A refreshing and concise anthology--I enjoy "variety" in both life and literature, and I enjoy anthologies such as this one because of the diversity offered.
I'm familiar with the work of some of the writers featured in this anthology. It's so nice to see versatility and a love for writing (and respect for the craft) being given the priority over homogeneity (which is what the mainstream commercial traditional publishing industry encourages, fosters, and promotes, in the name of reaping profit$ f...more

The Bestseller Bound gang has done it again! This short story anthology, ably curated by Darcia Helle, brings together ten very different tales -- each of them a hit.
As with any similar work, each reader will have different favorites. For me, the standouts were Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick's "Last Chance Motel and Mausoleum" (a clever paranormal tale) and Tom Gahan's "Beyond the Green Hills" (about politics and famine in early 20th century Ireland).

Ten short stories - various genres.
Of note:
I DIDN'T KNOW HIS NAME by Darcia Helle 4 Stars.
I was profoundly moved by this story as the gravedigger revealed his inner thought as he prepared a grave. Then, BAM, complete turnabout.
SOUL WINDOWS by Jaleta Clegg 3 Stars.
If it's true that the eyes are windows of the soul do you really want to look into them?
RED ROUTE by James Everington 3 Stars.
Traveling a highway that has a lot of fatalities.

I write because the characters trespassing through my mind leave me no alternative.
Words are my addiction. I love to read; fiction, nonfiction, cereal boxes, ingredient labels. If it has words, I'll read it.
I am originally from Massachusetts and now live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I'm married, with 2 sons, a beautiful new granddaughter, and 5 very spoiled animals.
