With his trademark Rock 'N Roll hair and snakeskin spandex pants, plus a hot rod and a Harley, Lüc Carl fit the part as a bar manager based in New York City's gritty Lower East Side. And life was good for this Omaha, Nebraska, transplant—a talented drummer who originally moved to the big city to pursue his Rock 'N Roll dreams—until, suddenly, it wasn't. I wrote this book. It's the greatest book in the world. This book will change your life. Thank you for looking, I love you.

The book was a First Read contest win.

I read this book but I do not know why. The book was more about the vanity of man who is out of his prime. I have never read a book that is so vulgar. To write God in one sentence and then turn around and put goddamn in the next sentence makes this a hard read. Not to mention all of the cuss words.

To actually talk about using the pages from the bible to roll there weed with is something I do not understand. I also do not understand why the aut

I won this book through a Goodreads giveaway (thanks, Goodreads!) and I loved it! It reads almost like a conversation with the author - who writes much like he talks, I imagine. I laughed out loud throughout, and though I wasn't expecting much in the way of weight loss tips, there is definitely some good, practical advice here, mainly to figure out what works for you, and you'll be successful. I enjoyed reading about his journey in becoming the person he wanted to be. I'm hoping there are more b ...more

I received an ARC of this book through a GoodReads give-away, and was excited to jump right in when it arrived in my mailbox two days ago. It sounds kind of insane to say I was stoked to read a memoir that also doubles as a self-help/diet book, but one look at the cover and you'll see this isn't your average memoir.

Lüc Carl isn't your average bartender. Sure, he loves metal and partying, but after years of pouring drinks and living the nocturnal lifestyle of the party animal, he finds himself 40

This book isn't a typical memoir - it isn't a typical weight-loss how-to, either. Somehow Carl manages to combine the two into a funny, practical read on how he managed to lose weight & keep it off.

I appreciate that Carl doesn't try to tell the reader how to lose weight. Instead, he describes how he was able to do it, why he decided it was time, and his experiences with other weight loss books & methods.

Expect a rock 'n roll vocabulary to match the attitude. Fun with practical tips.

As a Luc fan, I can't wait to read the book. I pre-ordered it a while ago and I know it is worth waiting for. For all of you people who have no clue who Luc is, if you have twitter I recommend you follow him. He's as funny as he is sexy. Also, go and buy Tales from the Drunk Diet on kindle. You can buy it on your iPhone or any Apple product. I am so excited to read all his funny shit. Luc, I'm proud to be a fan of yours!!

"Never judge a book by its cover"
Yes, its true. I judged the book and I thought to myself "Oh gawd, this seems like the worst book on earth!" but i started reading the first few pages and its quite funny with a few tips on what not to do.

I haven't finished the book but I enjoyed the first few pages. I might pass it along to a few friends that might be intersted in this book but they better return it, cause I might need it for future reference.

Good book so far

The title of this book caught my attention and after reading the description I decided to enter the first reads giveaway and to my surprise I was a winner! This is not your ordinary book, it was refreshingly honest and an interesting outlook. Not for those easily offended by language however the author did a great job of keeping the information simple.

Aggh. Awful. Luc Decided to name his book The Drunk Diet but then actually dramatically cut back on how much he drinks! Not only did he cut back on how often he drinks but he basically only drinks liquor with soda water now. I don't care, I wasn't actually attempting to find out how to lose weight while being an alcoholic. I just thought it was an interesting concept. Too bad the concept was false!

Then we move onto Luc who uses his distaste of everyone except rockers to fill up the pages of this

I received the Drunk Diet How I lost 40 Pounds... Wasted by Luc Carl through Goodreads first-reads giveaway. First off the title for this book is amazing though slightly misleading. I'm not going to lie I was totally expecting a book about a guy who was pretty much on a diet of just alcohol and going out drunk to work out. I was totally expecting a book that was just filled with complete and utter ridiculousness. This book however is definitely not about that. Its a about a guys transformation f ...more

I've only read a free preview of the book so far on my iPad and so far I really liked it. I'm a fiction writing major in college so writing nonfiction, particularly memoirs, is not something I know too much about but I read enough to know that this book kept my interest much, much more than other memoirs I read. Lüc's writing style reads both like internal dialogue and like a story he is telling only you. It's witty and very motivating for those who want to lose weight. In fact, in one chapter i ...more

It's a no-nonsense guide to getting in shape and losing a few pounds.

