In Nancy Martin’s long awaited eighth book in the Blackbird Sisters Mysteries, it looks like things are looking up for the sisters. Forced to live in genteel poverty since their parents absconded with their trust funds, news that they inherited their Aunt Madeleine’s estate seems the answer to their prayers. Life is complicated for the sisters, Nora’s lover, Michael, is in jail, Emma is pregnant with no chance of marrying the father and Libby is ….well, Libby.

A zany story that will keep you guessing! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:
Amateur sleuth Nora and her two sisters, Libby and Emma, have been struggling to make ends meet since their parents absconded with their trust funds and left the country. With the estate, Blackbird Farm, in bad shape, Nora found work as a society columnist, having traveled in mainline society her whole life. The one bright light in Nora’s life is her boyfriend Mick, who also happens to be the son of a mob leader...more

This book in the Blackbird sisters is an attention grabber. It helps if you have read the previous books in the series but it can be read on its' own. The sister's each have their own problems but the underlying thread is that they are flat broke because their parents took off to have fun without paying any of the bills and taxes on the property, land and house. My favorite sister is Eleanor "Nora" Blackbird. Each of the three sisters have 'problems' and each girl is unique and quirky. Nora wear...more
This was my first Nancy Martin mystery, and I am hooked. Unfortunately, I am now reading about the Blackbird sisters in reverse order. I apparently like confusing myself. Anyway, this is an above average read for the female reader of mysteries. The sisters have realistic relationship--sometimes close and sometimes irritating each other. The mystery solver has an occupation--society party coverage for a struggling newspaper--that puts her believeably in the story. She is not just a snoop--a trait...more
Nancy is a master story teller. She brings us into a world i can only imagine of high society and priviledge. She draws us in with multiple stories that tie together perfectly! I just finished this book and i want more. Mick much be a writer's dream. He is such a wonderful part of Nora's life. It makes me wonder how similiar high society and the crime workd are! Being partof a big family, i just love how Nancy writes about family life.....be it an offbeat, extraordinary family. Great aunt Madele...more
The Blackbird sisters are as outrageous and funny as ever in the midst of falling down mansions and sinister gangsters and Philadelphia high society. In this one, Michael and Nora deal with more trauma than usual--he's just out of jail, and re-entry is not as idyllic as either of them had hoped. But with the death of Nora's aunt a mystery begins that unravels...and unravels...and keeps you puzzled. There are such obvious suspects you'll be sure you know who did it And you'll be bowled over by th...more
The Blackbird sisters are at it again. Nora and her sisters inheritate an old mansion from their Aunt who has died in an Indonesian volcanic accident. When Nora and her sisters go to lookover what they have inherited they find the mansion is missing many treasures and a dead body in the elevator. The body has been dead for a very long time. Who is it? Where has the treasures gone? To top it off Mick Abruzzo, Nora's husband or boy friend, has been released from prison and is now on home arrest. H...more
I had missed the Blackbird sisters (not liking the Roxy Abruzzo series) so I was happy to read this 8th in the series. The more meaty mystery was a pleasant surprise, as well as the character development. But still funny enough for those Evanovich fans. It was going at such a nice pace, that I was surprised to see that I was only 20 pages till the end. There was no way it could all be tied up, and I felt it was a more abrupt ending than it deserved. I felt a little gypped, especially since two o...more
The Blackbird Sisters are back in this novel by Nancy Martin. This story starring Nora and her sisters picks up shortly after the end of the last one. Emma is still pregnant, Libby is still sex-crazed, and Mick is under house arrest.
The quirkiness of this series is actually magnified in this story. The sisters get word that great-aunt Madeleine died in a volcano eruption. But did she? When they go to the deserted old mansion, the sisters find that their aunt's valuable art and jewels have been...more

Nora Blackbird and her sisters learn their great-aunt Madeline died in a volcano explosion in Indonesia. Nora will inherit Quintain, the family estate now that Madcap Maddie is gone. However, when Nora, Libby and Emma arrive with the family lawyers, they discover a body in an elevator. Maddie didn't die in Indonesia; she's been dead for 20 years and the big house has been stripped of all its valuables, including Fabrege eggs and important paintings. Life for the Blackbirds is never easy. Fortuna...more
While you can certainly read this book as a stand alone, I do think it is better if you have read the rest of the series. If you are a fan of fashion, high society, and/or coaching (horses) then there is something for you in this light mystery. The characters are always zany but it is nice to see that they are clearly growing. The pig and the Shetland ponies were interesting additions to the mix.

