand the main character, the comedy writer. As for the writing, it’s all right most of the time, but sometimes you come across repetitions and gems such as (p. 222) “He was as Indian as the Taj Mahal.” Such trite similes should simply be banned from literature.

The worst, for me, started with Chapter Thirteen, which takes place in Hong Kong. This is a fine example of how easily you can lose credibility with your readers, something all writers learn very early on in their careers. If what you write is false or simply wrong, your credibility is gone – and it doesn’t matter if it’s fiction or not. With me having lived in Hong Kong, Bagshawe didn’t stand a chance, but had she done basic research, she would have been fine. The underground system in Hong Kong (probably the best in the world in terms of efficiency, network and cleanliness) is called the MTR (Mass Transit Railway)… and it becomes the DLR in the novel. But the worst is to come. I will only give two examples. The first one reads, “Lan Kwai Fong, the nightlife quarter and red-light district, glittered and screamed and stank, its narrow streets packed with some of the weirdest specimens humankind has to offer: juggling midgets, armless dancers, blind transvestite hookers and the ubiquitous, wide-eyed U.S. servicemen on shore leave, drinking it all.” Anyone who knows Hong Kong would scream with laughter when reading these words. Lan Kwai Fong is vile, I agree, but it is a modern street with bars like those you can find anywhere in the world – like Los Angeles or London where the author lives – and, on Saturday nights when it becomes rowdy and full of drunk people, mostly expats. None of the weird specimens described here. It is as normal as it gets. One paragraph further down and you find, “In New York and London, shopping streets were crowded. Here they were overrun, infested, alive with humanity like a rotting corpse riddled with maggots.” I had to read this several times to make sure I had read well. Is Bagshawe really comparing Hong Kongese with maggots? This has to be the most racist, wrong and offensive thing I have read in a long time. She should be banned from writing and Harper Collins should change editors. Honestly!(less)

Sidney Sheldon's Angel of the Dark is a twisted, mysterious and altogether contagious novel. I was hooked the moment I picked it up even as I waded through the lies, violence, and graphic murders. The plot line was excellently developed. The author left the reader as completely in the dark as the main characters as the book progressed. There were several unexpected twists in the novel. The ending was completely surprising and made me sit back and simply say "WOW!".

The characters, especially the Angel of the Dark, were extremely well developed. The Angel was such a mystery. Her characteristics were surprising and her gall unbelievable. Matt Daley was love besotted to the nth degree, and I could only pity him. I was glad that Danny, the only light of reason in the entire book, was part of the novel, for he was the only normal person in the novel at times.

Overall, I enjoyed the novel, but it did leave me with an weird taste in my mouth and the pure evil and darkness that resides and is acted upon in some people. I would only recommend it to readers who enjoy a good mystery yet are not put off by violence and graphic murders. (less)

Since becoming a well-known attorney to the rich and famous, he believed that his life was taking a turn for the better until he found Angela Jakes.

Seeing her beauty behind all the bruises and cuts to her face, Detective McGuire will stop at nothing to see that justice prevails and the brutal killer is caught. Only now, the only obstacle in his way is her attorney Lyle Renalto. He duty is to assure that she remains protected and away from the badgering questions of the police.

When he fears for her safety, he has her put on a plane and sent out of the country. Only now it seems that Angela has vanished when Detective McGuire needs to question her further.

After ten years, and no suspects in the case, Detective McGuire still haunted by his failed efforts leaves the United States for Lyon, France and now finds the solitude of working for Interpol helps to quell the demons from his past. Only now it seems that the killer is back on the lose when married older men are being murdered at random and left tied to their brutally beaten wives.

I received Sidney Sheldon's Angel of the Dark by Sidney Sheldon and Tilly Bagshawe compliments of William Morrow, a division of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. This being my first Sidney Sheldon murder/suspense mystery, I was immediately involved as the reader. Trying to pick up on subtle clues I was along for the ride with Detective McGuire to try and figure this one out. I kinda had an idea but wasn't sure if I was correct or not until the very end. This book does contain some graphic violent crime scenes and some sexuality among the characters so the reader should be warned, it may not be for everyone. Those who are looking for a compelling, edge of your seat ride, will definitely want this one. I rate this one a 4 out of 5 stars. (less)

I visited a book fair recently. It was awesome and I found many good reads there (Ha!).This was one of them.