I won this in the Giveaway contest from - and I am very glad I did.

Luc is a very straight to the point guy and he points out that it's not necessary to go for the fad diets and it's better to do things based on your own experience and what works for you. He seems to understand that everyone has different bodies and different goals in mind when it comes to health and fitness and it's a refreshing view on how to get

LOVED it!!! Luc Carl is so funny and so honest. My favorite thing about this book was that it was so real, and that was refreshing. That, and some of his stories made me laugh so hard I was crying. Whether you're 200 pounds over weight, or like me, just eat way too much damn junk food for your own good, this book is so helpful. It was really inspiring and I'm thankful Carl was able to be vulnerable and share his insecurities and ultimately his triumphs.

I won this book through the first reads giveaways. I was a little irritated by the method of shipment (it required a signature - really? For a book?). Anyway, this is a autobiographical tale by Luc Carl, one metal-loving bartender. He got sick of being fat and decided to "get sexy" (his words). Overall it isn't a bad read, but I am not sure what audience it is targeting. Most people are looking for clear guidelines on what to eat and what exercises to do, when, not a meandering tale of one man's ...more

The Drunk Diet: How I Lost 40 Pounds...Wasted: A Memoir by Lüc Carl was a fun book to read. It's more than just a memoir. It's like having your friend kick you in the butt to start eating right and exercising.

Lüc starts out as a Nebraskan rock 'n roller, who goes to New York City to fulfill his dream of becoming a rock star drummer. He eventually ends up as a hard partying, bar manager/bar tender. Along the way, he gains weight; weight from unhealthy eating habits and booze. One day, he decides

I just got my ass handed to me by this book. Not only do I want to go out and run my heart out, I want to start eating healthier foods and take care of my body more. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

Don't let the title and cover fool you. The book doesn't talk about how to lose weight by getting drunk every night. That would just be nutso. Instead, author Lüc Carl takes his readers on an eye opening, in your face, crazy adventure of life lessons and kicking ass while being absolutely laugh out loud hilarious.

I won this book through the first reads giveaways here on goodreads. The Drunk Diet is a non-fiction work by the self-described party-aholic Luc Carl, who works as a bartender in NYC and loves his rock n' roll. In this book he shares his personal experiences on a quest to go from flabby to "sexy".

Luc Carl is by no means a professional nutritionist or fitness expert. He picked up all of his tips from trial & error, talking with others at the gym, and reading random fitness/diet books & ma

I was not the intended audience of this book, as I am not a rock-n-roll dude trying to lose weight. However, I did appreciate this book for what it is.

It's a how to lose weight book full of cursing. I love that! Luc Carl is constantly telling his readers not to be a pussy and tossing F-bombs left and right. Luc Carl also gives his readers a lot of encouragement, letting them know if he can lose 40 pounds and get real sexy, they can too.

My favorite part of the book are the boxes that answer quest

I think I'd love to read it SOON! I am not so savvy with all of the technology these days, reading books on a small device you can take anywhere seems very appealing, still I do not own one. That being said, I am an avid reader of Luc Carl's blog on Twitter and I know that he is not only a blogger, runner, author, badass, he also is committed to participating in the fight against AIDS. He runs for charity. He blogs to motivate, to let anyone who is looking, that there is a way to get healthy wit ...more

One of the most entertaining health and exercise books I've ever read. Proves that starting with small steps you can accomplish a lot. And if you eliminate most of your vices keeping you down, ( while adding plenty of vegetables and exercise) you can keep your favorite vice and still have your preferred drink every now and again.

I have to say that the book was not what I expected. I had thought it was going to be a humorous type of diet journey book throughout. I almost put it down after reading the first chapters because it was so sad and reminded me of several people I know. This book would be a great inspiration for the same folks to grow up, get healthy and anyone can do it with the right mindset and perseverance. I actually found some of the comments very inspiring which is surprising as I am a 40 something mother of three and this guys seems to be a bit of a metalhead party person. Some of his comments made me laugh out loud although I have to admit the repeated references to his bowel movements in the beginning of the book could easily put people off. I gotta say, I was really surprised with how well Luc put this book together. He does great as a DJ and he is entertaining as f*ck, but at the end of the day, diet books aren't as entertaining to read. I always found myself getting distracted and not really paying attention. But the way that Luc put evrything together made me want to continue reading.
