Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

A very enjoyable book featuring African-American amateur sleuths Mama (Candi Covington) and her daughter Simone, a paralegal. In this series entry, Candi is willed land by her neighbor -- a reclusive woman she didn't really know. Then it turns out that the neighbor was murdered, and the plot begins to thicken. Southern small-town atmosphere, luscious descriptions of Mama's cooking, and the Covington family's loving spirit made this a very nice cozy read with a plot centering on family history.
Murder mystery with Candi Covington set in a small South Carolina town. The narrator is Simone who is Candi's daughter making Candi the "Mama" of the story. Candi finds herself involved in people dying over a piece of property and works to fine out who is responsible. The story is a little slow moving and a lot of Simone's focus for the first half or so is on her boy friend who she wants to spend more time with, but is unable to.
Good book, I think I have read at least 1 other in this series about an African-American woman in a small town in the past. I wish I could have some of the recipes for the food they talk about - pumpkin pecan pound cake, doesn't that sound good?
