Believe It or Not is a fun, cute contemporary romance story. Violet is a woman at odds with herself, she grew up with an eccentric "psychic" mother. Her mother, named Moonbeam, is in the hospital and Violet takes over her mother's business while she recovers. As an accountant, and not believing in psychic ability, Violet has mixed feelings about pretending to be a psychic, but she feels she has no choice. The business next to the psychic shop is a bar that features male strippers on the weekends...more
I'd intended to buy this late last night but wait to read it. Instead I read the excerpt and stayed up until 3 a.m. reading it. This book was that elusive and wonderful unputdownable experience.
Tawna's writing style reminds me of one of my other favorite and unputdownable authors: Jennifer Crusie. They both have the same hilarious moments which actually make me bark out a laugh which is quickly followed by embarrassed shame and the hope that no one heard me. What a fun book. Violet came home to Portland to help her mom who has ended up in the hospital. Mom is a somewhat flaky psychic who provided Violet with an unconventional childhood. Violet countered that upbringing by becoming a straitlaced accountant and moving across the country. All she wants is a normal life with a normal husband, etc. Now, mom has more or less blackmailed Violet into running the psychic business until mom can get back to it. Violet doesn't even believe in psychics, so she h...more
When Violet's mom winds up in the hospital, she returns home to take over her psychic shop. Little did she know that the owner of the strip club/bar next door would be so hot! Unfortunately, he REALLY does not fit the normal, boring (cough cough) image she's looking for. Violet does not fit his bimbo airhead standards. Can they get over their differences for true love?

3 ½ stars. It’s better than ok. It’s a cute story for contemporary romance with a few chuckles.
STORY BRIEF:
Violet is an accountant. Her mother Moonbeam does psychic readings in a small shop next to a bar. Drew owns the bar. The bar has male stripper/dancers on weekends which is popular with women. Moonbeam falls and breaks some bones. She won’t consider surgery and modern medicine unless Violet agrees to run her psychic business while Moonbeam is out. Moonbeam claims Violet is psychic and wants...more

Here's something to think about: How come you never see a headline like 'Psychic Wins Lottery'? - Jay Leno
Both Violet McGinn and Drew Watson would agree with Jay Leno. They come into contact, and share this opinion, when Violet's mother, Moombeam, has an accident. Moonbeam offers psychic services in a studio next to Drew's bar. But not just a bar, but a hot spot featuring exotic male dancers on the weekend.

Violet has come home to help her mother, Moonbeam, after she falls down the steps of her new age shop and needs surgery. Her mother is also a noted psychic and Violet has grown up to be as opposite of a psychic as she can-an accountant. When it becomes obvious that Moonbeam will be in rehab for a while Violet takes over the business. One of the first people she meets is Drew, the owner of a bar/male strip club next door. He thinks Moonbeams is nuts and is pretty skeptical about Violet even thoug...more

This romantic comedy has a delightful romance but is too light on the funny.
When Violet McGinn's mother needs surgery, Violet flies across the country to help her out and is roped into temporarily taking over her mother's business.
Violet's mother is a psychic.
Violet is not.
Fortunately, her mother's clients seem to broadcast their fears and insecurities, and she can usually figure out how to use pop-psychology to help them out. Unfortunately, some o...more

What do you believe in? In Tawna Fenske's quirky novel Believe it or Not, the serious, down-to-earth accountant Violet, and the unconventional bar owner Drew, come to realize the answer is not as simple as it seems.
This is a fun book with underlying humor coloring the adventures of two mismatched characters. Violet wants normal and predictable. Drew is not your average guy. Sexy? Yes. Handsome and fun? Yes. Predictable? Far from it. H...more

Oh, I do believe Tawna Fenske is my new favorite humorous romance author. I giggled most of the way through this book, which I absolutely love in a romance.
This is definitely a story of opposites attract. Violet's a seriously buttoned-up chickadee, an accountant who knows her numbers and her (many times useless) trivia. Drew's a total playboy, running a bar that features male strippers (woot!) and heading home with a new bed bunny practically every night. They're definitely nothing alike but th...more

Violet McGinn has moved away to the other side of the country and become an accountant, to be far away from what her psychic mother is. Unfortunately, when her mother falls and has to have surgery, Violet must take over her business. Drew Watson, the owner of the bar, which is a neighbor to Violet's mother's shop, makes his scepticism of psychics known. These two are attracted to each other, but fight it.

At First Sight: Accountant Violet never wanted anything to do with her mother Moonbeam's psychic business. But when Moonbeam suffers a fall, and only agrees to have surgery when Violet promises to look after the business and keep Moonbeam's appointments, Violet is stuck playing the psychic and listening to 80's glam rock, courtesy of the bar next door and it's owner Drew.

