Ruotsin ja Suomen omapäisin hallitsija

Kuningatar Kristiinan elämäkerrassa historioitsija Peter Englund johdattaa lukijansa 1600-luvun valtakamppailuun ja tieteen kukoistukseen. Maailmaan, jossa oli onnettomuus syntyä naiseksi mutta jonka kuningatar Kristiina onnistui haastamaan pelkällä olemassaolollaan.

Kristiinan kuva on piirtynyt vahvasti kahden ominaisuuden varaan. Hän

Kuningatar Kristiinan elämäkerta on Peter Englundin toteuttamana varsin kiehtova.

Quick read on Queen Christina but I would've preferred a bit more from the book.

The book gives nice picture of Christina's personality, political ambitions and her passion for knowledge and arts but lacks in some areas.
It's not written in chronological order and the chosen "order" makes it unnecessarily fragmented. It also doesn't tell much about Christina's time on throne, which I would've wanted to know more of, but concentrates on her life after the abdication.

I see it's clearly meant as an

Korostetun aseman saavat hänen monenlaiset pyrkimyksensä hankkia v ...more

First couple of pages I couldn't dive into a story and I was confused and a little bored, too. But then - when Englund really started to write about Kristina - I started to enjoy it and it really caught me. It was written really interesting way and he didn't just describe what happened and when, but he really well put together happenings that belong together even though they happened in totally different parts of Kristina's life. I also enjoyed his non-heroic, but heroic desription of Kristina a ...more

Kokona

Queen Christina of Sweden was once briefly mentioned in a history class, and she became interesting to me. When I found the book, I honestly got captivated. The book really showed many, many sides of queen Christina and gave a diverse, unique picture of her. Her thoughts and letters added authencity to the reading experience.

In this mini biography Englund tells about the many transformations and many roles in the life of Kristina. The book is written in short chapters that offer great insight about the life of an interesting person.

A pleasant, conversational overview of Queen Christina's life. Somewhat difficult to follow chronologically at times, which makes for a break in the reading (an example being her experiences with theater and music late in the book which brings us back to life before abdication, which is then immediately followed by her final years) but as a whole it's a pleasant read that makes me question the woman and the character Christina. It is a short biography but even so it does allow some space for dis ...more

It was a bit dry and it went little too far from the topic.