I enjoyed the previous seven and now the 8th mystery in this series. Nora Blackbird is a great character, her sisters are loony and I really like the Michael/Mick character. How can you not like a mob guy trying to break his family connections because he's actually a good guy? Nora calls him Michael because Michael (rather than Mick) is who he aspires to be.
Nice little twist at the end-I certainly hadn't guess who done it. And getting to know the aunt, even if it was posthumously was a worthwhi...more

When they receive news of their Aunt Madeleine's death in Indonesia, the Blackbird sisters--Nora, Libby and Emma--also learn that they've inherited her estate. But the long-empty mansion is not only falling into decrepitude, all the art treasures have been looted. Oh, and there's a dead body in the elevator. Fortunately, Nora's significant other Michael is out of prison and on house arrest in Nora's own decrepit farm, and he and his underworld connections help her puzzle out what's going on in B...more
A four-year wait is too long!! That said, this is the eighth in the Blackbird Sisters mystery series. This one finds the girls set to inherit the estate of their recently deceased aunt. Into the picture comes their aunt's step son, who also happens to be a cousin on another side of the family. All are surprised to find the estate in disrepair and void of almost all its treasures. On top of that, there's a body found in the elevator---someone trapped inside years ago and apparently starved to dea...more

No Way To Kill a Lady is the eighth book in the Blackbird Mystery Series. This series went on hiatus for a few years. Although the seventh book ended on an almost perfect note, I was more than happy to pick this book up. Nora, the lead sister, has her life in upheaval. Both of her sisters live fairly messed up lives. Her husband is in jail (mob connections) and she has a knack for finding dead bodies. This is no different. Once again Nora finds a dead body. I love this series and I was thrilled to see No Way to Kill a Lady published - I had thought Ms. Martin had killed the series with the last book. The crazy sisters are back and as nuttier as ever, with Nora starting to embrace the dark side just a teeny tiny bit - only for a greater good, of course. The mystery surrounding the death of their great-aunt had an interesting cast of suspects, although not nearly so interesting as the life Aunt Madeline lived. A very short list of suspects meant that...more
A long awaited book in the Blackbird sisters series! This story picks up where the previous book left off, with Nora still working the society beat for her newspaper, Emma pregnant, and Libby with another new scheme to raise money. The sisters inherit an estate from an eccentric aunt, and from there the problems begin: missing treasures, a mysterious body or two, gangsters, ponies...there's something for everyone. This is a series that Evanovich fans might enjoy.

If there were more than 5 stars this book would earn them!!! It was crazy fun. The readers get to meet another member of the Blackbird family....well sort of. Who doesn't love a bad guy going good? I have to say, this book made me LOL a few times. I think Ralphie was the funniest though...who's Ralphie you ask....Guess you'll have to read the book to find out. There were times when my heart broke for Mick, but he's tough. It's a great book and I can't wait for another one to come out!!!!!
Looks as if I'm lucky I came to this series late as there was a 4 year wait between this book and the previous one! ACK! Loved this one! The sisters were all in their madcap glory, there is a jaunty pig named Ralphie, and general mayhem ensues. I hope that there will be more books in the series, I really hope that if there ARE more books in the series, we won't have to wait 4 years for the next installment.
Oh, how I've missed the Blackbird Sisters! What a delightful combination of outrageous characters and outlandish circumstances! Sometimes it all gets a bit out of hand and I want some reasonable action, but what's the fun of that? Besides, things are settled in the end...or almost. I love these books and thought the series had come to an end. I was very glad to welcome Nora, Libby and Emma back into my house.
After waiting 4 years, book #8 of the Blackbird Sisters finally came out. Nancy Martin did a great job helping her readers remember where we left off. The sisters are quirky, but so loveable. Nora has great clothes but sometimes too perfect manners. There's nothing like a high society scandal with a little bit of mobster thrown in. Love Nora and Mick together! Let's hope I don't have to wait another 4 years for book #9. :-)

As always, Nancy Martin has you laughing through the entire book with the escapades of the three sisters. It is a continuation of her previous books but if the reader just picks this one up without reading the rest, she does fill you in briefly. If you are looking for a light read with plenty of good laughs, pick up any of her books.
I'm not much on humorous mysteries. Only Evanovich and Nancy Martin have really passed my test. It's been quite awhile since the last Blackbird Sisters but definitely worth the wait. When it comes to comparing the characters in both series, it's close to Jersey Shore vs. Dirty Sexy Money. The Money and Martin win.
I was surprised that Nancy Martin added to the series. Kind of thought she was finished with the story. I have loved all of her books in this series and this was no exception. Ms. Martin is a very gifted author and tells a great story. Now she needs to continue with another book about the wonderful Blackbird sisters.
I'm giving it a 3 because I want the wait time to shorten between books in this series. I think a 2.5 is more accurate. This book had a sense of melancholy about it that was unusual but appropriate. Characters are having to face consequences of prior deeds. The next book should have a lot of decisions made by characters or made for them thru inaction. The mystery was minimal & easily resolved, it was almost an afterthought. The writing is wonderful, a couple sentences here & there seemed...more
This was a so-so very light mystery with a ex-debutant and her 2 crazy sisters (the large one is a nympho, the pregnant one is aggressive). They inherit a mansion from their aunt only to discover she had been shut in to die in the mansion's elevator decades ago and not jet setting around the world as they thought.
The Blackbird sisters inherit their aunt's estate but find more than they bargained for...a dead body inside the mansion! Nora solves the crime while fending off both a lecherous attorney and cousin, adjusting to Mick's family situation, tolerating her sister Libby's new found fame, and trying to convince her sister Emma to let her and Mick adopt her baby. I enjoyed this book although the murder...what a way to go! Ralphie is a new favorite character of mine; I hope to see more of him. I'm rathe...more