I have read about four Sidney Sheldon's books and I found them interesting. This one, despite its title, is not fully written by Sidney Sheldon. Its author is Tilly Bagshawe. She built this story on some unpublished work of Sidney Sheldon. But this story is not disappointing at all.

This story had as many plot twists as we've grown accustomed to in stories like this, and the ending is sure to leave readers reeling. The beginning of this novel has several time, location and character changes over a short number of pages. While this is vital to the telling of the story, I felt that the jumps could be a bit confusing. Fortunately, I stayed with it, and the last two-thirds of the novel were clearly written and very entertaining. This novel is a solid addition to the mystery genre and a nice continuation of the Sidney Sheldon legacy.(less)

I kind of waffled between 3 or 4 stars (wish we could give half stars!), so rounded up.

I was pleasantly surprised, I must say. This was the first Tilly Bagshawe read for me but I was a big Sheldon fan years ago; I guess perhaps my expectations were a little low. Based on my memory, the story definitely rings of Sheldon-style writing...I enjoy the coombinations of cultures & the english writing immensely.

The plot was way over the top with the same woman seducing and marrying five very rich men. This could never happen. I know it's entertainment, but the story was too unbelievable. Sidney Sheldon is back! - even though I'm aware he's dead. (Yes, I know.) This 3rd post-mortem book written by Tilly Bagshawe features all that I loved about early Sidney Sheldon. A driven cop, exotic foriegn locales, passion, murder, a trial, a mystery, sex, romance, betrayal and insanity. Pure escapist fantasy; I loved it. Reminded me of early Sidney Sheldon novels, the kind that are made into Lifetime movies starring Jaclyn Smith.

Even though, this novel has references to Sidney's "Are you afraid of the dark", the plot goes global and happens in varied time span.

In my opinion, the characters are not convincing at many points. Angela Jakes stays high out of the rest. The Court trial at the end seems to be dragging to some extent.

I have a problem with an author trying to write like a deceased author, and then marketing the book under both their names. That seems cheap to me. I didn't realize that was what had happened here til after I read the book. I figured that perhaps old manuscripts had been found posthumously and were then polished and printed, but that is not the case. So, I am irritated by this book.

It serves its purpose. Keeps you hooked and gives the required twists - enjoyably and predictably so xP The 'american idiot' role works well with matt or what's his name?No place for logic but still fun. but WHO the HELL is CARLOS HERNANDEZ? I really forgot and so don't get the ending x/ so much for books being memorable.
If they had cut the last 30 pages after the verdict it would've got a 5 :P
p.s - If you know who who carlos Hernandez is , please tell me. Im not reading the book again for this...more

Finished it in less than a day. 'Nuff said. I really dont know how to write a review without managing to give away the plot in this story. The end was a little confusing and disappointing but till there, it was satisfactory. Not the usual Sheldon style coz if it were, all my guesses would've been wrong but somehow i managed to guess a big chunk of the story a little after the middle.
All in all, I enjoyed the book.
If you're not a Sheldon reader however, dont start with this book. Id recommend "t...more

A little different break down than I normally do. I am a total "ender" aka the end of the book can make me look at the whole book differently. I think that should be noted and I want to be fair.

Although I'm not a good reviewer, I think it would be disgraceful from my side to not to put forward my views on something as good as this piece of art. I have read sidney sheldon like after quite a long time. And I realised what have I missed on for all this years.

Dear 'authors' (aka Tilly Bagshawe):

1. Sidney Sheldon is dead. It's a loss but stop trying to claim to be his re-incarnation.

2. If you're claiming to set part of the story in a fucking fabulous city, GET IT RIGHT!! Hong Kong does not have a DLR, it's the MTR. It runs more on time than most other public transport in most major cities. DO NOT CUT DOWN HK PUBLIC TRANSPORT! Your story is not set in Brisbane.

3. STOP WRITING 'Sidney Sheldon' BOOKS YOU FUCKING HACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
