This book deserves 3.5 stars, and for the purposes of Goodreads, I’ll round down my overall rating to 3 stars, since it’s hard for me to say I really liked this book. Sure, it was an entertainingly light, quick read, that didn’t require extensive amounts of brain power. I enjoyed Savannah and Dirk, and the rest of the clan, and it certainly had comic appeal with two wedding misfires, a rambunctious bunch of extended family, and many of the cities in Georgia were represented via character names....more

There are several other novels to this series; however, this is my first read by GA McKevett and what a read it was! I loved it from the first page to the last! Alas, I’m off to the library to start reading from the beginning!

Savannah, a plus-sized P.I., and Dirk have attempted to get married twice, with flops before both weddings were to start (fire at one and mudslide at second). Alas, it’s her third attempt (however, “third times the charm” doesn’t bode well in this novel) for the happy coup...more

In the preceding book 'A Decadent Way to Die', the ending was both sad and shocking. Buried in Buttercream picks up three months later into a moment where things are better but disaster seems to following Savannah Reid, PI extraordinaire and her long time best friend who finally tying the knot.

One wedding results in the venue being burned down and the second ends with a murder, leaving Savannah, sadly unwed, forced to put up with her spoiled siblings and their bratty kids in her tiny house much...more

Buried in Buttercream A Savannah Reid Mystery by G.A. McKevett
Something about the title made me want to read this book.
From the first page it's action packed and a mystery all in one. She won't just stand there
and let things happen. She is a policewoman and on her wedding day, just an hour before it
was to happen the community hall where it was to take place burns and with all her wedding
apparel and that of the bridesmaids. She looks at the crowd and figures out who it is and goes
after them. She...more

Ms McKevett has done it again. Another awesome episode in the life of Savannah Reid!

After two failed attempts to marry her long-time partner (and recently realised love), Dirk Coulter, everyone hoped the third time would be the charm, but before Savannah can walk down the aisle, she finds her wedding planner, floating dead in a pool at the country club. Finding the killer becomes the focus of Savannah and Dirk, but the biggest problem comes when the wedding planner is found to have more enemies...more

“To Have and To Hold…In Custody??”

Everything seemed in perfect order for the long-awaited wedding of Savannah Reid and Dirk Coulter until an arsonist torched their plans and their venue; the local community center, along with Savannah’s gown and the special touches that were worked on so lovingly for their reception.. All went up in a puff of smoke and left them with a sad reminder in ashes. Watching their dreams go up in flames was not what they had planned for their wedding night. Neither was...more

This was only the second time I had read a book from this series and it was years ago. The first thing very evident, to me, was I truly need to read the rest of the series and then re-read "Buried in Buttercream." Although the book is a murder mystery, there is so much reflecting back to when Savannah (main character) was shot from an earlier novel, that it was unsettling to me.

Savannah and her fiance, a policeman, Dirk Coulter are getting married, that is until there is a fire, a mudslide, and...more

this was the newest of teh savannah books. she finally marries her cop friend after all these years. but it took 3 or 4 tries, due to a fire in teh hall and a murder in the hotel. i dont know why they had to wait, why would they have to solve the murder before getting married? they should have saved all the money and hassle and gotten married on the beach to begin with

I really enjoyed this although got a bit sick of the Reid family bickering. I'm also very glad I had read previous reviews which said they wished they'd read the previous book due to all the references to it. They were right and I was very glad to have read it just before this. I can't believe all the calamadies that befell Savannah and Dirk as they kept trying to get married. I loved Gran's "lecture" to Savannah on forgiveness I as was beginning to tired of her wallowing in what had happened. O...more

PI Savannah Reid is ready to marry policeman Dirk Coulter, but their first attempt ends when an arsonist torches the venue. Then there's the mudslide. Then, just as Savannah is ready to walk down the aisle, she discovers a body. The murderer has really irritated Savannah, and she and Dirk go after him. Hey, it's a way to get out of Savannah's small house, which is filled with her large Georgia family, come to California to attend the wedding. Savannah is also dealing with issues left over from t...more

All Dirk and Savannah wanted to do was get married, but multiple interruptions interfered with their wedded bliss. Capturing an arsonist would prove to be easy but finding the person who murdered their wedding planner took us on an outing of pure delight.