This book manages to be an entire romantic comedy starring John Cusack, with a ton of music references, a touch of magical realism, and a heavy dose of swoon thrown in for good measure.
I first discovered Tawna on Twitter because she shares an agent with Kiersten White (PARANORMALCY), and then I found her daily blog. I knew that if Tawna was half as funny and charming in her books as she is on Don't Pet Me, I'm Writing--where she routinely makes me snort completely unladylike and spit drink onto...more

I’ve been looking forward to Tawna Fenske’s second book since I read her debut, Making Waves, a number of months ago. She sold me on that book and any future works with her humor and her lovable and quirky characters. Is the sequel as good as the original, so to speak?
Almost, but not quite. Even after all these months I still remember Alex and Juli from Making Waves, their unique and hilarious first meeting, their high sea adventures, their steamy love scenes, and the unusual use of that black t...more

I have mixed feelings about this book, ‘Believe It or Not’ by Tawna Fenske. The story is unique and one of a kind, fun to read, sexy and all that, but I find it rather hard to follow in the beginning. There are too many characters involved and the story was rather slow for me. I couldn’t really feel the chemistry between the hero and the heroin, and I couldn’t really make a connection of one character...more

Violet McGinn has a...complicated relationship with her mother, a self-proclaimed psychic who calls herself Moonbeam and gives psychic readings out of her shop in Portland, Oregon. And yes, that's a large reason why Violet is an accountant. In Portland, Maine. About as far away as she could get from her loopy mother in both career and location. Violet doesn't believe in psychics. She believes in statistics. She believes in facts. She believes in all things normal.

I believe in Tawna Fenske’s BELIEVE IT OR NOT.
When Violet McGinn’s psychic mother lands in the hospital, Violet must take over her business, but all she would rather do is her safe job in accounting. Psychic abilities or not, Violet didn’t count on her mother’s shop’s neighbor, Drew Watson, and she to have such a connection from their first meeting. As a bar owner, Drew plays the right song at the right time for Violet to make her psychic predictions. Violet must find a way to embrace the crazin...more

Believe it or Not was just okay. I actually purchased Fenske's first book, Making Waves, based solely on her participation on one of my favorite blogs, The Debutante Ball. But,I will say that I have not read it yet. So when I had the opportunity to read an ARC of her second book, I jumped at the chance. Believe it or Not is a fast read, but the characters did not really strike a chord with me. At all. The "F" word is used liberally, which doesn't bother me...more

After enjoying Ms. Fenske's Making Waves, I was happy to see she had another romantic comedy coming out. This time our heroine is a serious accountant with possible psychic abilities and the hero owns a strip club bar featuring male strippers two nights a week. You would think they wouldn't have anything in common but Ms. Fenske brings these two together and shows us how much they really do.

Cute, just like Fenske's last book. It took a while to get into the quirks of the book, as Fenkse creates some marginally unbelievable characters, and the dialogue was a little cheesy in the beginning, but as the book progressed, I got more into it.
I will say that I found the romance a little unconvincing, given that (view spoiler)...more

A review for The Romance Reviews.
Tawna Fenske has a hit on her hands with her latest book, BELIEVE IT OR NOT. There wasn't anything I didn't love about this quirky, humorous and very unique novel, and I recommend it to all contemporary romance fans.

Tawna Fenske is a new to me author. I won this book in a sweepstakes and I am glad I did.
As a Mother who often embarrassed her offspring I can entirely relate to this story. Violet reacted to being raised by her mother (aka Moonbeam the psychic) by leaving Portland, OR and moving to Portland, ME and becoming an accountant. More than anything she wants to be normal. When Moonbeam has an accident Violet has to come home and help out. While taking care of Mom’s business she encounters Drew the own...more

I love Tawna Fenske. It's true, I do. MAKING WAVES was great and I'm so excited that BELIEVE IT OR NOT was just as good--if not better! Once again there's some humor, some love, some frustration, and A WHOLE LOTTA FUN. The best thing about this book...the character's names. Especially Violet's mom and all her friends. I mean Moonbeam?!?! How could you not love that. I will admit in the beginning it was a little hard to get used to, but then when I read about all of them I understood why they had...more
I really enjoyed this book. I loved Drew & Violet's chemistry.
I was laughing & smiling like a goof throughout the book.
I would definitely recommend this book to friends. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the ending. Straight laced accountant Violet McGinn is at odds with who she really is, and when Violet’s psychic mother Moonbeam lands in the hospital it is us to Violet to take over running the family business. Yet, Drew seems to play the right songs at the right time that tend to get Violet...more

At first, I had such a difficult time getting into the book. I literally picked it up 15 times, willing myself to get through the first chapter or two. I was so darn confused with all the weird-o psychic stuff in the beginning I lost interest-quickly. HOWEVER, getting past all that nonsense in the first chapter or so, is an amazing believable story. The cover photo made me believe it was a Montana-Cowboy thing, a little misleading, since it was more like bar owner, doctor and psychic. Quick, one...more

This was a book with fun, quirky characters with completely different professions, and some laugh out loud moments.
I loved how Drew was so comfortable with who he was and what he did for a living. Violet was also comfortable with who she was, but the her willingness to be a fake and dishonest psychic was a big turn off.
The connection between the psychic readings and the music was a bit too far fetched for me.
