Can you count all the animals that live in the woods?

"At the edge of the woods, the grass grows tall,
the daisies dance and the blackbirds call.
One chipmunk lives in the old stone wall
at the edge of the deep, dark woods."

The chipmunk is not alone. Two spotted fawns play in the grass. Three furry foxes drink from the pond. And who is that coming out of the cave? Count up to

I've been looking for books to help teach my 2 year old his numbers, and thought this would be a big hit because he loves animals. But for some reason it didn't really engage him. My best guess is that the style of illustration was a little too abstract for him, because normally when we read other books with a deer or a fox he goes absolutely gaga.

So while it didn't really work for us, it was a nicely paced animal counting book that I think would definitely be enjoyed by some children. Just not

This book goes through the numbers 1-10 and uses animals that a student would see in the woods. It then repeats but goes backwards. This book would be really helpful to use in a kindergarten classroom when teaching them how to count.

With vibrant illustrations and rhyming text this is a great read-aloud. The chance to count the animals makes this a very engaging read aloud. My story time audience loved this one.

Pretty book. Good number recognition. Repeat read.

A Counting book that uses realistic animals and bugs that students can count themselves. They can use the book to count the animals on each side. Perfect for teaching numbers, even habitat.

Great illustrations! This book has vibrant colors, is a fantastic counting book and would serve as a great read-aloud. It has a repeating verse that ties everything together.

I loved everything about this book, from the lyrical poetic lines, to the vibrant and dimensional artwork. It was just as fun to read out loud as it was to study the illustrations.