The adventures, the laughter, the worries, the camaraderie and the search for a killer kept me guessing in this exciting and amusing whodunit. A great cast including the eccentric and quirky Reid family and witty and at times hilarious dialogue...more

Plus sized PI Savannah and her Detective BF have been thwarted three times trying to get married. With her large family staying with Savannah, the tight quarters and all the bickering are a nuisance to her and Dirk while they try to solve the murder of their wedding planner. Lots of romance, typical family squables, and sleuthing are a good mix for this mystery. She mentions her injuries received before the nupitals were planned, so I plan to find a previous book ot fill in the questions about t...more

This is the second food/mystery book I've read. I'm not really impressed. I guess I think, if they put food on the cover, maybe they'll include recipes or something? Or at least be interesting? Okay, to be totally honest, I didn't have great expectations for this book. I grabbed it because I knew I was going to need a piece of fluff to read after the one I read before it. Despite the fact that this was a murder mystery, it was, indeed, fluff. I didn't hate it. It's just that I was only mildly en...more

I really enjoyed this book. There was humor (a pretty good dose), love, laughter, bickering, and suspense. I would read this book again. I liked the characters (all of them) and bet I'll enjoy the other books in this series. This is the first I've read and I'm now going to start at the beginning. I liked the 'southern hospitality' too. I kinda wish I had the meshing love/hate family relationship that was portrayed in this book. I liked the investigating and the twist at the end. Poor Suz and Dir...more

AAn enjoyable book. Savannah Reid and Dick Coulter have made it to the altar at least twice when disaster struck, preventing the nuptial from actually taking place. In the meantime, Savannah's small home (with 1-1.2 baths) is bursting with 15 family house guests who have come to see Savannah and Dick get married. They are loud, messy and seem to have bladders the size of thimbles and Savannah loves everyone of them. However, this leaves absolutely no quiet time for Savannah and Dick. On top of t...more

I used to really like this series. Now, all the southern trashy talking cliches are overwhelming...there must be a book somewhere with quaint southern-inspired saying, and I believe the author used everyone, and possibly made up some of her own. AND, the family,...just how long would one person put up with the inconsiderate users in this family, except for 4 members, and NOT blow their top??? The story could have been good except for the over use of the cliches and the rotten family members.

This is a cozy sort of murder mystery, the 14th in the series. It has its own trademark jokes and established relationships of the cast and supporting characters. This book does not do much to fill out the people and if I didn't already know them I would be lost on much of the interaction. I have more trouble reading these regular mysteries these days; they are not all that well plotted or intriguing. I find myself skimming them sometimes. I mostly read this one. The main character is getting ma...more

I must have missed a couple because the last one I remember reading Savannah and Dirk were not a couple. I have to admit as much as I like this series Savannah's family really got on my nerves in this one. They aren't usually as much of a presence in the books. If that was my family I would have thrown them all out already, love them or not. They were annoying. I'm looking forward to seeing where the next one goes now that they are married. I hope it doesn't ruin the series.

I'm new to this series, and agree with a lot of the other reviews that it would be better to have read earlier books in the series first. I do love a good cozy mystery, and this series probably will keep me entertained when I read the earlier ones. However, I am finding it difficult to suspend my disbelief that a police detective would actively investigate with a PI, even if she was his former partner... Or that his department would allow him to do so.

This book was okay. I really had to fight myself to finish it, because about a quarter of the way in, I was just really sick of Savannah's cliche Southern speak. Obviously, people love this series as this book seems to have 4 stars, but once again, I disagree with the majority. It was okay, could have been more involved of a plot, and could have been less cliche. Maybe I should have started at book #1 though!

This took forever to get going. Once it dose it is enjoyable but then we just can't find to seem the killer and the story just drags and drags. I mean 4 wedding attempts were a bit much. However, I loath Van's family! They made me want to stop reading this book the way they acted. Not enjoyable at all. Her grandmother and brother were the only redeeming members. Overall a good read an I wait with anticipation for the next book!

I have read several of the earlier books in this series and enjoyed them. This was no exception. Savannah is such an engaging character, and the scenes with her family are priceless. Nice to see a mystery series that remains strong even as the number of entries piles up. Looking forward to the next installment.

When a wedding planner is murdered, Savannah and Dirk must put their lives on hold to solve the crime. And, this time, Savannah's entire family is along for the ride. I thought this was a well-planned plot. Must say, I didn't figure it out until near the end. Without giving anything away, I'm still in a state of adjustment to recent changes in Savannah's life. Oh, and I LOVE the title!

This was book seventeen in the Savannah Reid series, and I thought it was a good read. The story is set three months after the previous book, and Savannah is still trying to pick up the pieces after the events that changed her life in that story. I would strongly suggest that if you haven't read the previous book in the series, A Decadent Way to Die, read it before starting this one. The mystery in this book seemed to be secondary to Savannah's recovery, but it was still an entertaining read, an...more

This is the first book I have read in this series and I won't be reading any of the others. It was just ok - nothing stands out and had very little suspense for a mystery. The main characters are forgettable and I wanted to smack the main character's family members throughout the whole book.

Fire, mudslide, murder all keep Savannah and Dirk from getting married (don't worry, things get better). I did not see the solution of the murder coming. Not because it was an "out of nowhere" solution but because Ms. McKevett kept several suspects as possibilities right up until the end.
