Not awful, but not great. Some scenes were pretty good & others were hilariously bad. The core plot is decent enough, but it push it to another level.

I'm not sure which annoyed me more: the narrator's wildly switching opinions from one page to another (with very little evidence either way), the goofy nature of the curse (discussions of "the tumor" were LOLzy), the repetition & re-hashing of established plot points (yeah, I got it the first three times), or the pl

Curse this House by Barbara Wood

Leyla Pemberton returns home to Pemberton Hurst after the death of her mother and a twenty year absence. She remembers little of the time she spent her first five years of life there, save for the fact that she was severely traumatised by witnessing the death of her father and brother and has no memory of the incident.

Her relatives are strangers to her, a grandmother who rules the house with an iron fist from her room, nervous Aunt Anna, sickly uncle Henry, eccent

This was like reading an Agatha Christie's novel only much better than that.
A big and misterious house keeps inside her walls a story of crazyness and murder. Is it everything true or just invention?
For Leyla, coming back to her father's family house is a date with her own past, a past hidden in her memories. She just can't remember what happened when she live there, what happened before she left the house. But her family doesn't look so happy to have her back. Why?
Murders and crazyness are con

...more

an older book by Ms. Wood, a gothic suspense. When her mother dies, a young women revists the home where she spent the first 5 years of her life and doesn't remember how or why her father and brother died there. My first by this author but I understand this is not one of her best by some of her avid fans. Kept my interest and had a surprise ending, but left me feeling unsatisfied. Our book club will be reading Night Trains by Ms. Wood next.

Considering this isn't really my kind of book, I liked it very much. The style of writing and the language of the time made it a bit hard to read at times, but was enjoyable overall. My prediction of the climax was correct, which is always nice.
This was a great book. The setting of this book is England. A girl's mother dies. So she goes to her family home, Pembleton Hurst and finds all sorts of amazing things- murders, love ... secrets.
this book makes me angry for a while, and than i have forget this wehen i fished the book.

This was a bit slow in the beginning but definitely has some twists and turns.
Ambiente gótico, un secreto familiar, muy entretenida.
