The book has succesfully addressed many complex notions circulating around the idea of Discourse in a very straightforward and easy way. Its worth to mention as well that the major orientation of the book dealt with Foucauldian conception of discourse rather than other type of discourse,so yeah, dont expect everything to be mentioned in the book. But still, recommended to be read!

first two chapters would be useful to introduce to undergrads trying to grapple with foucault, as mills' definitions of "discourse(s)" are lucid and succinct. the rest of the chapters are woefully out of date, though, and weirdly dismissive of marxist theory. am not too impressed with her examples/definitions in the later chapters, either.

An excellent introduction to the slippery topic that is discourse. Grounded in Foucault's use of the term, this book would be an especially useful book to assign in courses on Foucault's work, as it is the kind of straight forward, focused discussion of discourse that Foucault never really provides.

Sara Mills discusses the theory of Foucauldian Discourse, and how it affects a number of theories posterior to it namely feminist theories, colonialist theories and linguist theories (discourse analyst, critical linguist etc.)

Sara Mills had done a great job de-mystifying Foucault. He is terribly un-understandable; I tried reading him only to surrender after two chapters. Leulz.

Mills elucidates the often Foucauldian and therefore elusive defintiions of both Foucault, discourse, and modern and structuralists understandings of her subjects. Clear, concise, and accessible a wonderful guide.

Solid intro to Discourse. Although written by a literary theorist, the book is driven by the work of Foucault and is useful for social scientists as well.

Good, coherent introduction to Foucault's discourse theory, and how it differs from discourse analysis. Short, readable and useful.
